Low performance and the high fouling tendency of Polyetherimide (PEI) membranes prevent their widespread commercial utility. In this study, we utilized a deep eutectic solvent (DES) as a versatile agent for surface modification of the PEI membrane using a simple and sustainable method. To attain an efficient PEI membrane, modeling and optimization of the modification condition were conducted via response surface methodology (RSM). The effects of two effective variables, including the choline/guanidine (Ch/Gu) ratio (0.5–2) and modification time (12–48 h), were evaluated on four responses, i.e., pure water flux (PWF), flux recovery ratio (FRR), irreversible fouling ratio (R_ir), and total resistance (R_t). The structural and chemical characteristics and filtration performance of the fabricated membranes were evaluated. The optimum condition was obtained at a 0.8 Ch/Gu ratio and 30 h of modification time to reach the best performance of the DES-PEI membrane. The industrial application of optimally modified DES/PEI membrane was investigated by filtering penicillin and cephalexin antibiotics. The rejection data showed higher performance of the modified membrane (>95 %) compared to the bare membrane (∼63 %). Furthermore, the long-term filtration evaluation in dead-end and cross-flow setups indicated stable flux and rejection of the DES/PEI-modified membrane. The DES, including Ch/Gu, can be viewed as an agent to enhance both PWF and antifouling properties while broadening membrane applications in separating antibiotics for PEI membranes through an eco-friendly and cost-effective method. © 2024 The Authors

In power plants,flue gases can cause severe corrosion damage in metallic parts such as flue ducts,heat exchangers,and *** is an effective technique to prevent this damage.A robust fuzzy model of the surface roughness(Ra and Rz)of flue gas ducts coated by protective composite coating from epoxy and nanoparticles was constructed based on the experimental *** proposed model consists of four nanoparticles(ZnO,ZrO2,SiO2,and NiO)with 2%,4%,6%,and 8%,*** surface methodology(RSM)was used to optimize the process parameters and identify the optimal conditions for minimum surface roughness of this coated *** prove the superiority of the proposed fuzzy model,the model results were compared with those obtained by ANOVA,with the coefficient of determination and the root-mean-square error(RMSE)used as *** Ra,for the first output response,using ANOVA,the coefficient-of-determination values were 0.9137 and 0.4037,respectively,for training and ***,for Rz,the second output response,the coefficient-of-determination results were 0.9695 and 0.4037,respectively,for training and *** the fuzzy modeling of Ra,for the first output response,the RMSE values were 0.0 and 0.1455,respectively,for training and *** values for the coefficient of determination were 1.00 and 0.9807,respectively,for training and *** results prove the superiority of fuzzy *** modeling the second output response Rz,the RMSE values were 0.0 and 0.0421,respectively,for training and testing,and the coefficient-of-determination values were 1.00 and 0.9959,respectively,for training and testing.

Laser cladding is an environmentally friendly and reliable surface modification technology. The quality characteristics of the coating are directly affected by the process parameters of laser cladding. The reasonable selection of process parameters is essential to obtain high-quality coating. In this study, the single-track 15-5PH alloy coating was fabricated on the surface of 12Cr13 stainless steel. In view of the hybrid Genetic Algorithm and Ant Colony optimization (GA-ACO) can effectively improve the prediction ability and robustness of Random Forest Regression (RFR), a prediction method of cladding layer quality characteristics based on GA-ACO-RFR was proposed. The fast non-dominated ranking genetic algorithm with elite strategy by introducing the Gaussian distribution crossover operator (GNSGA-II) was used to optimize the process parameters of laser cladding. The results showed that the multi-objective optimization method of laser cladding process parameters proposed in this paper can obtain high-quality laser cladding coating. This work demonstrated the potential of the proposed method in laser cladding process prediction and optimization.

The economic benefit of microgrid is the key factor to realize environment-friendly power supply. With the wide application of new energy power generation, schol-ars have carried out a lot of research on microgrid models, but the existing mod-els cannot reflect the important role of renewable energy in microgrid operation. Therefore, the author proposes a power generation and storage model based on renewable heat energy and microgrid. In order to minimize the cost and meet the requirements of CO2 emission limitation, the cost of power generation, storage and production in the microgrid is analyzed in detail. At the same time, the optimization method of renewable energy microgrid system operation is also studied. First of all, by analyzing the characteristics of the microgrid system, a mathematical model and simulation calculation system are established to help understand the micro -grid system. Secondly, the author has carried out a separate study on the energy storage in the microgrid system, and listed the benefits and costs of the energy storage process. In the grid-connected state, the performance of each unit in the microgrid system is better, the system is more stable and safe, and the operating cost is reduced again..

This paper presents an approach for modeling and design of inductively coupled wireless bio-pressure sensor system for chronic intracardiac pressure monitoring. Making use of recent advances in microelectromechanical systems and semiconductor technology, bio-pressure sensor is developed as a series LC resonant circuit with a featured pressure-dependent capacitance working at the medical implant communication service band of 402-405 MHz for wireless sensing without power consumption. The microfabricated sensor consists of a planar spiral gold (Au) coil, a series capacitor, an SU-8-based frame structure, and an encapsulated bio-compatible PDMS membrane. Bio-pressure sensor is designed with a small footprint of 3.2 mm x 3.2 mm for reducing the bleeding and infection risks in surgery. With a limited footprint and desired working frequency, there are many mutually dependent geometry parameters with numerous combined groups of values involved in the full optimization of the system. In order to maximize the performance of system under the design requirements, RF characteristics that affect inductive sensitivity and pressure sensitivity are theoretically analyzed first, and then design of experiments method is applied to model and optimize 3-D electromagnetic models of sensor and sensor system on the derived RF characteristics. The large number of combined groups of values in factorial simulations is thus reduced to a few performance-related design factors. By monitoring the induced peak impedance of the readout coil, the pressure-dependent resonant frequency of the sensor can be detected and measured. The experimental results show that the optimized wireless sensor system has a relatively high average pressure sensitivity of 5.3 KHz/mm Hg at a telemetry distance of 10 mm demonstrating its potential for intracardiac pressure monitoring.

In this paper, we propose a methodology for optimizing a solar harvester with maximum power point tracking for self-powered wireless sensor network (WSN) nodes. We focus on maximizing the harvester's efficiency in transferring energy from the solar panel to the energy storing device. A photovoltaic panel analytical model, based on a simplified parameter extraction procedure, is adopted. This model predicts the instantaneous power collected by the panel helping the harvester design and optimization procedure. Moreover, a detailed modeling of the harvester is proposed to understand basic harvester behavior and optimize the circuit. Experimental results based on the presented design guidelines demonstrate the effectiveness of the adopted methodology. This design procedure helps in boosting efficiency, allowing to reach a maximum efficiency of 85% with discrete components. The application field of this circuit is not limited to self-powered WSIN nodes;it can easily be extended in embedded portable applications to extend the battery life.

The simple method for modeling of circuits of weakly coupled lossy resonant cavities, previously developed in quantum mechanics, is generalized to enable calculation of the transmission and reflection amplitudes and group delay of light. Our result is the generalized Breit-Wigner formula, which has a clear physical meaning and is convenient for fast modeling and optimization of complex resonant cavity circuits and, in particular, superstructure gratings in a way similar to modeling and optimization of electric circuits. As examples, we find the conditions when a finite linear chain of cavities and a linear chain with adjacent cavities act as bandpass and double bandpass filters, and the condition for a Y-shaped structure to act as a bandpass 50/50 light splitter. The group delay dependencies of the considered structures are also investigated. (C) 2003 Optical Society of America.

An online optimization system was developed and applied to the condensing steam turbine network of a chemical plant. First, we developed a hybrid model of the condensing steam turbines with multiple steam injectors, by combining thermodynamic models into support vector machines. The developed hybrid model is capable of predicting the electric power generated by the steam turbines, with prediction errors of 1%-2%, and computing several performance indicators, such as the overall efficiency and the power recovery rate. An optimization problem then was formulated by utilizing the developed model to maximize the total electric power recovery from the steam turbine network. Finally, an online optimization system was developed that consists of the optimization engine (to solve the optimization problem), the model manager (to update the models), and the optimization client (to inform the turbine operators of the optimization results). The energy cost has been considerably reduced, because the optimization system was applied to the steam turbine network. The proposed hybrid modeling method can be used to predict the performance and power generation rate of various types of steam turbines in the chemical process industry.

modeling and optimization of Fluoxetine degradation in aqueous solution by ozone/H2O2 process was investigated using central composite design (CCD) and the results were compared with the artificial neural network (ANN) predicted values. We studied the influence of basic operational parameters such as ozone concentration, initial concentration of H2O2 and Fluoxetine and reaction time. The ANN model was developed by feed-forward back propagation network with trainscg algorithm and topology (4: 8: 1). A good agreement between predicted values of Fluoxetine removal using CCD and ANN with experimental results was observed (R-2 values were 0.989 and 0.975 for the ANN and CCD models, respectively). The results showed that ANNs were superior in capturing the nonlinear behavior of the system and could estimate the values of Fluoxetine removal efficiency accurately. Pareto analysis indicated that all selected factors and some interactions were effective on removal efficiency. It was found that the reaction time with a percentage effect of 45.04% was the most effective parameter in the ozone/H2O2 process. The maximum removal efficiency (86.14%) was achieved at ozone concentration of 30 mg L-1, initial H2O2 concentration of 0.02 mM, reaction time of 20 min and initial Fluoxetine concentration of 50 mg L-1 as the optimal conditions.
