Distributed Multi-party/Multi-stream systems require a multicast subnetwork capable of satisfying QoS constraints such as delay and delay variation bound so that the messages reach each destination node at almost the same time within a certain specified time limit. In addition, certain multi-stream systems also demand that different streams for each different destination node should reach with minimum delay variation. So, we propose the problem of minimizing both inter-destination and intra-destination delay variation along with the maximum delay bound and present efficient heuristic solution that achieves the tightest possible combined bound. This problem is NP-complete as shown in the literature. Computer simulation results approve that our heuristic is efficient with a low running time and the tightest combined delay variation.

In wireless mesh networks, each node can be equipped with multiple network interface cards tuned to different channels. In this paper, we study the problem of collision-free multicast in multi-interface multi-channel wireless mesh networks. The concept of interface redundancy's proposed as a new criterion for the multicast redundancy in wireless mesh networks, and we prove that building a multicast tree with the minimum interface redundancy is a NPhard problem. We also prove that the minimum-latency multicasting problem in multi-channel wireless mesh networks is NP-hard. We present two heuristic-based algorithms which jointly reduce the interface redundancy and the multicast latency. Finally, the simulation results prove the effectiveness of our approach.

Research on streaming media data distribution via Peer-to-peer (P2P) application layer multicast (ALM) network is popular these years. This paper presents an unstructured P2P overlay which is used in the Banacast system. It analyzes which architecture could be taken use of in the P2P live streaming system, how to speed up the progress of joining P2P network with some strategies and algorithms, how Banacast to build a stable ALM network by its fast adaptive diffuse algorithm and node evaluate method. Experimental results show that Banacast system is able to provide large-scale concurrent users the high-quality video streaming services with a relatively lower hardware and bandwidth resource.

The large-scale increase of multicast state is the major factor preventing the wide application of multicast when there are a large number of multicast groups in the network. As a new technology of reducing forwarding states of multicast state, aggregated multicast aims to enable the multicast groups that can be integrated in the network to share one distribution tree, which reduces the number of multicast trees, thus leading to the reduction of forwarding states and improvement of network performance. A modified genetic algorithm is proposed in this paper to optimize aggregated multicast problem. Simulation results indicate that network performance is improved greatly when applying this algorithm.

A major aspect of mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is that the nodes move randomly, which requires the routing protocols in ad-hoc network to quickly respond to the network topology change in order to guarantee successful data packet delivery. MAODV (multicast ad hoc on-demand distance vector) routing protocol provides fast and efficient route establishment between mobile nodes that need to communicate with each other in MANET. MAODV has minimal control overhead and route acquisition latency. In addition to unicast routing, MAODV supports multicast and broadcast as well. In this paper, we present an entropy-based long-life multicast routing protocol in MAODV (EMAODV). The key idea of EMAODV algorithm is to construct the new metric-entropy and select the long-life multicast routing with the help of entropy metric to reduce the number of route reconstruction in MANET. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach and parameters provide an accurate and efficient method of estimating and evaluating the route stability in dynamic mobile networks.

The original core-based multicast routing protocols construct the shortest paths between the core and the members in a multicast group without considering the quality-of-service (QoS) requirement. Providing quality-of-service guarantees in core-based multicast routing technique is a key issue for deploying multimedia applications. To support QoS, we need to find an optimal path among all end-to-end feasible paths satisfying multiple QoS constraints (e.g., bandwidth, delay, jitter, packet loss, etc.) This problem is called heuristic multi-constrained optimal path (H_MCOP). In this research, we propose a new heuristic, based on H_MCOP, namely H_MCCBT, for providing multi- constrained QoS in core-based tree technique. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can provide QoS guarantees for deploying QoS-aware applications. Specifically, it can provide average throughput and average end-to-end delay better than that of Core-based Tree constructed by the original algorithm with Non-QoS requirement.

We consider the problem of minimizing the number of network coding nodes in a multicast scenario, with the purpose of minimizing the overall encoding cost. We give a heuristic polynomial-time algorithm to approximate the minimum number of network coding nodes required to reach a given flow rate and show that it performs well in practice when the number of receivers is small. We also find that many topologies do not require any network coding nodes to reach the maximum achievable throughput.

As multicasting is increasingly used as an efficient communication mechanism for group-oriented applications in the Internet, the research of the multicast key management is becoming a hot issue. Firstly, we analyze the n -party GDH.2 multicast key management protocol and point out that it has the following flaws: lack of certification, vulnerability to man-in-the-middle attacks, and a single-point failure. In order to settle the issues mentioned above, a fault-tolerant and secure multicast key management protocol (FTS, for short) with using the fault-tolerant algorithm and the password authentication mechanism is proposed in this paper. In our protocol, legal members are able to agree on a key despite failures of other members. The protocol can also prevent man-in-the-middle attacks. Finally, we evaluate the security of FTS, and compare our protocol with the FTKM through performance analysis. The analytic results show that the protocol not only avoids the single-point failure but also improves the comprehensive performance.

In this paper describes the parallel media stream server and a control node consists of multiple storage nodes to accommodate files for multimedia data transmission service. In the general streaming service, users can endure the small amount of time delay at the beginning of service. The parallel media streaming technology will invite a better operating price, stability, and better performance than existing products offering similar services for concurrent users. Nevertheless, too much wait time still induces delay. This limitation must be addressed. This research proposes implementing an environment offering parallel media stream servers by applying an algorithm based on overlay multicast services. The algorithm is vital, because it limits the users based on the flexibility and scalability. This could greatly improve system performance. If the proposed technique is applied for the service of multimedia files, and analyzed for storage nodes, and number of concurrent system users, Our analysis results show that proposed scheme can support more efficient than conventional streaming and the network delay for the parallel media stream service.
