The use of signal blocking to improve the performance of a directional constrained adaptive array with real-symmetric weights is proposed. With signal blocking, the adapted beamwidth of the array is broadened, thereby reducing the effect of pointing errors, and the output signal-to noise-plus-interference ratio (SNIR) converges with less signal samples. A modifiedsamplematrixinversion (SMI) algorithm is described, which allows the adaptive weight vector to be computed more efficiently. Computer simulation results are presented for illustration.
