multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) DC-DC converters have become integral to modern power electronic systems, offering significant advantages over traditional single-input-single-output converters. These advantages include reduced component count, enhanced efficiency, flexibility, reliability, compact size, improved power quality, scalability, and seamless integration with energy storage systems. These features make MIMO converters indispensable for various applications. However, they also present challenges such as increased component complexity, cross-regulation issues, and sophisticated control requirements. To address these challenges, a novel converter topology is proposed in this paper. The proposed method features a reduced component count and independent duty ratio control, effectively eliminating cross-regulation issues. This design is tailored for remote village DC microgrid applications. The performance and effectiveness of the proposed converter are validated through simulation and experimental results using a 250 W prototype.

Error analyses of a multi-input-multi-output cantilever beam test

multi-input-multi-output vibration testing typically requires the determination of inputs to achieve desired response at multiple locations. First, the responses due to each input are quantified in terms of complex transfer functions in the frequency domain. In this study, two inputs and five Responses were used leading to a 5 x 2 transfer function matrix. inputs corresponding to the desired Responses are then computed by inversion of the rectangular matrix using Pseudo-Inverse techniques that involve least-squared solutions. It is important to understand and quantify the various sources of errors in this process toward improved implementation of multi-input-multi-output testing. In this article, tests on a cantilever beam with two actuators (input controlled smart shakers) were used as inputs while acceleration Responses were measured at five locations including the two input locations. Variation among tests was quantified including its impact on transfer functions across the relevant frequency domain. Accuracy of linear superposition of the influence of two actuators was quantified to investigate the influence of relative phase information. Finally, the accuracy of the multi-input-multi-output inversion process was investigated while varying the number of Responses from 2 (square transfer function matrix) to 5 (full-rectangular transfer function matrix). Results were examined in the context of the resonances and anti-resonances of the system as well as the ability of the actuators to provide actuation energy across the domain. Improved understanding of the sources of uncertainty from this study can be used for more complex multi-input-multi-output experiments.

Recursive identification for multi-input-multi-output Hammerstein-Wiener system

In this paper, an identification method based on the recursive auxiliary variable least squares algorithm is proposed for a multi-input-multi-output Hammerstein-Wiener system with process noise. In the proposed identification method, the system is converted into the multivariate regression form under the condition that the nonlinear block in the output part is invertible. Then, the auxiliary variable is constructed, the parameters of the regression equations are identified, and the system parameter matrices can be obtained by matrix composition of the parameter product matrix. A theoretical analysis showed that the proposed method has uniform convergence when the process noise is white and has a finite variance. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated through the experiments.

Four actor-critic structures and algorithms for nonlinear multi-input multi-output system

The action-dependent heuristic approximate dynamic (ADHDP) for nonlinear multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system needs different forms to adapt to variable practical objects. Due to some inappropriate network structure or training algorithm, unsuccessful designs or undesirable control effect is common in reality. Thus, at first, this paper addresses the chain rule problem of the compound derivative in training the nonlinear MIMO ADHDP. Then, this paper researches and proposes four actor-critic algorithms systematically according to four typical nonlinear systems. That is, the action-network extension, the sub-network, the cascaded action-network and the combined method. To illustrate the four methods, their detailed structures, derivation procedures and training algorithms are derived. The Lyapunov stability for the nonlinear MIMO ADHDP is proved as well. Through examples of an idling engine and aircraft controlling, the simulation results show the effectiveness of these methods. Besides, the property, advantages, disadvantages and the applicability of these methods are compared and highlighted. The four methods can be used to meet the design requirement of almost all the nonlinear MIMO ADHDP control systems. For incoming scholars in search of a nonlinear MIMO ADHDP to achieve the best control effect, the four actor-critic structures and algorithms can be a reference. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. In this paper, Four action-dependent heuristic dynamic programming control methods are presented for nonlinear multi-input-multi-output system with different characters based on the topology principle. These four methods are the action-network extension method, the sub-network method, the cascaded action-network method and the combined method. The derivation procedure and computing formulas of these methods are also derived. In it, the action-network extension method is mainly used for the conditions where the multi-output variables have the same orders of magnitude and a naturally coupled relationship. The sub-network method can nearly be applied in all cases and can solve the problem that the multi-output variables have different orders of magnitude. The cascaded action-network method is utilized when the multiple input variables have explicit cascaded relationships. The combined method can be used to control some highly regarded systems. Thus, these four methods can almost be used to satisfy all the design requirements of the nonlinear multi-input-multi-output control systems. The latter can refer to and select these methods as well as formulas for their control systems according to the research results to achieve a better control effect.

A multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) sliding mode controller has been proposed in this paper in order to control a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) power conditioning system with an LCL filter. In the proposed control approach, nonlinear-control method is used and simultaneous control of both the AC and DC inverter sides is done. Therefore, all the state variables are controlled simultaneously. The proposed sliding mode control (SMC) method provides several advantages, including zero grid current error, easy implementation, and robustness against parameter uncertainties of the investigated system. Hence, the resonance in the inverter output resulting from the LCL filter can be eliminated using SMC with no need for active damping techniques. Applying this approach can bring about maximum power point tracking (MPPT), control of the DC side, and injection of high-quality current into the grid at the AC side of the inverter. Various simulations have been conducted in MATLAB/Simulink for the proposed system.

A Secure Coded MIMO System Under Imperfect Channel Estimation

There have been many researches on physical layer security (PLS) schemes using dynamic channel information, but most of them assumed the perfect channel information, which is difficult to obtain in practical systems. This paper proposes an efficient PLS scheme for coded multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems operating under imperfect channel estimation conditions. Since coded MIMO systems are typically equipped with an interleaver for bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM), which is associated with soft iterative decoding, the scheme proposed herein adopts a random interleaving index, which is a function of the legitimate channel. This scheme also includes a novel strategy to prevent the performance degradation caused by channel estimation error through the combination of ancillary forward error correction (AFEC). This innovative concept can archive an advanced level of security protection without requiring any additional power. We also derive the secrecy rate of the proposed scheme. The simulation results presented in this paper demonstrate that the proposed scheme effectively protects the transmitted data without any information leakage to the eavesdropper.

Transmission Simulator Based MIMO Response Reconstruction

Current industry standard environmental verification testing methods typically employ a single shaker to subject a component to a desired environment in one axis at a time, which has been shown to result in over- or under-testing on the various axes and hence a poor representation of the desired environment. This paper explores a new verification testing methodology based on a combination of the Transmission Simulator Substructuring Method (TSM) with the Impedance Matched multi Axis Testing (IMMAT) method. The new method seeks to verify the survival of a subcomponent in a given environment using only environmental measurements on the structure to which the subcomponent is attached. A Transmission Simulator (TS) is used to maintain the same connection geometry between the subcomponent and the rest of the vehicle such that the dynamics of the subcomponent are better matched. Impedance Matched multi Axis Testing is then used to recreate the full environment on the Transmission Simulator in all axes at once. If the impedance between the Transmission Simulator and the subcomponent is sufficiently similar and if the control is successful in reproducing the response on the Transmission Simulator, the motion of the subcomponent of interest should match its motion in the desired environment and produce an accurate reconstruction test. To evaluate this new methodology, simulations were performed using roving hammer data both to optimize the test design and to evaluate the best possible performance. multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) tests were then performed using a commercial control system to assess the accuracy of the method. These cases showed that the proposed approach was able to reconstruct the desired environment with moderate accuracy, but the response away from the Transmission Simulator was found to be very sensitive to the design of the Transmission Simulator.

RBFNDOB-based neural network inverse control for non-minimum phase MIMO system with disturbances

An adaptive control strategy combining neural network inverse controller (NNIC) with RBFN disturbance observer (RBFNDOB) is developed for a multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) system with non-minimum phase, internal and external disturbances in this paper. Since the inverse model of system is unstable due to the non-minimum phase, a pseudo-plant is constructed, then the RBFN is used to identify the inverse model of pseudo-plant, which can track the parameter variations of system. By copying the structure and parameters of the identifier, the NNIC is obtained. Cascading the NNIC with the original plant, the MIMO system can be decoupled and linearized into independent SISO systems. For the independent decoupled system, the RBFNDOB employs a RBFN to observe the external disturbances and this estimate value is used as a feed-forward compensation term in controller. The case study on ball mill grinding circuit is presented. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by simulation results and comparisons. (c) 2014 ISA. Published by Elsevier Ltd. Pilot Matrix Design for Estimating Cascaded Channels in Two-Hop MIMO Amplify-and-Forward Relay Systems

In this paper, we consider a two-hop multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) amplify-and-forward (AF) relay system consisting of a source node (SN), a destination node (DN), and a relay node (RN) that simply amplifies and forwards its received signal to the DN without any further processing. In this system, the overall channel from the SN to the DN is a cascade of the backward relay channel over the SN-RN hop, the amplifying matrix at the RN, and the forward relay channel over the RN-DN hop. We investigate the estimation of the two cascaded relay channels at the DN based on the predefined amplifying matrix applied at the RN and the corresponding overall channel obtained through the conventional channel estimation algorithms with the help of pilots transmitted by the SN. In particular, we find necessary and sufficient conditions on the pilot amplifying matrix sequence at the RN to ensure feasible relay channel estimation at the DN. Based on these conditions, we present rules to design diagonal or quasi-diagonal pilot amplifying matrices so that the cascaded relay channels can be estimated with minimum complexity at the RN. In the presence of imperfect overall channel state information at the DN, we further develop the approximate linear least-square estimation of the relay channels based on the designed pilot matrix sequence and demonstrate its performance by simulation results.
