Build-in wiretap channel I with feedback and LDPC codes by soft decision decoding

Many approaches to build a wiretap channel (WTC) by multi-input multi-output system have been introduced. Different from those approaches, the authors propose a feedback method combined with the low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes for building the WTC I (WTC-I) to achieve unconditional security under single-input single-output system by the soft decision decoding. The novel approach establishes the WTC-I on both the binary symmetric channel and binary input additive white Gaussian noise channel. In order to keep the eavesdropper be fully ignorant about the secret information, randomness is added to the feedback signals from the destination by taking advantage of feedback. In addition, the message to be sent is encoded by the LDPC codes such that it can be correctly decoded by a legitimate receiver. Furthermore, the secret information transmission capacity can be improved by the soft decision decoding.

Contribution of state modelling in efficient MAP symbol-by-symbol demodulation schemes for CPM-MIMO systems

In [1], a state space model was derived for the demodulation of Continuous Phase Modulation (CPM) signals, based on which the demodulation problem was solved through the symbol-by-symbol Bayesian estimation built around the MAP Symbol-by-symbol Detector (MAPSD). In this paper, a new state space model considered in the augmented state composed of the symbol and the phase state is proposed and the corresponding modified MAPSD demodulation scheme is presented. The main contribution of the paper however consists in deriving optimal and suboptimal symbol-by-symbol MAP detection schemes for MIMO systems operating with CPM signals. For this, a state model description of the corresponding demodulation problem is introduced based on which two CPM-MIMO Bayesian demodulators are proposed. The first one uses a Zero Forcing (ZF) pre-processing block to separate the different CPM signals followed by a bank of MAPSD based CPM demodulators. The second demodulator consists in a joint decision feedback (DF) CPM-MIMO MAPSD detector. Simulations confirm the good performance in term of BER of both proposed structures. Particularly, high BER's performance of the partially joint CPM-MIMO-MAPSD/DF is recorded and an emphasis is made on the implementation simplicity of this new detector with no constraint on the modulation index or the alphabet size. Vector sampling expansion in Riesz bases setting and its aliasing error

We consider the multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system of vector valued band-limited signals, which are transferred through an M x N LTI (linear time invariant) system of channels. D. Seidner and M. Feder considered this vector sampling expansion (VSE) with the formal delta-method, which is a natural generalization of Papoulis' generalized sampling expansion (GSE) for single input multi-output systems. Later R. Venkataramani and Y. Bresler considered a more general MIMO sampling for multiband signals in the frame setting. In this work, we consider the VSE problem by using the Riesz basis method, which enables us to clarify obscurities in some of the previous works related to GSE and VSE problem. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for a VSE formula to hold as a Riesz basis expansion in the MIMO system. We also obtain an upper bound of the aliasing error which occurs when we apply the VSE formula to non-band-limited vector signals. (c) 2007 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Interactions and multivariable design of STATCOM AC and DC voltage control

A static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) may be equipped with several controllers to perform multiple control functions. However, in this paper, a study case of negative interactions between STATCOM AC and DC control is reported, which indicates that the conventional arrangement of multiple controllers for STATCOM various control functions may not always be appropriate. Hence, it is suggested that the multiple control functions of the STATCOM are implemented by a single multivariable controller, which is designed by treating the STATCOM installed in a power system as a multi-input multi-output control system. In this paper, an example is demonstrated, where a single two-variable controller is successfully designed to perform both STATCOM AC and DC voltage control function. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. Low-Complexity Decoder Based on Conditional ML for QOSTBC

In this letter, we present a new decoder for quasi-orthogonal space-time block code (QOSTBC) based on conditional maximum-likelihood (ML) decoder. The proposed decoder results in the decoding complexity of 0(/) ), where L is the constellation size. In addition, by decomposing the real and imaginary components of the received signals, we further reduce the complexity of the decoder. Unlike many of previous decoders proposed for QOSTBC, our decoder is compatible with any complex-valued constellation such as quadrature amplitude modulation. Furthermore, the advantage of the proposed decoder with respect to other decoders is analyzed in terms of preprocessing and detection complexity. The simulation results show the identical bit error rate performance of the proposed and conventional ML decoder.

A third-order sliding mode controller for nonlinear multivariable systems

This paper proposes a third-order sliding mode controller for nonlinear multivariable systems with uncertain parameters and subject to external disturbances. The controller achieves fast convergence rate, high tracking accuracy, and a reduced level of chattering. The stability of the controller and its global ultimately uniform convergence is proved by the Lyapunov stability theory. Simulation results on a single inverted pendulum system are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme by comparing it with methods such as a second-order supertwisting controller, a third-order supertwisting controller, and an integral terminal third-order sliding mode controller.

Further results on the boundedness of multidimensional systems

A sufficient condition is derived in this paper for the boundedness of a linear time invariant (LTI) multidimensional (MD) dynamic system over a special class of frequency domains. These frequency domains are able to include many practically adopted frequency domains, such as fans, rectangles, etc., as a special situation, as well as to give an approximation with a tolerable accuracy to many other physically significant frequency domains like ellipsoids and diamonds. This condition becomes also necessary when the prescribed frequency domain is path-connected. Moreover, it is expressed in a linear matrix inequality (LMI) form and can be directly applied to the optimization of system output matrix and direct transmission matrix, as well as the minimization of the frequency response bound. In addition, the dimension of the LMI is in the same order as that of the system matrices. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Smooth second-order sliding mode controller for multivariable mechanical systems

This paper proposes a smooth second-order sliding mode controller for a class of multi-input multi-output mechanical systems with uncertain parameters and external disturbances. Since the control law is smooth, the chattering effect that can occur with non-smooth controllers is reduced. Lyapunov-based theorems are used to prove global and finite-time convergence of the sliding mode controller. Numerical simulations are presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed controller by applying it first to a variable-length pendulum and then to a two-link robotic manipulator. For the robotic manipulator, a detailed comparison is given of the finite-time convergence and chattering properties of the proposed controller, a super-twisting controller and a super-twisting like controller.

The aim of this paper is to deal with the problem of conditional heteroscedastic noise in multivariate systems. In this regard, a new multivariate equation-error system with colored noise is introduced, in which the noise conditional variance varies with time and the noise exhibits a GARCH process. Thus, in this our new approach, both the time dependency and probability distribution of noise samples shall be identified. Based on the maximum likelihood principle and orthogonality of parameters, the problem of multivariate system identification is reduced into two separate maximum likelihood problems. An iterative algorithm is proposed, which can efficiently estimate the problem parameters based on gradient reduction and nonlinear optimization. Besides, a bootstrap algorithm is applied for assessing the accuracy of estimators. Also, some asymptotic result of proposed method in large sample size is provided. According to bootstrap simulation results, the proposed algorithm can effectively estimate the parameters of the system with conditional heteroscedastic noise and provides more accurate parameter estimates with a much lower confidence interval, compared to the least square method. This paper uses a multi-layered control scheme consisting of model predictive control (MPC) and mixed integer non-linear programming (MINLP) for the analysis of power plant net operating revenue when retrofitted with a post-combustion carbon capture (PCC) plant. The capability of the proposed control scheme is examined for 24-hour operations of an integrated plant (power plant with PCC) in the years 2011 and 2020. The control scheme is tested in response to variability in upstream power plant dynamic loads. The agility of the control scheme subject to forecast 2020 electricity and carbon prices is shown to result in yearly net operating revenue of approximately 12% of the gross revenue. Whereas, the same integrated plant generates a net operating revenue loss of roughly 13% of the gross revenue under 2011 electricity and carbon prices.
