Study of modeling optimization for hyperspectral imaging quantitative determination of naringin content in pomelo peel

With the development of modern computational science and data metrology, hyperspectral imaging technology has been utilized in the field of remote sensing for the application in precision agriculture and crop quality testing. In this paper, the near infrared hyperspectral imaging (NIRHSI) technique was applied to quantitatively determine the naringin content in pomelo peel samples. Model optimization was studied by investigating the influence of system measuring conditions and parameters of the built-up HSI instrumental system. The HSI data acquisition was built up using a prevalent pushbroom scanner in the near infrared region. Calibration models were established using the partial least squares (PIS) regression in the mode of cross validation, in combined use of the Savitzky-Golay smoother (SGS) for data pretreatment. These multivariate analytical models were optimized in comparison about the region of interest (ROI) for NIRHSI model optimization. In the process of NIRHSI data acquisition, the rational values of some system measurement parameters were also tuned and tested, such as the use of different watts for light intensity, different lenses and different materials as the scanning backgrounds. Results showed that the cross-validation PIS regression methods performed well in the calibration and prediction processes, working well together with the parameter tuning of the SGS pretreatment. In addition to the fact that different materials as the scanning backgrounds obviously affected the quantitative result, there is no apparent difference in the comparing cases of different light intensities and different lenses. This work validates the capability of applying NIRHSI technique to quantitative determine the content of naringin in pomelo peel samples. Based on the description of classic Petri-net modeling theory, this paper analyzed the workflow net reachability and rationality. Combining the Petri-net model characteristic, it described the four route structures of workflow net using a quadruple form of three nodes and a flow relation. Then it presented the optimization algorithm of adding controlling node, and optimized a case of insurance claim by the algorithm, verified the validation of the algorithm. Finally, it presented the parallel optimization and incorporation optimization algorithm. This algorithm could turn the sequential structure to parallel structure or incorporate two tasks to one that satisfying the optimization condition, thus reduced average completion time and reached the purpose of optimization. This algorithm was verified by a case of telecommunications business process.

Numerical Evaluation of Sodium Droplet Swarm Combustion and Its modeling optimization

Because of its superior thermal-hydraulic qualities, liquid sodium has been applied to a variety of industries, including energy storage, solar energy, sodium-cooled fast reactors, and aerospace. However, fires brought on by sodium leaks at high pressure can have major thermodynamic repercussions and put employees and equipment in use at risk directly or indirectly. As a result, a realistic and accurate forecast of the combustion behavior of sodium droplet swarm can offer technical backing for the use of liquid sodium in engineering as well as a way of sodium fire prevention and control. Spray dynamics (droplet settling, droplet particle size distribution, etc.), combustion kinetics (premixed combustion, gas phase combustion, etc.), sodium aerosol diffusion, and other specialized phenomena all contribute to the complex process of sodium droplet swarm combustion. The NACOM code created by Brookhaven National Laboratory for sodium droplet swarm combustion is utilized in this paper as a framework. The code is first validated using the benchmark of the sodium droplet swarm combustion tests carried out by prestigious institutions. The validation results demonstrate that the code's drag model, droplet combustion model, and heat transfer model are to blame for the significantly overestimated thermodynamic effects of sodium droplet swarm combustion. NACOM is subsequently developed twice for the authors' previously developed vapor-liquid two-layer-structure drag model, chemical kinetic combustion model, and suitable heat transfer coefficient. It is then thoroughly assessed for the separate-effects tests and integral-effects test. The evaluation results demonstrate that the optimized drag model accelerates the settling of sodium droplets due to the consideration of the sodium-vapor drag reduction effect, reducing the thermodynamic effects of liquid sodium combustion;the optimized premixed combustion model can accurately predict the low-temperature sodium droplet swarm combust

A cost-efficient distributed temperature sensor based on Rayleigh scattering in temperature sensitive optical fibers was proposed. The temperature dependence of the irradiated commercial off-the-shelf single mode fiber was analyzed. By combining a temperature dependent model of the sensitive fibers and loss resolution model of optical time domain reflectometer, a general sensor model has been developed. In order to optimize the temperature resolution, the length of each sensing segment and the overall sensing distance, three models are derived from the general model. Based on the models and parameters optimization, a novel design method is proposed. Using the method, a prototype was built and tested. The test results indicate that the temperature resolution is better than 1 degrees C in the temperature range from -40 degrees C to 150 degrees C, which is consistent with the optimal results.

Monolithic top emitting resonant cavity light-emitting diodes (RCLEDs) operating in the 650 and 880 nm ranges have been prepared using solid-source molecular beam epitaxy (SSMBE) growth. Transfer matrix based modelling together with a self-consistent model have been used to optimise the devices' performances. The design of the layer structure (distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) mirrors, microcavity, quantum wells (QWs), barriers, current spreading and cap layers) and doping profile was assisted by computer simulations that enabled many device improvements. Among the most significant ones intermediate-composition barrier-reduction layers were introduced in the DBR mirrors for improving the I-V characteristics and the cavity and mirrors were detuned aiming at maximum extraction efficiency. The fabricated devices showed line widths below 15 nm, CW light power output of 8 and 22.5 mW, and external quantum efficiencies of 3% and 14.1% in the 650 nm and 880 nm ranges, respectively - while the simulations indicate significant performance improvement possibilities.

Unexpected indenyl radical formation through thermal decomposition of naphthyl radical at high temperature

The present study investigated the thermal decomposition of naphthyl radical, a crucial intermediate in bustion processes, through a comprehensive experimental and theoretical investigation. By subjecting 1-naphthyl and 2-naphthyl to temperatures ranging from 730 to 1280 K in a flow reactor, we identified intermediates and isomeric products using synchrotron photoionization mass spectrometry and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Noteworthy findings include the unexpected observation of 1-indenyl and indene, alongside crucial intermediates like 1-methylindene and 1-methylene-1H-indene. The mechanistic analysis covered prominent features such as isomerization, alpha-scission, (3-scission, and H-addition in the thermal position of naphthyl radicals, with distinct decomposition pathways elucidating the structure-reactivity relationship. By developing a detailed kinetic model based on calculated reaction pathways and rate constants, our simulations align well with experimental observations for the production of naphthalene, 1,2-diethynylbenzene, and phenylacetylene. As an advanced high-performance material, carbon fiber-reinforced composites have become one of the most widely used and important materials among all composites, due to their lightweight, high modulus, high strength, low thermal expansion, and corrosion resistance. They are widely used in aerospace, military weaponry, renewable energy, and sports equipment. As a non-contact processing technology, laser processing has many advantages in the machining of carbon fiber-reinforced composites. However, the significant differences in thermal-physical properties between carbon fibers and the resin matrix present substantial challenges for laser processing. During the laser processing of CFRP materials, a heat-affected zone typically forms, which not only affects processing quality but also reduces processing efficiency. Therefore, reducing and eliminating the heat-affected zone has become a critical issue in the laser processing of CFRP materials. In recent years, extensive research on CFRP laser processing technology has been conducted both domestically and internationally, and this paper will provide a summary. This paper conducts a comprehensive and in-depth study of laser processing of carbon fiber composites and explores the effects of different parameters on the heat-affected zone. Additionally, this paper describes the treatment of carbon fiber composites using multi-energy field-assisted laser processing technology, as well as the modeling and optimization of process performance. Finally, an outlook on the development trends of laser processing of CFRP is provided.

Electrochemically Assisted (Bio)leaching of End-of-Life Lithium-Ion Batteries for Critical Metals Recovery

Reclaiming critical metals from end-of-life (EOL) lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is necessary for achieving global decarbonization goals. We evaluated a novel recycling strategy that combines the advantages of electrochemically assisted leaching and organic acid leaching to recover critical metals from EOL LIBs. A gluconic acid (GA)-containing solution produced by the bacterium Gluconobacter oxydans was used as the electrolyte and lixiviant in an electrochemical system, wherein a reducing agent, ferrous iron, was continuously regenerated. A reductant is necessary for efficient solubilization of the LIB cathode metals (Co, Ni, and Mn) under acidic conditions. GA avoids some of the chemical neutralization and disposition issues associated with more corrosive mineral acids. Design of experiments modeling revealed the relative impacts of temperature, pulp density, and GA concentration on metal extraction efficiencies and predicted the net present value (NPV) of a LIB recycling operation based on the approach. While metal extraction efficiency was governed by the GA concentration, NPV was most reliant on the LIB pulp density. Although under today's market conditions, the current iteration of the integrated approach is not predicted to be profitable, our efforts to find an optimal balance between the extraction efficiency and NPV offer a template for improving the economic viability of critical metal recycling approaches.

Kinetic study of biodegradation of BTX compounds in mono- and multicomponent systems in reactor with immobilized biomass

In this study, kinetic parameters were determined for the biodegradation of BTX compounds in a fixed-bed reactor with immobilized biomass, fed with mono- and multicomponent systems. The parameter estimation was achieved through an algorithm using the finite volume method. Different kinetic models were evaluated. The Monod model proved to be suitable to predict the experimental data for the biodegradation individual BTX compound. In multicomponent systems, it was found that the presence of more than one compound tends to cause competitive inhibition. To identify the models that best fit the experimental data, a statistical analysis using the F test was applied. For the two-and three-component systems the presence of more than one compound tends to cause competitive inhibition. In this study, it was possible to predict kinetic parameters in mono- and multicomponent systems as well as different operation conditions for a fixed-bed reactor with immobilized biomass.

A novel micro-scale structure reconstruction approach for porous media and characterization analysis: An application in ceramics-based diesel particulate filter

Diesel particulate filter (DPF) made from cordierite with a porous filter media structure has become an essential component in diesel engines to meet the increasingly the strict emission standards. Hence, a more accurate and universal DPF porous filter media model is necessary to analyze the complex mechanism and optimize its performance. In this work, a new optimization method was proposed for the initial DPF model constructed by the quartet structure generation set (QSGS), and the fractal and spectral dimension were used to quantify the actual effects of the optimized DPF model. Results showed that the method could effectively repair dead zones and eliminate burr boundaries, thus decreasing the complexity of the pore structure and increasing the effective flow area of the DPF model. The increase in porosity decreased the fractal dimension and increased the spectral dimension in porous media. Additionally, simulation results showed that the proposed method was more effective on burr boundaries. This allows the optimization method to be adopted more effectively in porous media modeling and provides improved guidance for optimization. Not only DPF, the proposed method offers a new idea for the structure optimization of porous filter media.
