Stochastic multi-objective optimal energy and reactive power dispatch considering cost, loading margin and coordinated reactive power reserve management

In the recent years, modem wind farms (WF) are being increasingly integrated in the power systems. Thanks to the capability curve of doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbines, these modem WFs are able to separately supply active and reactive powers. Accordingly, by increasing the penetration of this kind of sources, both voltage stability and reactive power reserve (RPR) management of power system can be affected. This issue makes it important to propose a new methodology for optimal energy and reactive power dispatch in a system with integrated modem WFs in order to effectively take into consideration the capabilities of modem WFs in different aspects of power system operation. Under this perspective, this paper proposes a stochastic multi objective optimal dispatch (SMO-OD) problem in the presence of modem WFs to make a techno-economic framework for the system operators (SOs). The proposed SMO-OD problem aims at minimizing expected payments of energy and reactive power markets, and maximizing expected RPR and loading margin (LM) in the presence of wind power generation uncertainty. This paper also contributes to the relevant literature by formulating a model which determines the RPR of modern WFs to be included in the management of total RPR of the power system. Also, a coordinated RPR (CRPR) scheme is proposed by using this model. The proposed model benefits from a detailed reactive power output model of the DFIG wind turbines in order to handle real-world power system operation. Two studies are considered in the proposed SMO-OD problem: (i) SMO-OD with uncoordinated RPR provision (SMO-OD-URPR), and (ii) SMO-OD with the CRPR provision (SMO-OD-CRPR). The proposed SMO-OD problem is applied to the IEEE 30-bus test system. Simulation results show that using the proposed model, a proper trade-off is made between technical and economic aspects of power system operation, and considerable LM and RPR are provided. The spatial layout of the port industrial zone problem is a core issue in port industrial zone planning, and it directly affects the actual effects of the port industrial zone. Firstly, considering that existing port industrial zone planning lacks in methods of quantitative analysis, this paper constructs a Mathematical model based on multi-objective programming, and the optimal scale of various industries of port industrial zone is obtained. Secondly, the paper takes the maximum dependence degree of port as objective function by using systematic layout planning tools, and solves the spatial layout of the port industrial zone. Finally, by taking Binhai Port industrial zone of China as an example, a port industrial zone spatial layout model is constructed and solved through simulated annealing algorithm. The optimal spatial layout program for Binhai Port industrial zone of China was obtained, which verifies the feasibility and accuracy of the model.

System portfolio selection with decision-making preference baseline value for system of systems construction

For multi-objective problems, most corresponding methods will terminate when the non-dominated set (Pareto set) is acquired, while some redundant systems may exist in it. The same situation may appear in the weapon system portfolio selection as it always tends to be a multi-objective problem. The paper employs a baseline-based method to decide whether to select a redundant system. First, the problem is analyzed in depth to demonstrate the connotation of baseline and related concepts are defined. Then, based on the definition of the redundancy system, baseline system, and baseline value, the weapon system portfolio selection approach with regard to a baseline value is proposed. Starting from the two core parts of the approach, selection strategy analysis, and weapon systems ranking, the strategy analysis of weapon system selection under a single objective and multiple objectives were performed. Subsequently, the interval number theory was employed to extend the VIKOR method to the E-VIKOR method, with a linear programming model as the weighting method under uncertainties to rank the candidate weapon systems. Finally, a case with three different ranking results of candidate weapon systems are studied under different weighting schemes. Based on the ranking results, baseline value, and selection strategy, the weapon system portfolio refining was developed. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A robust optimization model for efficient and green supply chain planning with postponement strategy

This paper presents a bi-objective robust optimization model for the integrated production and distribution planning of a supply chain with the postponement strategy. The two objectives are economic (cost minimization) and environmental (greenhouse gas emissions minimization), respectively. The robust model is capable of incorporating decision makers' risk attitudes in addressing demand uncertainties under conditions of very limited historical data. The application of the proposed approach is examined using real data of an actual pharmaceutical supply chain as well as a benchmark problem in the existing literature. Our analysis and investigation focuses on exploring the extent to which the tradeoffs between economic and environmental objectives are influenced by the decision makers' risk preferences and postponement strategy. We find that independent of the amount of greenhouse gas emissions and degree of demand variability, the postponement strategy can consistently provide cost savings for the supply chain.

Model and algorithm of routes planning for emergency relief distribution in disaster management with disaster information update

Emergency relief distribution plays a vital role during disaster responding. This paper studies routes selection and transportation time moment selection for emergency relief distribution along with disaster information updating. This paper derives a new definition for route reliability, which is a combination of multiple routes according to three factors: reliability of each edge, the number of dissimilar detour paths, and dissimilarity of multiple routes. Transportation time moment is determined according to disaster information updating accuracy rate. A multi-objective mathematical programming is formulated for route planning problem. The objective function consists route reliability and information accuracy rate. Then we present an ant colony optimization algorithm to solve this problem. Disaster information update process is clarified, as well as propose a new way to evaluate multiple routes reliability and applying an improved ant colony optimization algorithm. Finally, an earthquake around Ludian in Yunnan Provence is considered as a disaster scenario to analyze our model and algorithm, include the optimal solution, parameters' impact on objective function, and performance of our algorithms.

A multilateral perspective towards blood network design in an uncertain environment: Methodology and implementation

Motivated by a real-life case study, this paper proposes a multilateral perspective for blood supply chain network design as an intricate decision-making problem. The proposed approach utilizes a novel multi-objective mathematical model by incorporating both quantitative and qualitative factors to comprehensively model the investigated case study. In the proposed model, the quantitative factors aim to minimize the loss of product freshness and total cost of the network. Moreover, the number of collection facilities, which are capable of collecting blood, are maximized through a formulation based upon qualitative criteria. Moreover, to cope with the uncertainty, a robust optimization approach is utilized, and an interactive fuzzy solution approach is applied to solve the proposed multi-objective model. The computational results demonstrate the capability of the proposed model in designing the blood supply chain network in practice. Moreover, some sensitivity analyses are conducted to show the findings observed in a real case study. The results show that the decision makers should be aware of quality-based requirements, because of significant impact on blood facility location, besides the cost oriented consideration. Moreover, concerning of uncertainty, the results obtained from the robust approach outweigh those of the deterministic one. Finally, based on the finding, helpful managerial insights are provided for the decision makers in the blood supply chain network design.

Integrating reference point, Kuhn-Tucker conditions and neural network approach for multi-objective and multi-level programming problems

In this paper, a neural network approach is constructed to solve multi-objective programming problem (MOPP) and multi-level programming problem (MLPP). The main idea is to convert the MOPP and the MLPP into an equivalent convex optimization problem. A neural network approach is then constructed for solving the obtained convex programming problem. Based on employing Lyapunov theory, the proposed neural network approach is stable in the sense of Lyapunov and it is globally convergent to an exact optimal solution of the MOPP and the MLPP. The simulation results also demonstrate that the proposed neural network is feasible and efficient.

A robust multi-objective model for supporting agricultural water management with uncertain preferences

Sustainable management of agricultural water resources is essential for promoting regional development and restoring ecological environment. Due to the imperfection of knowledge and imprecision of expression, the preferences of objectives are uncertain in nature. However, the uncertain feature of objective preferences is often neglected in solving multi-objective water management problems. Also, random information is prevalent in in the optimizaiton efforts of agricultural water management systems. Recognizing the needs to tackle uncertainty existing in both preferences over objectives and parameters of constraints, a new mathematical programming method named multi-objective chance-constrained programming approach for planning problems with uncertain weights (MCUW) was proposed. It could handle uncertain weights of objectives without known distributions, and quantify the risks of objective unattainability arising from such uncertainty. It could also deal with uncertain parameters with known probability distributions, generating solutions with varied risks of constraint violation. The proposed MCUW method was applied to a case study of agricultural water resources management problem in Northwest China to demonstrate its applicability. multiple sets of optimal solutions under different combinations of weights fluctuation ranges, protection levels, and surface water availabilities were obtained, providing management options for stakeholders with different risk appetites. Results indicate that the objective value would increase with higher risks of objective unattainability or water-shortage. The MCUW method was compared to two potential alternatives and deemed effective in balancing multiple objectives and tackling complex uncertainties. Monte Carlo simulation showed that the results of MCUW were more densely distributed than those obtained from the model with deterministic weights, verifying that the developed MCUW model could provide robust solutions when faced with

Project Time-Cost-Quality Trade-off Problem: A Novel Approach Based on Fuzzy Decision Making

Trade-off problems concentrate on balancing the main parameters of a project as completion time, total cost and quality of activities. In this study, the problem of project time-cost-quality trade-off is formulated and solved from a new standpoint. For this purpose, completion time and crash cost of project are illustrated as fuzzy goals, also the dependency of implementing time of each activity and its execution-quality is described by a fuzzy number. The overall quality of the project execution is defined as the minimum execution-quality of the project activities that should be maximized. Based on some real assumptions, a three-objective programming problem associated with the time-costquality trade-off problem is formulated;then with the aim of identifying a fair and appropriate trade-off, the research problem is reformulated as a single objective linear programming by utilizing a fuzzy decision-making methodology. Generating a final preferred solution, rather than a set of Pareto optimal solutions, and having a reasonable interpretation are two most important advantages of the proposed approach. To explain the practical performance of the proposed models and approach, a time-cost-quality trade-off problem for a project with real data is solved and analyzed.

A scenario-based robust possibilistic model for a multi-objective electronic reverse logistics network

Electronic reverse logistics topic has received growing attention because of its environmental and economic impact. In Canada, the province of Ontario has enacted regulations regarding the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Recycling program. The objective of this study is to develop a novel scenario-based robust possibilistic approach to optimize and configure an electronic reverse logistics network by considering the uncertainty associated with fixed and variable costs, the quantity of demand and return, and the quality of returned products. A Monte Carlo simulation is utilized to analyze the performance of our proposed model. Then, ANOVA test is conducted to statistically verify our model using the simulation results. The mathematical model is extended to the multi-objective optimization by maximising the environmental compliance of the third parties. The efficient solutions of the multi-objective model are computed using the two-phase fuzzy compromise approach. To provide a comprehensive assessment of the problem under investigation, we provide sensitivity analyses on the impact of different factors (e.g., recovery rates, capacity of facilities) on the total expected profit. Several interesting results were obtained, including the fact that increasing the capacity of facilities does not automatically translate into higher profits. Furthermore, by comparing the efficient solutions of deterministic and robust modes, we illustrate the impact of robustness price on the multi-objective model. The application of the proposed model is illustrated using a network in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in Canada.
