In this paper we present well know Port Choice Problem as a mixedintegerlinear Programing (MILP) problem. Using MILP we comapare North Adriatic ports with North European ports and determine their relative attractiveness for Bavarian shippers in case of importing containerized goods from far east. The results of the model show that despite better geographical position of North Adriatic ports Bavarian shippers are attracted to Nort European ports. The model also shows that land transport costs and subjective preferance rate play a large role in Port Choice.

The medical waste management is of great importance due to its potential environmental hazards and public health risks. Manufacturers have to collect the medical waste and control its recovery or disposal. Medical waste recovery, which encompasses reuse, remanufacturing and materials recycling, requires a specially structured reverse logistic network in order to collect medical waste efficiently. This paper has attempted to apply the basic theories of reverse logistics to improve the effect of medical waste management. We presents a mixed integer linear programming model of reverse logistics networks for returned medical waste. The efficiency and practicability of the proposed model is validated by an application to an illustrative example dealing with medical waste returned from some hospitals to a given medical materials producer.

This paper extends our previous work in I and [2] on optimal scheduling of autonomous vehicle arrivals at intersections, from one to a grid of intersections. A scalable distributed mixedintegerlinear Program (MILP) is devised that solves the scheduling problem for a grid of intersections. A computational control node is allocated to each intersection and regularly receives position and velocity information from subscribed vehicles. Each node assigns an intersection access time to every subscribed vehicle by solving a local MILP. Neighboring intersections will coordinate with each other in real-time by sharing their solutions for vehicles' access times with each other. Our proposed approach is applied to a grid of intersections and its positive impact on traffic flow and vehicles' fuel economy is demonstrated in comparison to conventional intersection control scenarios.

The paper presents a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model for the solution of the three-phase volt/var optimization (VVO) of medium voltage unbalanced distribution feeders. The VVO of a distribution feeder is aimed at calculating the most efficient operating conditions by means of the scheduling of transformers equipped with an on-load tap changer and distributed reactive power resources (such as embedded generators and switchable capacitors banks). The proposed model allows the representation of feeders composed by three-phase, two-phase, and single-phase lines, by transformers with different winding connections, by unbalanced wye- and delta-connected loads, by three-phase and single phase capacitor banks and embedded generators. This paper presents a practical mixed integer linear programming (MILP) based approach for unit commitment (UC) which is suitable for both traditional and deregulated environments. In general, the UC problem is complicated large-scale, combinatorial, and non-convex in nature, it is very difficult to solve by conventional approaches to achieve both solution accuracy and efficiency. With the recent development of solution techniques, there is a trend to tackle the UC problem by using MILP approaches. In this paper the authors propose a detailed procedure to formulate the UC problem in MILP manners. The problems are then solved via a state-of-the-art optimization package. The usefulness of the proposed solution technique is illustrated by testing the problem with actual system data. The solution obtained not only gives the unit on/off states and MW schedules, but also provides marginal price information associated with system constraints such as load demand requirement to assist strategic bidding in the power market.

the problem studied in this paper is to allocate and to sequence the elective operation on operating rooms (ORs). We develop a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model to solve this problem. Decisions in this model include the allocation of operations to material resources and human resources, the starting time of them and the starting time for each surgeon. To show the efficiency of this model, we decide to compare it with a constraints programming (CP) approach. The performance of these models is tested using a benchmark of the literature. The results indicate the efficiency of the MILP model compared with the CP model in terms of computational time.

In this paper, two categories have been considered: optimizing economic issues in long-term planning of regional airline network structure;and the importance of changes in demand in different months of the year in airline network design. A mixed integer linear programming model has been provided in this study which, compared to previous models, considers issues such as capacity constraints and network planning issues. Moreover, the most important initiative of this article is entering two parameters: cost (non-profit) due to losing customers and expenditures of the unused capacity. These two parameters will help the model identify the best supply in each path. Various demand functions have been used in solving the model. Based on conducted analyses, using the expected value of monthly demand in comparison with high and low demand and seasonal changes in the network is optimized. The results of study also show that in times of high demand, the airline tends to aggregate passengers and increase density in hub paths.

In this paper, we design and evaluate the feasibility of a system which minimizes residential electricity cost of individual homes by shifting demand over a daily forecast price cycle. Ideally, our system will accept use-time preferences from consumers and optimize their appliances' operation around those given patterns. However, using the system to recommend optimum use-times to consumers is also possible by accepting ideal use preferences from an external load manager and computing the cost savings of these preferences relative to the cost of the consumer's current use patterns. We implement the optimization problem in two stages by using mixed integer linear programming (MILP). In the first stage, we obtain the optimum scheduling for appliances to be connected to the outlet;the output of this stage only shows the hours that we can use the appliance and does not reflect the actual consumption hours of each appliance. In the second stage, we model the random behavior of users via Monte Carlo simulation by running the appliances within the times they receive power, specified in the first stage. Finally, we evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed model in terms of cost savings by considering three appliances and four pricing schemes.

China has become the world second largest energy consumer, and IEA predicted that its primary energy demand will double from 2025 to 2030. Offshore wind power construction is difficult and carries high risk. It is extremely difficult to control the cost, of which the construction period is the biggest variable. As to meet the requirements of cost reduction and efficiency increase in the coming era of flat rate, the construction procedures, primary vessels, and equipment need to be properly planned prior to the project startup. For this purpose, an algorithm based on mixed integer linear programming (MILP) for accurately calculating weather window and construction efficiency of offshore wind power was firstly proposed in this study, which comprehensively takes the complex construction procedures, duration of each link and environmental restrictions into account. Focusing on the offshore seas of Fujian province, utilizing the 1-hour hindcast wind and wave data respectively from the validated reanalysis wind field and SWAN model with a time span of 25 years (1996-2020), the weather window and construction efficiency for monopile foundation construction and offshore wind turbine installation were evaluated both on spatial and temporal scope. This study proposes a new mission planning method to perform routing with multiple quadrotors. Unlike conventional routing missions, this study considers the specialized routing mission for quadrotors where there is a visit priority between nodes, and there is a task to be performed at the node. One of our contributions is that a multi-layered hierarchical architecture is designed for mission planning itself at the top level, and for interworking with path planning and flight control required at the lower levels. In mission planning, to determine the optimal pair between agents and visiting nodes and the optimal order of nodes, the optimization problem is designed and solved based on mixed-integerlinearprogramming. Furthermore, we evaluate our method by performing MATLAB and Gazebo co-simulation in a ROS environment.
