For the purpose of preoperative planning, this paper proposed a modeling algorithm for automatically creating the dynamic model of the generalized body cavity. The algorithm includes two phases. One is the static phase in which the initial cavity model is created from the cross sections;the other is the dynamic phase for modeling the dynamic cavity. In the static phase, the parallel cross sections are generated through slicing the organs enclosing the cavity;then construct the LBCs, and generate the uniform grids;and then create the hexahedron voxels according to the uniform grids;at last, post-processing is used to get the final cavity model represented by triangular meshes. In the dynamic phase, the cavity models at different moments are gained by applying the anchor connection method. We took the human articular cavity as an example to verify the proposed algorithm, and the experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm is effective.

A new boundary element algorithm for modeling and simulation of nonlinear thermal stresses in micropolar FGA composites with temperature-dependent properties

The main aim of this article is to develop a new boundary element method (BEM) algorithm to model and simulate the nonlinear thermal stresses problems in micropolar functionally graded anisotropic (FGA) composites with temperature-dependent properties. Some inside points are chosen to treat the nonlinear terms and domain integrals. An integral formulation which is based on the use of Kirchhoff transformation is firstly used to simplify the transient heat conduction governing equation. Then, the residual nonlinear terms are carried out within the current formulation. The domain integrals can be effectively treated by applying the Cartesian transformation method (CTM). In the proposed BEM technique, the nonlinear temperature is computed on the boundary and some inside domain integral. Then, nonlinear displacement can be calculated at each time step. With the calculated temperature and displacement distributions, we can obtain the values of nonlinear thermal stresses. The efficiency of our proposed methodology has been improved by using the communication-avoiding versions of the Arnoldi (CA-Arnoldi) preconditioner for solving the resulting linear systems arising from the BEM to reduce the iterations number and computation time. The numerical outcomes establish the influence of temperature-dependent properties on the nonlinear temperature distribution, and investigate the effect of the functionally graded parameter on the nonlinear displacements and thermal stresses, through the micropolar FGA composites with temperature-dependent properties. These numerical outcomes also confirm the validity, precision and effectiveness of the proposed modeling and simulation methodology.

When developing modern unmanned aerial vehicle-based onboard small-sized radar systems, which are used for monitoring of coastal zones for their operational and environmental purposes, adequate mathematical models are needed of reflections from the corresponding resolution elements of the underlying surfaces, located on the water-land interface. We consider the development of some mathematical models for such applications. We analyze two modern approaches used in developing mathematical models for input signals reflected both separately from the terrestrial and marine surfaces and simultaneously from two aforementioned surfaces at once. A statistical approach and two families of distributions are chosen for modeling the signals, which enable synthesis of efficient algorithms for modeling the fluxes of random variables. The input signals of sea surface reflections are approximated by the log-normal law, while the reflections from the land surface are approximated by the Weibull distribution. For edge-coastal modeling, it is proposed to use the law of distribution of the vector sum of the flux of random variables comprising the input signals reflected from elementary land and sea areas that simultaneously fall within the corresponding resolution element. A highlight of the models developed is the consideration of both the probability distribution laws of the reflected signals and their correlation-spectral characteristics between resolution elements, as well as the anisotropy of reflections when monitoring surfaces from several angles. The presented mathematical models are consistent with experimental data sets of reflections, obtained from coastal zones. The development of coastal reflection models and corresponding modeling algorithms reduces the required number of actual field tests and saves time for implementation of monitoring systems, and hence, limits the overhead of this implementation. The process of intelligent modeling of subject areas related to solving problems in these areas is investigated and detailed as a component part of actions of an intelligent subject. A subject area model is built as a set of knowledge about individual components of this area. The description of knowledge about each component includes its logical and ontological representations, attributes of this component, and its relations with other elements. It is shown that a suitable mathematical structure can be used to abstractly represent a subject area. A number of such structures and various variants of logics are considered.

Solar power tower systems have been extensively investigated for mega-scale electricity generation, but very little is seen in applications that provide industrial process heat. The use of solar power tower systems for low to medium-temperature industrial process heat (less than 400C) is particularly not well addressed. In this study, an algorithm is developed to model, evaluate, and optimize the performance of a novel relocatable solar power tower system that can provide low to medium-temperature process heat for use in applications such as in oil fracking, district heating, and the mining industry. A 1.3 MWth solar power tower based industrial process heat plant is considered to supply heat at a reference location, in Tucson, Arizona. The study mainly focuses on modeling and optimizing a biomimetic heliostat field of small-size removable heliostats (4 m2) and a 40 m-high steel truss tower, based on an optimized light-weight external receiver that utilizes pressurized hot water as the heat transfer fluid for steam production in a temperature range of 120 - 220C, which is the dominant temperature requirement in process heating. The developed model simultaneously couples and optimizes the heat transfer and optical performance of the receiver and heliostat field at design conditions, while the annual transient thermal and optical losses are evaluated as well. The geometry of the external receiver, the biomimetic heliostat field shape factors, and the tower height were evaluated parametrically and optimized to maximize the energy yield (i.e., highest receiver's efficiency and lowest land use). The approach of modeling and optimization was validated through the analysis of two reference solar thermal power plants with molten salt (i.e., SOLARTWO and GEMASOLAR plants), showing a very satisfactory agreement with the design parameters in the literature. A comparison with a radial staggered heliostat field modeled using SolarPILOT software was also conducted.

Thermal management system for liquid-cooling PEMFC stack: From primary configuration to system control strategy

Of various interacting and coupling factors acting on efficiency and durability of PEM fuel cell (PEMFC), comfort temperature level with good homogeneity maintains a dominant role in stack-level, and even integrated system which confronted with load changes frequently. Featured with low-grade reaction heat generation (60-80 degrees C) and its high proportion (similar to 50%) accounting for entire yield, liquid-cooling PEMFC stack considerably relies on the construction of thermal management scheme to achieve dynamic heat balance. Furthermore, to improve the efficiency and lifetime goals, coordinate operation of thermal management components is highly activated by robust control-oriented strategy with advanced modeling algorithm. Hence, this review focus on thermal management system (TMS) for liquid-cooling PEMFC stack, from the perspectives of primary configuration and system control strategy. Firstly, temperature control configurations with dual-control targets of TMS are introduced, followed by the development status of cooling channel design and novel coolant adoption. Then, thermal management scheme with coupling architecture is analyzed and discussed in order to address the necessity of decoupling the temperature regulation to improve the dynamic response of TMS. Based on the current situation of typical robust non-PID feedback and feedforward control strategy, novel control strategies with emerging modeling algorithms are presented to show the feasibility targets of comfort temperature grade, the robust response against varying loads as well as high efficiency with lower parasitic power. Finally, in conclusion and perspectives, the guideline and outlook of TMS for liquid-cooling PEMFC are provided to highlight its extensive potentials in low-grade heat recovery of large-power and high-efficiency PEMFC-based powertrain or FCEVs. The methodological principles of modeling and intellectualization of logistic interaction in the context of a pandemic and other infrastructural and technological problems in the organization of the transportation process in the «railway station-port» system are investigated. A theoretical-comparative approach to the method of port car traffic distribution based on economic-geographical routing is presented. The mathematical foundations of the method are formed and the practical actualization of the results is analyzed. Further options for the development and finding ways of logistic interaction between transport market entities, both in geometric and logistic and economic terms, taking into account new forms of interaction between transport participants, digitalization and intellectualization of the industry, have been determined.

The paper proposes an algorithm for modeling location signals reflected from the edge of underlying surfaces that differ in the reflection characteristics of location signals. The land-sea edge, the sea-ice cover, the grassy cover-forest, etc. can serve as underlying surfaces. The features of modeling such signals in the analysis of algorithms for determining the outline of the studied edges on a computer using mathematical modeling methods, in particular the shape of the coastal zone, are considered. Simulation algorithms for edge echo signals take into account not only the laws of probability distribution of reflected signals, but also their correlation and spectral characteristics.

Understanding conditions and situations causing sudden braking is important for preventing traffic accidents. Previous studies have used probe vehicle data to detect risky positions where sudden braking frequently occurred. However, they have mainly focused on vehicle-related factors. In this paper, we propose a novel method for discriminating sudden braking. Unlike previous studies, the method exhaustively explores probe data including temporal factors, constructs a large number of features combining pairs of feature names and their values, and applies the Support Vector Machine classifier and Feature Selection method to the features. To conduct the experiments, we used probe data provided by the Aizu-Wakamatsu City Open Data Utilization Verification Project. The proposed method discriminated sudden braking quite accurately, with a discrimination performance averaging an F1 measure of 93.2%. We also found that the probability of the occurrence of sudden braking is not always high at locations where sudden braking frequently occurred, but rather, temporal factors such as date and time, or day of week are strongly related to performance in discriminating sudden braking with high probability.

Simulation algorithms are synthesized for modeling input signals of information processing systems based on empirical data presented as histograms. Simulation algorithms, being statistical equivalents of input signals of technical systems, do not contradict the data of experimental studies, which allows them to be used to determine the characteristics of the designed systems using mathematical modeling methods on a computer for an arbitrary amount of statistical tests.
