multicast heuristic algorithms are currently the field of interest for networks researchers. The optimization analysis of fast algorithms is performed using random and heuristic networks (graphs). This theoretical work approaches problem of constructing trees between the sender and group of receivers in real computer networks. The paper presents basic methods of generating the Internet topology on graph level -Waxman method and the Barabasi-Albert method. A performance study of multicast trees constructed by the algorithms is carried out and analysed, also with the heuristic network generator -Inet.

QoS multicast routing problem is a nonlinear combination optimization problem, which has been proved to be a NP complete problem. a hybrid algorithm with ant colony optimization algorithm(ACO) and particle a warm optimization algorithm(PSO) is presented. The ACO-GA algorithm absorbs the merits of ACO and GA respectively. In hybrid algorithm, the position update of PSO is used to regulate the solution generated by ACO, which can make the current solution cross with current best solution of the paricle and current best solution of all partiles respectively. In additional, the strategy of the position update in PSO is motified by some re-defined arithmetic operators. The results of test show that the hybrid algorithm can meet QoS contraints of multicast routing problem excellently, and has better performance in finding global best solution.

As the fast growth in the development of the related technologies, IEEE 802.11-based wireless mesh networks (WMNs) will be widely deployed as the access networks in community or campus environments. In this kind of WMNs, the playback of multicast streaming video (such as IPTV) could be discontinued due to the handoff process of the mobile stations. In this paper, practical system architecture for providing multicast streaming video services with a novel mechanism to achieve seamless playback during the handoff process is proposed. In the proposed mechanism, a handoff decision algorithm, instead of the traditional method using RSSI, is proposed to reduce the bandwidth overhead in forwarding video stream data. The simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Recently there has been an effort to build scalable and reliable application-level multicast solutions that combine the resilience of pure gossip-based with the efficiency of tree-based schemes. However, such solutions assume that participants have unlimited resources, for instance, that they can send an unbounded number of messages to mask network omissions. Such scenario is not realistic, specially for streaming protocols, where messages can be transmitted at a very high rate and have a small temporal validity. In this paper, we propose RASM, a scalable distributed protocol for application-level multicast. Our protocol is based on the combination of gossip-based and tree-based multicast schemes. Unlike previous approaches, which strive to combine gossip-based and tree-based schemes, our solution takes into consideration the reliability of components: nodes and communication links can fail, unexpectedly, ceasing their operation and dropping messages, respectively. Experimental results show that our scheme offers better reliability than previous solutions with low overhead.

In this study, to deal with mixed uni- and multicast traffic, we propose an efficient buffered crossbar switching architecture called MQ-SCPX switch. Based on a guess to the load share percentage of the mixed uni- and multicast traffic, the need of buffering resource for unicast traffic might be lower, while the multicast traffic becomes more. The MQ-SCPX switch is separated into one unicast section and one multicast section, respectively. To ease off the effectiveness of the multicast HOL blocking problem, we adopt multiple buffers for each input port in the multicast section. Also, to reduce the memory size of the buffered crossbar, we use a shared memory mechanism for the buffered crossbar. Simulations under different proportions of unicast to multicast traffic have been done to evaluate system performance. The simulation results show that the MQ-SCPX switch can achieve dramatic service quality for multicast applications and has great capability to supports both unicast and multicast services.

A Mobile ad hoc network is a collection of wireless nodes that dynamically organize themselves to form a network without the need for any fixed infrastructure or centralized administration. The network topology dynamically changes frequently in an unpredictable manner since nodes are free to move. Support for multicasting is essential in such environment as it is considered to be an efficient way to deliver information from source nodes to many client nodes. A problem with multicast routing algorithms is their efficiency as their forwarding structure determines the overall network resource consumption makes them significantly less efficient than unicast routing algorithms. In this research, we improve the performance of the popular ODMRP multicast routing protocol by restricting the domain of join query packets, which have been lost. This is achieved by augmenting the join query packets with minimum extra information (one field), which denotes the number of the visited node from previous forwarding group. Simulation results show, that our mechanisms significantly reduce the control traffic and thus the overall latency and power consumption in the network.

In this paper, mobile multicast mechanism based on IEEE 802.21 MIH (Media Independent Handover) for efficient network resource usage is proposed. Proposed mechanism supports the efficiency of network resource usage and fast multicast handover. The proposed architecture adopts multicast manager concept to MIH framework in order to efficiently perform mobile multicast handover, and adds the new MIH messages dedicated for mobile multicast. multicast network selection algorithm is designed by means of terminal speed and fair selection algorithm named AHP/GRA. Finally we compare the performance of the proposed mechanism with the legacy mobile multicast mechanism.

Lifetime of multicast connection in a wireless ad-hoc network is constrained by routing topology as well as mobility, interference, noise and battery capacity. In order to optimize the multicast lifetime, a series of routing algorithms and cognitive network models with directional antennas have been proposed. However, these methods can only reach a sub-optimal level. In this paper, we propose an additional search in a specific beamwidth space. Simulation results show that the Beamwidth Scanning algorithm can pick up routing topologies which correspond to improved multicast lifetime.

Sharing communications are not easy to do in the mobility networks (MONETs) for the limited bandwidth and the overhead of tunneling. multicast is an intuitive method to solve this problem. To improve the performance, the multicast topology should be redesigned for the MONETs. We proposed an efficient communication algorithm with multicast schemes in a network mobility (NEMO) environment. The Mobile Router Forwarding Scheme (MRFS) algorithm is proposed for this goal. We can find that MRFS can reduce the storage cost for every Mobile Router (MR) especially in the TLMR (Top level MR).
