We investigate the challenging problem of enabling multicast video service in emerging cognitive radio (CR) networks. We propose a cross-layer optimization approach to multicast video in CR networks. Specifically, we model CR video multicast as an optimization problem, while considering important design factors including scalable video coding, video rate control, spectrum sensing, dynamic spectrum access, modulation, scheduling, retransmission, and primary user protection. The objective is to optimize the overall received video quality as well as achieving proportional fairness among multicast users, while keeping the interference to primary users below a prescribed threshold. Although the problem can be solved using advanced optimization techniques, we propose a sequential fixing algorithm and a greedy algorithm with low complexity and proven optimality gap. Our simulations using MPEG-4 fine grained scalability (FGS) demonstrate the efficacy and superior performance of the proposed approach as compared with an alternative equal allocation scheme.

multicast is widely applied for multimedia communications in Internet. The effective multicast routing is the key technology to the communications. The Qos of multi-constrained multicast routing problem deserves more attention. The objective function is to minimize the cost and meet multiple constraints to realize high Qos. The solutions' fitness is obtained by the concentration mechanism of immune algorithm and the affinity is helpful to the probability update strategy. The node linkage which belongs to the excellent solution has greater probability to be chosen. During the evolutionary process of the algorithm the constraint equation is dynamic adjusted to avoid unnecessary search and shorten the search time. Each invalid path is recorded into the Tabu table as a constraint to guide the next iteration. The heuristic Immune-PBIL algorithm is tested on a network topology and some multicast routing demand is considered. The result also shows that the advanced evolutionary strategies according to the Qos are high efficient and the global search capability is improved.

Nowadays, in MPSoCs and NoCs, multicast protocol is significantly used for many parallel applications such as cache coherency in distributed shared-memory architectures, clock synchronization, replication, or barrier synchronization. Among several multicast schemes proposed in on chip interconnection networks, path-based multicast scheme has been proven to be more efficient than the tree-based, and unicast-based. In this paper a low distance path-based multicast scheme is proposed. The proposed method takes advantage of the network partitioning, and utilizing of an efficient destination ordering algorithm. The results in performance, and power consumption show that the proposed method outstands the previous on chip path-based multicasting algorithms.

In distributed interactive applications (DIAs) embedded priority, the sender node forwards data to receivers due to their respective priorities. One application level multicast protocol: the priority-based directed minimum spanning tree (PST) was designed for these DIAs. However, the existing PST has no efficient priority selection mechanism and the system consumes a tremendous amount of resource and becomes unstable and unscalable when its size increases. In this paper we propose a novel application level multicast algorithm: predict-and-quantize for priority with directed minimum spanning tree (PQPST), which can efficiently predict priorities for the receivers and quantize the predicted priorities to build a multicast distribution tree. Furthermore, PQPST can easily integrate the quantized priority into game environment and simplify priority deployment. The simulation results show that PQPST is able to efficiently make priority selection and keep system stable with reasonable scalability.

This paper proposes a tabu search (TS) based optimization approach to search a minimum-interference multicast tree which satisfies the end-to-end delay constraint and optimizes the usage of the scarce radio network resource in wireless mesh networks. The path-oriented encoding method is adopted and each candidate solution is represented by a tree data structure (i.e., a set of paths). Since we expect the multicast trees on which the minimum-interference channel assignment can be produced, a fitness function that returns the total channel conflict is devised. The techniques for controlling the tabu search procedure are well developed. A simple yet effective channel assignment algorithm is proposed to reduce the channel conflict. Simulation results show that the proposed TS multicast algorithm can produce the multicast trees which have better performance in terms of both the total channel conflict and the tree cost than that of a well known multicast algorithm in wireless mesh networks.

We consider the problem of incentive compatible topology control for selfish all-to-one (reverse multicast) routing as modeled by a locally minimum cost forwarding game, with new focus in this work on efficient local implementability in the absence of complete global information for realistic scenarios. In this work we consider a new locally computable heuristic ¿recommendation algorithm¿, which we refer to as LocalHeur for convenience. LocalHeur lies within the class of location based routing methods with particular similarity to the Nearest Forward Progress algorithm though from the perspective of game-theoretic reverse multicast routing. We find that LocalHeur actually outperforms DeltaHeur in terms of global optimality in random Euclidean power instances which model wireless networks, though at the expense of loosening the Nash equilibrium condition. Nonetheless, we find that the relaxation of the Nash condition is strongly bounded in multiple ways, with high probability: The vast majority of players are provably playing a best response, while simulation results demonstrate that the average deviation ratio from a best response is within a decimal point of 1. Furthermore, the player deviating most from his best response is provably still within O(log n) of the cost of his best response, while simulation results support a much smaller maximum deviation from the best response.

Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) have gained considerable attention in the recent years due to fast deployment, easy maintenance and low upfront investment compared with traditional wireless networks. Since WMNs are typically used as wireless backbones, they have the nature that the wireless communication is not stable. Hence, it is significant to protect them against link or node failures. Distribution of data using multicast in an unreliable network does not guarantee reliable delivery, which is the prime requirement for many important applications. This paper focuses on designing and implementing an effective reliable multicast protocol called HRTMM based on shortest path tree algorithms (SPTs). For first time in this paper, we use CMAC neural network to design and implement an error or disconnection occurrence prediction mechanism in our proposed protocol that it can recover the unreliable nodes/routes before fault or disconnection happens and consequently restore the network to a consistent state with more reliability. We also discuss a novel hybrid local recovery procedure based on mentioned disconnection prediction method. The HRTMM combines congestion and error control with localized recovery to prevent or recover the different types of losses that may occur in WMNs. Our simulation results show that the HRTMM protocol functions efficiently and reliably for WMNs.

In this paper, we propose a predictive resource allocation algorithm for multicast downlink OFDM systems with imperfect channel state information (CSI). We assume that the CSI is fed back to the base station (BS) through a delayed channel. To avoid the system degradation caused by the outdated CSI, we present a channel prediction scheme at the user side, which takes the delay time into account. Then, under the assumption of the erasure coding, we formulate the optimization problem to maximize the weighted sum rate of the multicast service conditioned on the predicted channel gains, subject to total transmit power and average bit error ratio (BER) constraints. To reduce the time complexity, we propose a two-step suboptimal algorithm that separates subcarrier allocation and power allocation. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has much less average BER violation than the algorithm where no prediction is performed; for short feedback delay, the performance of the proposed algorithm is close to the perfect CSI one.

Wireless mesh networks have been attracting significant attention due to its promising technology. It is becoming a major avenue for the fourth generation of wireless mobility. Communication in large-scale wireless networks can create bottlenecks for scalable implementations of computationally intensive applications. A class of crucially important communication patterns that have already received considerable attention in this regard are group communication operations, since these inevitably place a high demand on network bandwidth and have a consequent impact on algorithm execution times. multicast communication has been among the most primitive group capabilities of any message passing networks. It is central to many important distributed applications in Science and Engineering and fundamental to the implementation of higher-level communication operations such as gossip, gather, and barrier synchronisation. Existing solutions offered for providing multicast communications in WMN have severe restriction in terms of almost all performance characteristics. Consequently, there is a need for the design and analysis of new efficient multicast communication schemes for this promising network technology. Hence, the aim of this study is to tackle the challenges posed by the continuously growing need for delivering efficient multicast communication over WMN. In particular, this study presents a new load balancing aware multicast algorithm with the aim of enhancing the QoS in the multicast communication over WMNs.

This paper examines the effect of cell loadings on the performance of a group based multicast algorithm implemented on the HSDPA air interface. The group based multicast scheme could offer higher QoS and capacity in a HSDPA network. However, the performance of the multicast algorithm could be affected by neighboring cell loadings. In order to compensate the variable SINR conditions caused by the variation in neighboring cell loading it is necessary to optimize the group switching algorithm to maintain high QoS in a cell and to minimize the uplink feedback traffic. The paper presents simulation results showing the effects of cell loading on the performance of the group based multicasting scheme. An OPNET based multi-cell simulation model has been used to obtain the results.
