Optimization of Square and Circular Ammonia-cooled Microchannel Heat Sink with genetic algorithm

Minimization of the thermal resistance and pressure drop of a microchannel heat sink is desirable for effective heat removal which is becoming a serious challenge due to the continuous miniaturization of such cooling systems with increasing high heat generation rate. Optimization of the hydraulic diameter and wall width to channel width ratio of square and circular microchannels to minimize the two objective functions was completed with the multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA). Environmentally friendly liquid ammonia was used as the coolant and the thermophysical properties have been obtained based on the average experimental saturation temperatures measured along an ammonia-cooled 3.0 mm internal diameter horizontal microchannel rig. The optimized results showed that with the same hydraulic diameter and pumping power, circular microchannels have lower thermal resistance. Based on the same number of microchannels per square cm, the thermal resistance for the circular channels is lower by 21% at the lowest pumping power and lower by 35% at the highest pumping power than the thermal resistance for the square microchannels. Results obtained at 10 °C and 5 °C showed no significant difference probably due to the slight difference in properties at these temperatures.

With the development of high-proportion renewable energy systems, the number of distributed nonlinear loads has been increasing, which causes a growing harmonic problem in the distribution network. In this situation, the traditional point-to-point harmonic compensation method is inefficient, since it needs to configure plenty of control equipment. This article presents a multi-objective optimal location algorithm of multiple shunt active power filters (SAPFs), considering that some harmonic sources are unknown in the distribution network. Firstly, based on the measurement equations, the least-square method is used to estimate the unmeasured power quality data, so as to improve the accuracy of the multi-bus harmonic mitigation model. Secondly, a multi-objective genetic algorithm is proposed for determining the Pareto-optimal set of the equipment layout to suppress multi-bus harmonic distortion. Finally, a standard IEEE-18 buses simulation model with 6 nonlinear loads is built to verify the proposed optimal location strategy. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can ensure that harmonic distortion indexes of each bus meet the recommended standards with few devices and total capacity. © 2023 IEEE.

In smart factories, process planning and scheduling need to be performed every time a new manufacturing order is received or a factory state change has been detected. A new plan and schedule need to be determined quickly to increase the responsiveness of the factory and enlarge its profit. Simultaneous optimisation of manufacturing process planning and scheduling leads to better results than a traditional sequential approach but is computationally more expensive and thus difficult to be applied to real-world manufacturing scenarios. In this paper, a working approach for cloud-based distributed optimisation of process planning and scheduling is presented. It executes a multi-objective genetic algorithm on multiple subpopulations (islands). The number of islands is automatically decided based on the current optimisation state. A number of test cases based on two real-world manufacturing scenarios are used to show the applicability of the proposed solution.

Cloud service providers usually utilize the resource in the data center to offer cloud computing service which needs to satisfy the demand of different customers. The load among the physical servers in the data center needs to be balanced to avoid hotspot and improve resource utility. In this paper we present a load balancing system and design an algorithm base on MOGA to get a new mapping relationship between physical machines and VMs. By a set of migrating operations of VMs the problem of load imbalance are solved. Through comprehensive simulations, the experimental results demonstrate that our proposed approaches can significantly improve the resource utilization when system load is stable variant.

This paper presents a path planning strategy for robotic manipulators based on genetic algorithms, dual quaternions and artificial potential field, designing a multi-objective function that allow trajectories be planned avoiding collisions in the workspace and singularity-free kinematic restrictions for manipulators as an optimization problem, satisfying position and orientation conditions. Its analysis is based on the problem of generating a trajectory followed by a sequence of coordinated movements capable of moving the manipulator to perform tasks in the workspace, the problem is not only generated these movements, but also implement strategies that define the path with tools that are easy to implement and avoid obstacles autonomously. Robot kinematics solved by dual quaternion can be used to combine translation with orientation on robotic manipulators in a systematic way, simplifying calculation operations compatible with conventional methods. The artificial potential field approach has been extended to collision avoidance for all manipulator links A genetic algorithm is used to solve the problem, which the fitness of the problem can be measured by a multi-objective function that involves the distance between the initial and desired position/orientation, minimum joint displacement, dual quaternion configuration, the use of attraction potential to the goal and a repulsion potential to the obstacles and its own links This method has been implemented in MatLab(C) for an ABB(C) IRB1600 robot. Collision avoidance demonstrations have been performed by simulating equipment and static objects in the robot's workspace.

This paper improves an existing Model Based Predictive Control Approach (MBPC), applied for Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) control in buildings. The existing approach uses the Predictive Mean Vote (PMV) to assess thermal comfort. It has been found that PMV estimation and forecasts deteriorate when the room is occupied. In order to solve this problem, we propose to incorporate measurements of activity inside the room in the predictive models of the inside air temperature. Another improvement to the existing approach is to use an economic cost function, reflecting the money needed for the HVAC control, instead of a cost function related with the consumption of energy.

The behavior of MENA oil and non-oil producing countries in international portfolio optimization

It is well documented in developed economies that portfolio investment across national borders brings benefits of increasing returns and/or reducing risk. Dividing MENA stock markets into two main groups (oil producing and non-oil producing countries), this study examines the potential role of each group in providing diversification benefits for international investors. In addition, the behavior of the long and the short-run Efficient Frontiers (EFs) constructed by each of the sub-groups and the combined MENA markets is explored. multi-objective international portfolio models are proposed under Mean-Variance and Mean-Lower Partial Moment frameworks, and the multiple Fitness Function genetic algorithm (MFFGA) is used to find the EFs of optimal portfolios. The findings indicate that the stock markets of oil producing countries can be considered as a potential avenue for international portfolio diversification for investors not only from the same countries but also from the other MENA markets. It was also found that international portfolios constructed from the combination of MENA equity markets are more stable compared to the portfolios of sub-group markets. Further, the findings indicate that the behavior of short-term EFs in the MENA region cannot be predicted by the behavior of long-term EFs. Starting from the hotspots of solid waste recycling and reuse, and considering the characteristics of waste transportation in eco-industrial symbiotic network, this paper takes the transportation and distribution process of waste and by-product recycling and reuse in upstream and downstream enterprise clusters as the research object. Different from the traditional transportation research which a single goal-oriented and multi-product independent, Considering model the economic cost performance and environmental performance, as well as the "transport price correlation" between various wastes, this paper constructs a multi-objective transport planning model of Interacted multi-product. Finally, on the basis of the multi-product and multiobjective model, the paper refers to the related method theory of the second generation fast non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) which based on the elite selection strategy. By carrying out calculation and result analysis on the basis of algorithm implementation, the paper verifies the effectiveness of the model and algorithm.

Variable-length codes are classically used for source coding to compress data. However, Variable-Length Error-Correcting (VLEC) codes can also be used for channel coding where they are able to overcome the effects of channel impairments by detecting and correcting bit errors. multi-objective optimization is an area of multiple criteria decision making, where an optimization algorithm attempts to solve a problem with more than one objective. In this paper, VLEC codes are constructed by taking into consideration their two main properties: Average Codeword Length and Free Distance, associated respectively with their source and channel coding aspects. These two properties are taken as objectives in a multi-objective global optimization genetic algorithm. It is shown that better codes can be constructed using this algorithm.

The design and optimisation of Energy Harvesting (EH) Micro-Electromechanical-Systems (MEMS) is of particular interest in this research. The application of such devices is becoming an attractive alternative to the traditional use of batteries in wireless and body sensor networks. An evolutionary multi-objective Design Optimisation (DO) Framework is developed to experiment with one class of EH-MEMS, namely, Piezoelectric, using a reconstructed analytical model of the system. The application of such a Framework in this application domain is unprecedented and has already shown very promising results and in some cases it outperformed the human engineer. A thorough analysis of the results has been undertaken, which reveals interesting conclusions about the behaviour and physics of such devices. Besides, the main features of the Framework are explored enabling the enhancement of the MEMS-DO.
