Batch preparation of multi-parameter sensor for online and in-situ monitoring of tap water

The safety of drinking water is the most basic safeguard for the human survival. In-situ and on-line monitoring of tap water is considered an effective method to reduce the harm of tap water pollution, caused by pipeline rupture or leakage. However, a sensing device of the quality of tap water with the characteristic of anti-cross interference, in-situ, batch-fabrication always is a challenge issue. In this paper, a multi-parameter integrated micronano sensor, monitoring six key daily inspection indicators, is designed and prepared by MEMS technology on silicon substrate. By fabricating an all solid thin-film Ag/AgCl reference electrode, employing electrochemical stable/active Pt/Au/PbO2/IrO2 as the working/counter electrode and verified the effectiveness of as-fabricated sensor by pH/COD/Free Chlorine/Conductivity/Temperature detection, the sensor demonstrates acceptable limit of detection, desirable linearity and competitive accuracy. In addition, a miniature turbidity sensor is fixed on another side of the substrate, which can accurately distinguish turbidity changes of 0.1 NTU in the range of 0-1 NTU in dark environments. Particularly, a flow velocity detection unit is fabricated to avoid the data deviation by water flow fluctuation. By placing the electrode array in a tiny area (17x19x0.6 mm), a significant improvement in data accuracy is discovered for 9 % after cross interference compensation. Finally, a circuit system is developed to assist as-proposed sensor in online and continuous monitoring of the tap water in pipeline. So, the interesting sensing behavior indicate that this work developed a competitive device for tap water online monitoring in pipeline.

Distributed multi-parameter sensor based on Brillouin scattering in an etched few-mode multi-core fiber

We theoretically propose a unique distributed multi-parameter sensor based on an etched few-mode multi-core fiber (FM-MCF) for simultaneous sensing of temperature, strain, and sample refractive index (SRI). These three parameters can be sensed simultaneously by combining space division multiplexing (SDM) and stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS). FM-MCF naturally contains an inner core and an outer core, and it is etched until the outer core is exposed. Therefore, the inner core can be employed to calculate the Brillouin gain spectrum (BGS) of LP01 and LP11 through distributed temperature and strain, and the outer core can be used to sense SRI through the BGS of LP01. Note that due to the high corrosion of the outer core, the higher order mode is cut off, so only the LP01 mode can be observed in the outer core. By demodulating the Brillouin frequency shift (BFS) of the BGS in the outer core and the inner core, the proposed sensor has a maximum temperature sensitivity of 1.7220 MHz/ degrees C, a maximum strain sensitivity of 0.0783 MHz/mu epsilon, and an SRI sensitivity of 274.3245 MHz/RIU around 1.440 RI unit (RIU). Therefore, we show a new perspective for discriminative sensing of multi-parameter in Brillouin distributed sensors based on SDM. The developed multifunctional fiber sensor could find application in the field of environmental sensing, materials science, biomedical applications, and structural health monitoring.

A multi -parameter sensor based on cascaded multi -core fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) is proposed. The sensor consists of a single -mode fiber (SMF), a four -core fiber (FCF), and a hollow fiber (HCF) filled with polydimethylsiloxane. The HCF is fused at the end of the FCF to form an FPI. Through thermal diffusion technology (TDT), the all -fiber single -channel measurement of the sensor is realized. The FCF FBGs have a maximum sensitivity of 96.33 pm/m-1 for vector bending and 9.8 pm/degrees C for temperature. The FPI is capable of measuring temperature and pressure with sensitivities of 1621.2 pm/degrees C and 6500.0 pm/MPa, respectively. Consequently, a set of wavelength shift equations is derived to simultaneously measure vector bending, temperature, and pressure. The proposed multi -parameter sensor offers the advantages of high integration and reduced cross -talk, making it a promising candidate for applications such as environmental monitoring, structural health monitoring, and wearable artificial electronics.

Highly sensitive push-pull differential pressure sensor with multi-parameter measurement capabilities

A multi-parameter sensor comprising of a Fabry-Perot (FP) pair and a fiber-optic FP microcavity was proposed for simultaneous measurement of differential pressure (DP), static pressure (SP) and temperature. The push-pull FP pair is used to measure the differential pressure, and wide measurement range can be achieved by adjusting the dimensions of the diaphragm. The self-enclosed fiber-optic microcavity is utilized to measure the static pressure. For multi-parameter measurement, a matrix equation is proposed to solve the differential pressure, static pressure and temperature by fully considering the relationship of the FP cavity lengths and measurands. The performance of multi-parameter sensing is verified experimentally. The sensitivities of differential pressure, static pressure and temperature are 294.4822 nm/KPa, 353.08 nm/MPa and 42.4056 nm/degrees C, respectively, in variation of cavity lengths. The sensing characteristics show good linearity. Such a sensor could find important applications in the fields of process industry and oil industry, etc.

Surface Acoustic Wave sensor for Selective multi-parameter Measurements in Cardiac Magnetic Field Detection

Measuring parameters like heart temperature, heart rate, and cardiac magnetic field aids in analyzing cardiac health and disease. A multi-parameter sensor tailored to the heart can significantly enhance convenience in medical diagnosis and treatment. This work introduces a multi-parameter sensor based on Surface Acoustic Wave sensors (SAWSs) and magnetostrictive materials, designed to selectively measure various cardiac parameters. SAWSs are characterized by their compact dimensions, which facilitate integration into various medical devices. The wireless and passive characteristics of the sensors enable flexibility in the detection process. This sensor can detect various common physical quantities like weak magnetic fields by the control variable method, ensuring a high degree of accuracy. The working mode of SAWSs is investigated in this study, and the relationship curve concerning various influencing factors is established.

Characteristic Analysis of a Chipless RFID sensor Based on multi-parameter Sensing and an Intelligent Detection Method

Chipless radio frequency identification (RFID) technology has been widely used in the field of structural health monitoring (SHM), but most of the current research mainly focuses on the detection of mechanical properties and there are few studies on the multi-physical parameters (for example, temperature and humidity) in the climatic environment around the structure. Thus, it is necessary to design a small and compact sensor for multi-parameter detection. This paper proposes a multi-parameter chipless RFID sensor based on microstrip coupling, which supports 4-bit ID code and integrates two detection functions of temperature and humidity. Through linear normalization fitting, the sensitivity of the sensor is about 2.18 MHz/RH in the ambient relative humidity test and the sensitivity of the sensor is about 898.63 KHz/degrees C in the experimental test of water bath heating from 24.6 degrees C to 75 degrees C. In addition, this paper proposes an engineering application detection method, designs a lightweight dynamic spectrum detection and wireless transmission platform based on a lightweight vector network analyzer (VNA) and realizes the real-time extraction and transmission of RFID spectrum sensing data. The means are more flexible and economical than traditional experimental scenarios.

A multi-parameter on-chip impedance sensor for the detection of particle contamination in hydraulic oil

A multi-parameter sensor based on microfluidic chip is presented. The sensor consists of a planar coil and a metal wire inserted into the center hole of coil. It can be used as an inductive sensor or capacitive sensor, so multiple parameters can be detected on one sensor. The vertical channel effectively prevents the clogging of the microchannel, reducing the detection error and improving the service life of the detection chip. The related experiments were carried out on the built detection system, which proved the annular microchannel can force that the metal particles pass through the most sensitive region, therefore the sensitivity of inductance detection is enhanced. And the cross-sectional area of the microchannel increases, so the throughput is higher. For the inductance detection, the signal-to-noise ratio initially increases with the coil turns, but then it has a tendency to decrease. For the capacitance detection, the signal-to-noise ratio decreases with the coil layers. We used the coil with 40 turns, which can ensure the detection sensitivity of the inductance detection and the capacitance detection, to explore the floor level of chip. We successfully detected 40 mu m iron particles, 125 mu m copper particles, 60 mu m water droplets and 120 mu m air bubbles. (C) 2019 Published by Elsevier B.V.

The Performance of Partial Least Squares Methods in Virtual Nanosensor Array-multiple Metal Ions Sensing Based on multispectral Fluorescence of Quantum Dots

The design of chemical sensors and probes is usually based on selective receptors for individual analytes, however, many analytical tasks are dedicated to multi-analyte sensing or recognizing properties of the sample related to more than one analyte. While it is possible to simultaneously use multiple sensors/receptors in such cases, multi-responsive probes could be an attractive alternative. In this work, we use thiomalic acid-capped CdTe quantum dots as a multiple-response receptor for the detection and quantification of six heavy metal cations: Ag(I), Cd(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), and Pb(II) at micromolar concentration levels. multiplexing is realized via multispectral fluorescence (so-called virtual sensor array). For such a sensing strategy, the effective decoding of the excitation-emission spectrum is essential. Herein, we show how various parameters of chemometric analysis by the Partial Least Squares method, such as preprocessing type and data structure, influence the performance of discrimination and quantification of the heavy metals. The established models are characterized by respective performance metrics (accuracy, sensitivity, precision, specificity/RMSE, a, b, R2) determined for both train and test sets in replicates, to obtain reliable and repeatable results.

In this work we present a novel fiber wavelength notch filter induced by femtosecond laser point-by-pointtechnique. The filter consists of a pair of slightly shifted grating inscribed around a fiber taper. Such a structureoffers similar properties as that of phase shifted Bragg grating, but with more facile fabrication process. Moreinterestingly, simultaneous modulation of peak position and bandwidth can be easily realized.
