A mathematical model for solving fully fuzzy linear programming problem with trapezoidal fuzzy numbers

In this paper, an efficient method is introduced to solve fully fuzzy linear programming problems. The proposed method is derived from the multi-objective linear programming problem and lexicographic ordering method. Theoretical analysis for the proposed method has been provided. Moreover, some numerical experiments are given to show the preference of the proposed methods and are compared with some available methods.

In this article, we address a fully fuzzy triangular linear fractional programming (FFLFP) problem under the condition that all the parameters and decision variables are characterized by triangular fuzzy numbers. Utilizing the computation of triangular fuzzy numbers and Lexicographic order (LO), the FFLFP problem is changed over to a multi-objective function. Consequently, the problem is changed into a multi-objective crisp problem. This paper outfits another idea for diminishing the computational complexity, in any case without losing its viability crisp LFP issues. Lead from real-life problems, a couple of mathematical models are considered to survey the legitimacy, usefulness and applicability of our method. Finally, some mathematical analysis along with one case study is given to show the novel strategies are superior to the current techniques.

This work develops a possibilistic programming approach to solve imprecise project network scheduling (PNS) problems with multiple goals. The imprecise multi-objective PNS model designed here attempts to minimize total project costs and total completion time with reference to direct costs, indirect costs, contractual penalty costs, duration of activities and the constraint of available cost budget. An industrial case is used to demonstrate the feasibility of applying the proposed approach to real-life PNS problems. Several significant managerial implications for practical application of the proposed approach are also presented. The important contribution of this work lies in presenting a possibilistic mathematical programming methodology for solving the practical multi-objective PNS problems.

TWO INNOVATIVE COALITION FORMATION MODELS FOR DYNAMIC TASK ALLOCATION IN DISASTER RESCUES

This paper addresses the problem of multi-objective coalition formation for task allocation. In disaster rescue, due to the dynamics of environments, heterogeneity and complexity of tasks as well as limited available agents, it is hard for the single-objective and single （task）-to-single （agent） task allocation approaches to handle task allocation in such circumstances. To this end, two multi-objective coalition formation for task allocation models are proposed for disaster rescues in this paper. First, through coalition formation, the proposed models enable agents to cooperatively perform complex tasks that cannot be completed by single agent. In addition, through adjusting the weights of multiple task allocation objectives, the proposed models can employ the linear programming to generate more adaptive task allocation plans, which can satisfy different task allocation requirements in disaster rescue. Finally, through employing the multi-stage task allocation mechanism of the dynamic programming, the proposed models can handle the dynamics of tasks and agents in disaster environments. Experimental results indicate that the proposed models have good performance on coalition formation for task allocation in disaster environments, which can generate suitable task allocation plans according to various objectives of task allocation.

A heuristic algorithm for master planning that satisfies multiple objectives

This study proposes a heuristic algorithm, called the multi-objective master planning algorithm (MOMPA), to solve master planning (MP) problems for a supply chain network with multiple finished products. MOMPA has three objectives: to minimize delay penalties, to minimize use of outsourcing capacity, and to minimize the costs of materials, production, processing, transportation, and inventory holding-all while respecting the capacity limitations and the demand deadlines of all those involved in a given supply chain network. MOMPA plans each demand, one by one, without backtracking, and sorts those demands using a sorting mechanism that is part of the algorithm. For each demand, the minimum production cost tree is determined within the limits of the time bucket for the demand deadline. The maximum available capacity of this tree is then computed for the "no delay" case. Following this calculation, the delay-or-not criterion is evaluated to determine whether or not further delay is necessary. MOMPA compares the results of these two procedures and allocates the appropriate capacities to the demand for all the nodes on the selected tree. If the minimum cost production tree has no available capacity, MOMPA adjusts the network and looks for a new tree. With complexity and computational analysis, MOMPA is shown to be very efficient in solving NIP problems, sometimes generating the same optimal solution as the LP model. (C) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. Patients' satisfaction: The medical appointments valence in Portuguese public hospitals

Measuring patients' satisfaction in secondary health care-based medical appointment services is a rarely addressed, though a very important, task. In general, this task is devoted to the emergency room. Improving (other) areas where patients are mostly dissatisfied assumes a relevant role since in Beveridge-based health systems providers are mainly financed through taxes. This paper aims to evaluate the satisfaction of Portuguese patients with reference to the national health system and public hospital medical appointment services, as well as to identify main priority areas of low performance. Data is collected from a report created and made available overtly by an official entity, managed by the Ministry of Health. Data consists of frequencies of patients assessing their own satisfaction (in four levels) regarding a set of seven criteria, five of them split into several subcriteria. These ones were selected based on their availability, suitability, and the literature review, and aimed to characterize the hospitals' medical appointments valence concerning their image, cleanliness, facilities quality, technological progress, staff professional competence and care, as well as the waiting time in different stages before and after the medical appointment. This paper makes use of the so-called multicriteria Satisfaction Analysis (MUSA) method, which is a very useful linear programming model developed and used with the intention of analyzing customer satisfaction and identifying priorities to improve the provider's performance. Since data consists of frequencies in four satisfaction levels for a set of criteria and subcriteria, simulated patients were used based on a bootstrap-based technique, admitting independence between criteria/subcriteria. MUSA results allow the clustering of criteria according to Kano's model and its refined version (must-be, one-dimension and attractive requirements), upon which satisfaction improving strategies must be formulated. To meet green supply chain management's requirements of a company and its transportation service providers (TSPs), it is essential to set clear, achievable, and realistic targets. This paper proposes two data envelopment analysis (DEA) approaches to find targets for two-stage network structures. The objective of proposed approaches is to plan in feasible region. The feasible region specifies bounds to ensure targets are within current operational capacity of TSPs. Applying the approaches to set targets for 24 TSPs lead to different results. Impact of harmonised common balancing capacity procurement in selected Central European electricity balancing markets

Contrary to the U.S., where the Independent System Operator is responsible for electricity balancing, in Europe this is the task of Transmission System Operators. Also in terms of market implementation there are fundamental differences between the U.S. (co-optimisation of day-ahead and balancing/ancillary markets) and Europe (separate bidding and clearing in different market segments). This paper focuses on European electricity markets, where recently the framework for upcoming challenges in electricity balancing has been defined ("Network Code on Electricity Balancing"). In detail, different possible (cross-border) balancing market designs in Europe are evaluated using the model EDisOn + Balancing. We focus on the procurement of up- and downward balancing capacity products (conducted jointly or separately), and how common procurement of frequency restoration reserves influences wholesale electricity market clearings. Different timings and lead-times for the procurement of automatically activated frequency restoration reserve are investigated, starting from weekly off-peak and peak products, leading to daily four-hour products. The quantitative results confirm that in addition to asymmetric procurement of up- and downward balancing capacity, common procurement has significant advantages in terms of cost reductions. The shortening of balancing product timings supports the integration of renewable electricity generation essentially. To achieve these positive effects, the first focus should be on harmonising national balancing markets Europewide. A best practise case is the pilot project between Germany and Austria: the two countries have already started common activation of automatic frequency restoration reserve and there are plans for future common procurements.

Integrated model for renewable energy planning in Turkey

All economic sectors are associated with energy use;therefore, government organizations aim to supply sustainable energy for human needs and economic growth. In particular, increased environmental concerns of the public in Turkey have impacted policymaking for renewable energy (RE) management in Turkey. The primary objective for RE sources of the Turkish Ministry of Energy is to ensure that 30% of the share of electricity production is from RE resources in 2023. In this paper, the integrated multi-objective, multi-period linear programming model is presented to determine effective allocation of RE supply for seven different geographical regions in Turkey for the period of 2017 to 2024. The integrated model consists of two different stages. The first stage involves qualitative evaluations of RE sources for seven geographical regions. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is applied to determine criteria priorities and overall ratings of geographical regions across determined criteria for RE sources are computed. The second stage of the integrated model consists of a multi-objective, multi-period linear programming model. The proposed multi-objective linear programming model is coded in MPL (Mathematical programming Language) and solved using the GUROBI 5.1.0 solver. The output of the integrated model presents the total supply amount of RE sources for geographical regions in planning period. The epsilon-constraints method is applied to compute the total supply amount of RE from geographical regions for the period of 2017 to 2024. In this study, a systematic decision-making model is generated to allocate renewable energy sources to the geographical regions. The presented model integrates qualitative evaluations and quantitative parameters of different geographical regions to determine the optimal supply amount of RE. The obtained results are consistent with the potential quantities of RE alternatives in geographical regions, regional specifications, and social requirement

An efficient algorithm for bi-objective combined heat and power production planning under the emission trading scheme

The growing environmental awareness and the apparent conflicts between economic and environmental objectives turn energy planning problems naturally into multi-objective optimization problems. In the current study, mixed fuel combustion is considered as an option to achieve tradeoff between economic objective (associated with fuel cost) and emission objective (measured in CO2 emission cost according to fuels and emission allowance price) because a fuel with higher emissions is usually cheaper than one with lower emissions. Combined heat and power (CHP) production is an important high-efficiency technology to promote under the emission trading scheme. In CHP production, the production planning of both commodities must be done in coordination. A long-term planning problem decomposes into thousands of hourly subproblems. In this paper, a bi-objective multi-period linear programming CHP planning model is presented first. Then, an efficient specialized merging algorithm for constructing the exact Pareto frontier (PF) of the problem is presented. The algorithm is theoretically and empirically compared against a modified dichotomic search algorithm. The efficiency and effectiveness of the algorithm is justified. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd.
