With the rising fuel costs and increased concerns for the environment, considerable work on advanced and hybrid propulsion systems is currently undertaken all over the world. This paper provides a feasibility study of the concept of hybridizing a Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). DCTs are the first automatics to provide better efficiency than manual transmissions. DCTs provide reduced shift shocks and better driver comfort, in addition to higher top speeds and torques. It is therefore an excellent candidate for hybridization. DCTs are also well suited for higher torque diesel engines and high speed gas engines. The easy software tunability characteristics have made them a favorite for a new class of vehicle designs. This paper presents an overview of a novel prototype system and uses system level modeling to justify the concept of hybridizing a DCT.

The underground water content rate of the oil reserve is the most important parameter in the oil exploitation. The physical experimental model is constructed as the practical oil field in geological structure and geological parameter according to the similarity theory in this paper. Based on a new data acquisition system, a mass of data which would be taken as the sample data is collected through stimulating the water displacing oil experiment in different conditions. Construct the ANN model of the water displacing oil process with the simulated annealing algorithm which is improved by the Powell arithmetic. Then forecast the underground water content rate in different area at certain time with the model. The method makes some instructional sense to the practical production.

This article presents the modeling of an electromagnetic smart surface and the simulation of the pallets displacement on this smart surface. This smart surface is a conveyance system that consists of a fixed coils platform and moving pallets. The platform is composed of a coil cells matrix, where each cell is independently supplied. It allows to independently move several pallets within the platform on a planar surface along flexible paths. The behavior of the smart conveyance surface is analyzed by the simulation of the dedicated model. This model uses an algorithm developed in order to generate pallet paths even when some disturbances occur such as failure of elementary cells or potential collision of pallets. The simulation of the pallet displacement with disturbance cases is realized to valid this algorithm.

This paper describes the modeling and simulation of a MEMS thermal actuator which is heated by a polysilicon heater. The geometry of the structure was simplified to a one-dimensional structure in order to calculate the temperature profile and the resulting displacement. During the calculations also the stress distribution is obtained. Next to the modeling, the structure was simulated using the finite-element method. As the temperature profile depends on the displacement of the actuator, an iterative simulation approach was adopted. The structures were fabricated and their characteristics showed good agreement with modeled and simulated results.

This article focuses on the analysis of the admissions to hospital-at-home service within the framework of Business Process Management. While traditional process analysis deal with internal hospital services, having a particular and specific scenario, e.g. a ward of an hospital, here we investigate a quite innovative service with a strong socio-territorial impact based on real data. In particular, we are interested in the understanding of the selection process in which staff discriminate cases of interest for the service. We describe here our methodological framework combining data and event log analysis, modeling with standard language and business process simulation with scenario analysis.
