Municipal solid waste management (MSWM) has consistently improved to keep up with the vast amount of solid waste in urban and rural areas. Research on optimization for an efficient management system has a place for the collection, transportation and transfer of solid waste. Waste transfer optimization attempts to minimize the inconvenience and costs, which must transfer between waste generation source and waste disposal sites (WDSs). In this paper, a multi-objective linear programming Model for the Two-phase Waste Transfer System (MOLPMWTS) is assumed to be given, with which the two-phase waste transfer stations (WTSs) and motor carriers for waste transfer are take into account. And a two-phase waste transfer system in town of Guzhen, Zhongshan, China, is presented. The case showed a multi-objectives for numerical minimization of allocation of WTSs and transfer carriers.

A new single soft-fault diagnosis approach for analog circuit with parameter tolerance is proposed in this paper. The approach uses multi-objective linear programming (MLP) concept and fuzzy function together to diagnose the circuit under test. Node-voltage incremental equations, as constraints of MLP equation, are built based on the sensitivity analysis. Though evaluating the parameters deviations from the solution of the MLP equation and determining the deviation range using fuzzy function, it enable us to locate faulty components. Example illustrates the proposed approach and shows its effectiveness.

For benchmarking, a petroleum refining company is interested in how different market scenarios affect their competitors. This thesis is a feasibility study for the use of a multi-objective linear programming (MOLP) model for analyzing the impact of market prices on competing petroleum refineries. linear programming (LP) models are widely used for optimizing petroleum refin- ery operation. The existing LP models can be utilized in the design of a MOLP model which makes it a particuarly desired model type. MOLP is a method for solving linear problems where multiple conflicting objective functions are opti- mized simultaneously. In this case, the different objective functions depict the profits of competing companies. Since there are several decision makers, this problem is different from those that have been extensively studied in open liter- ature. In this thesis, a MOLP model labeled the Refinery Ranking Model (RRM) is de- signed. The user sets the market parameters for the RRM which then determines the optimal purchases and sales for each refining company. The results indicate that MOLP can be used to analyze the market dynamics of competing refining companies. The RRM could be expanded to include dozens of refineries and still describe their detailed behavior well and with a very reasonable solution time.

The distribution network with a large number of distributed generator (DG) puts forward higher requirements for coordinated control of voltage / reactive power. Secondary voltage control is an effective method to improve distribution network voltage level under the condition of high permeable DG. Based on the basic principle of the secondary voltage control, multi-objective linear programming method is used to solve the contradiction between the safety and the economy of the distribution network, and the optimization goal construction, control strategy selection and control process realization are introduced respectively. The simulation results show that the voltage stability of the distribution network with high permeable DG can be solved by the secondary voltage control based on the multi-objective programming..

Different industries compete to attract customers in different ways. In the field of production, group technology (GT) is defined by identifying and grouping similar parts based on their similarities in design and production. Cellular manufacturing (CM) is an application of GT to reconfigure the factory and job shop design. A manufacturing cell is a group of independent machines with different functions put together to produce a family of parts. Designing a cellular manufacturing system involves three major decisions: cell formation (CF), group layout (GL), and group scheduling (GS). Although these decisions are interrelated and can affect each other, they have been considered separately or sequentially in previous research. In this paper, CF, GL, and GS decisions are considered simultaneously. Accordingly, a multi-objective linear programming (MOLP) model is proposed to optimize weighted completion time, transportation cost, and machine idle time for a multi-product system. Finally, the model will be solved using the epsilon-constraint method, representing different scales solutions for decision-making. The proposed model is NP-hard. Therefore, a nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II) is presented to solve it since GAMS software is unable to find optimal solutions for large-scale problems. Besides, to evaluate the performance of NSGA-II, the problem is solved by three metaheuristic algorithms.

In the increasingly complex electromagnetic environment, a variety of new signal types are appearing;however, existing electromagnetic signal classification (ESC) models cannot handle new signal types. In this context, the emergence of class-incremental learning aims to incrementally update the classification model as new categories emerge. In this paper, an electromagnetic signal classification framework based on class exemplar selection and a multi-objective linear programming classifier (CES-MOLPC) is proposed in order to continuously learn new classes in an incremental manner. Specifically, our approach involves the adaptive selection of class exemplars considering normalized mutual information and a multi-objective linear programming classifier. The former is used to maintain the classification capability of the model for previous categories by selecting key samples, while the latter is used to allow the model to adapt quickly to new categories. Meanwhile, a weighted loss function based on cross-entropy and distillation loss is presented in order to fine-tune the model. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed CES-MOLPC method through extensive experiments on the public RML2016.04c data set and the large-scale real-world ACARS signal data set. The results of the comparative experiments demonstrate that our method can achieve significant improvements over state-of-the-art methods.

Optimization of hydraulic fracturing wastewater management alternatives: A hybrid multi-objective linear programming model

Production of high volumes of wastewater by hydraulic fracturing operations is a challenging issue in the unconventional gas industry in North America. A scheduling-based solution is required to optimally manage the produced wastewater. This study develops a novel, hybrid, multi-objective linear programming model to optimize hydraulic fracturing wastewater management alternatives. Minimizing overall wastewater treatment cost, environmental impacts, and undesirable deviations from different goals were simultaneously considered the main objectives of the system. The model used data from a case example operating for 31 weeks, and it determined the volume of wastewater and treated water over all periods. The results indicated that onsite treatment is the best possible alternative for reuse in subsequent fracking, in those weeks in which all constraints were satisfied. Offsite treatment was the second ranking alternative when the volume of wastewater was higher than the capacity of onsite treatment, and deep well injection was the result when no water was needed for subsequent fracking. A sensitivity analysis was conducted by weighting the objectives to express their importance levels. Compared to other objectives, environmental impact had greater effect on the selection of the optimal alternatives over each period. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In this paper we consider a production plan optimization problem for a company that produces textile products. The problem is solved using two iterative methods: a new method based on the cooperative game theory (MP method) and the well-known STEM method. Their application efficiency and the solutions obtained are compared. For this purpose we use four groups of criteria: (1) the general characteristics of the method (2) the criteria from the standpoint of the decision makers, (3) the criteria from the perspective of the analysts, and (4) the 'economic' criteria. The analysis indicates that both methods are highly efficient for solving this kind of production plan optimization problems. However, the decision-makers preferred the MP method.
