In this paper some three-layer neural networks are trained for execution of programmed pulse width modulation (PPWM) method in voltage source inverters (VSIs). Solving the custom difficulties of utilization of PPWM such as large size of memory, complex control circuits and controlling the magnitude of output voltage in discrete manner in addition to presentation of performance index variations vs. the time of training, spectrum frequency of output voltage, THD variations vs. the fundamental frequency and the operation of inverter at non-trained values are the main subjects of this paper.

Space-time block codes provide substantial diversity advantages in multiple transmit antenna assisted systems at a low decoding complexity. In this contribution, we concatenate space-time codes with three turbo coding schemes, namely turbo BCH (TBCH) codes, turbo convolutional (TC) codes and turbo trellis coded modulation (TTCM) schemes for the sake of achieving significant coding gain. The issues of mapping coded bits of the TBCH and TC schemes to different protection classes of various multilevel modulation schemes is also addressed. Finally, the performance and associated complexity of the three turbo schemes is compared.

In this paper, we propose a construction of periodic complete complementary codes composed of the expanded modulatable orthogonal sequences. Because the number of the expanded modulatable orthogonal sequences of period N/sup 2/ is infinite, the number of the periodic complete complementary codes of period N/sup 2/ is also infinite. It is already proved that the proposed sequences are periodic complete complementary codes. In the meantime Suehiro (1998) has proposed a signal design method for approximately synchronized CDMA systems without co-channel interference. In this signal design method, we can assign the proposed periodic complete complementary codes as code words to each user so that the information transmission rate is increased.

This paper considers joint channel estimation and data detection for multipath radio channels with multiple antennas at the transmitter and/or receiver. An iterative space-time receiver based on the expectation maximization (EM) algorithm is described and performance is investigated on fast fading channels for several transmit diversity and space-time coding schemes.

Space-time block codes providing transmit diversity for communication over multiple transmitter channels are considered. A scheme giving ad possible 4 antenna, 4 epoch space-time block codes is presented. The scheme generalizes to an arbitrary number of Tx antennas, optimizing the transmission delay and modulator rate when full diversity is required. For four transmit antennas, the antenna power spectrum of the space-time block code is optimized.

We study advanced receiver based techniques to alleviate the effects of nonlinear distortion in the bandlimited coded nonlinear satellite channel. First we develop a novel reduced complexity maximum likelihood sequence estimator for a Volterra channel model, which can be used for combined equalization and decoding in trellis coded systems. We show that the combined equalization and decoding scheme gives about 1.0 dB gain for 16 QAM TCM (at a BER=10/sup -3/) compared with conventional separate equalization, and is more robust with respect to deviation of the output back-off from its optimal value. We also investigate the performance of turbo coding in the nonlinear satellite channel using combined and separate equalization and decoding schemes.

There are several ways to use iterative decoding techniques with coded continuous phase modulation (CPM). This paper presents a method using parallel concatenation of convolutionally-coded CPM. All CPM schemes can be decomposed into a ring convolutional code and a memoryless signal mapper. This allows a properly designed convolutional code trellis to be combined with the CPM trellis, producing the joint trellis of a constituent code. Parallel concatenation of such constituent codes combined with iterative decoding yields very good performance. We present the results of code searches for two binary CPM schemes, each using bit interleaving and symbol interleaving. Simulation results using various length interleavers are also provided. Low complexity encoders are shown to perform better using bit interleaving, whereas encoders with higher complexity perform better with symbol interleaving.

A new trellis coded modulation (TCM) design method is presented in this paper in order to improve the coding gain for wireless communications through AWGN and intersymbol interference (ISI) channel. In this work, a definition for matching the distribution of received symbol probability to the signal subset construction, called "matched symbol-mapping", is proposed. Several new codes have been constructed at throughput (Rb) of 1, 1.5, 2.5 and 3 bits/sec/Hz. They have been simulated in AWGN, and in multipath Rayleigh fading (ISI) channel with signal equalization by sub-optimum soft output equalizer (SSE), and with pre-equalization by phase precoding. Results show that the proposed method can be used successfully to construct new TCM codes achieving a better performance.

Summary form only *** data storage records information in the form of volumetric gratings within the volume of the recording medium. In digital holographic storage information is typically encoded in the form of data pages, which includes modulation coding, data shuffling, and error correction. Selective properties of volumetric gratings allow for a multitude of holograms to be recorded in virtually the same volume through angular, wavelength, or shift and correlation multiplexing techniques. Potentially high data density and transfer rates (which are due to highly parallel access to the stored data) have been a topic of intense research and development. Short data seek time (<100 /spl mu/sec) and high transfer rates (/spl sim/1 Gbit/sec) can be realized in systems with no moving parts which employ bulk photorefractive crystals as storage media. The holographic disk approach allows for an easy access to a large area of the storage media, and, therefore, is more suitable for high capacity applications. Our holographic disks storage system includes hardware implemented channel decoding providing high transfer rate (1 Gbit/sec) and high capacity storage (>100 Gbit per 6.5' disk).

This paper presents channel precoding schemes to combat intersymbol interference (ISI) over a frequency-selective slow fading channel in wireless communication systems using /spl pi//4 differential quadrature phase shift keying (/spl pi//4-DQPSK) or minimum shift keying (MSK). Based on the dimension partitioning technique, the precoders predistort the phase of the transmitted signals in the forward link to combat ISI, keeping the transmitted signal amplitude constant. The precoding schemes can (i) ensure the stability of the precoders even in equalizing a non-minimum-phase channel, (ii) achieve ISI-free transmission without increasing the complexity of the portable unit receiver and (iii) reduce the envelope variations of transmitted signals such that a power efficient nonlinear amplifier can be used without causing undue distortion. Theoretical and simulation results are presented to demonstrate that the proposed channel precoders can outperform DFE when the ISI is severe and the precoding scheme for /spl pi//4-DQPSK can achieve a smaller envelope variation than the standard /spl pi//4-DQPSK.
