multicast applications such as real-time streaming and video/teleconferencing tolerate delay and packet loss poorly. As a consequence, multicast routing and forwarding should offer flexibility and resiliency for them. In this paper, we introduce fast reroute methods for LIPSIN, a novel Bloom filter based multicast forwarding fabric. We propose two different algorithms, both capable of rerouting traffic immediately after the failure is detected, keeping service disruption at minimum. The two solutions give flexibility to operators by allowing trade-offs between bandwidth and configuration complexity. Finally, we give guidelines about the applicability of our methods by conducting simulations.

It is necessary to control the P2P traffic among ASs (autonomous systems) while the P2P applications occupy the most bandwidth of the backbone network. Instead of only restricting the P2P applications, the paper suggests an intelligent relay method based on P2P communities model. The proxy of content caching (PCC) nodes is proposed which are used to manage the local content cache in the P2P communities. The problems of building the core overlay multicast tree (COMT) among the PCC nodes can be reduced to the minimal steiner tree problem (MSTP). For optimizing the multicast trees, the off-line genetic algorithm (GA) is adopted, which uses the destination-oriented method for represent chromosomes and genetic operators. Simulation experimental results show that our model can obtain a near optimal solution for COMT, which has the feathers of low bandwidth cost and high scalability.

It is challenging to provide authentication to time-critical multicast data, where low end-to-end delay is of crucial importance. Consequently, it requires not only efficient authentication algorithms to minimize computational cost, but also avoidance of buffering packets so that the data can be immediately processed once being presented. Desirable properties for a multicast authentication scheme also include small communication overhead, tolerance to packet loss, and resistance against malicious attacks. In this paper, we propose a novel signature model - Time Valid One-Time Signature (TV-OTS) - to boost the efficiency of regular one-time signature schemes. Based on the TV-OTS model, we design an efficient multicast authentication scheme "TV-HORS" to meet the above needs. TV-HORS combines one-way hash chains with TV-OTS to avoid frequent public key distribution. It provides fast signing/verification and buffering-free data processing, which make it one of the fastest multicast authentication schemes to date in terms of end-to-end computational latency (on the order of microseconds). In addition, TV-HORS has perfect tolerance to packet loss and strong robustness against malicious attacks. The communication overhead of TV-HORS is much smaller than regular OTS schemes, and even smaller than RSA signature. The only drawback of TV-HORS is a relatively large public key of size 8 KB to 10 KB, depending on parameters.

In this paper we define and address a new problem that arises when a base station in a broadband wireless network wishes to multicast information to a large group of nodes and to guarantee some level of reliability using Application layer FEC codes. Every data block to be multicast is translated into a sequence of K + n packets, from which every receiver must receive at least K in order to correctly decode the block. The new problem is to determine which PHY layer MCS (Modulation and Coding Scheme) the base station should use for each packet. We present several variants of this problem, which differ in the number of ARQ (Automatic Repeat reQuest) rounds during which the delivery of a data block must be completed. Most of these variants are shown to be NP-hard. However, we present optimal solutions for practical instances, where the number of MCSs is small, and efficient approximations and heuristics for the general case of each variant.

The paper presents a QoS multicast routing algorithm based on clonal selection and artificial fish swarm algorithms (CSA-AFSA). The hybrid algorithms reasonably use the superiorities of both algorithms and try to overcome their inherent drawbacks. An improved initialization method is used to make sure each individual in initial population is a reasonable multicast tree without loops. The simulation carried out with different network scale. For performance comparison, ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm and genetic algorithm (GA) also been tested. The results have demonstrated the hybrid algorithm has high speed of convergence and searching capability to solve QoS multicast routing effectively.

A number of key issues arise in the implementation of scalable multicast protocols for wireless mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), namely energy consumption and data delivery over unstable/mobile nodes. To improve scalability of these protocols, clustering has been proposed. Clustering allows reducing the number of mobile nodes participating in multicast routing algorithms, which in turn significantly reduces the routing-related control overhead. In this paper, we propose a clustering algorithm, called RSIDS (restful stability based insomnious distributed sensors), which considers both stability and residual energy of neighboring nodes when selecting critical nodes (i.e. cluster heads and gateways). RSIDS uses passive clustering (in opposition to active clustering) to form the clustering structure. The critical nodes selection enables the selection of most stable nodes with high residual energy as critical nodes; the goal is to minimize re-clustering (and thus re-branching for multicast protocols) that may generate considerable overhead and packet losses and increase the lifespan of the network. We show, via simulations, that RSIDS outperforms existing clustering schemes, in terms of packet delivery ratio and network lifetime, when used with the MAODV (multicast ad hoc on demand distance vector) routing protocol.

We address the multicast problem in cognitive radio networks, where secondary users exploit channels temporarily unused by primary users (i.e., spectrum opportunities). The existence of a communication link between two secondary users depends not only on the transmission power of the secondary transmitter and the distance between these two users, but also on the occurrence of spectrum opportunities. This dependency on the occurrence of spectrum opportunities complicates the construction of an efficient multicast tree in cognitive radio networks. By taking into account this dependency, we propose a low-complexity approximation algorithm with bounded performance guarantee for constructing the minimum-energy multicast tree, which transforms the multicast problem into a directed Steiner tree problem. We also demonstrate this dependency by studying the impact of the traffic load of the primary network on the minimum-energy multicast tree.

The QoS is a key measure for satisfaction level of next-generation network (NGN). QoS multicast routing is becoming an urgent problem to promote NGN. An optimization mode is proposed for it, and an immune inspired algorithm is designed to solve the model. The simulation study shows the promising effects of the model and the algorithm. The study can meet the requirements of NGN performance optimization.

In allusion to the network characteristic of wireless sensor network and QoS constraints, such as, surplus energy of nodes, time lapse, time lapse wobble, bandwidth and so on. This paper take the maximal surplus energy for the first measurement, simultaneity considering the factors including bandwidth of nodes, time lapse, time lapse wobble and so on, has brought forward multi-QoS constrained multicast route algorithm SEQMRA-W based on maximal nodes' surplus energy, the algorithmic realization process and the step is given, and carry through the certification of algorithmic validity and the analysis of complexity. The experiment indicated that the algorithm in the route success rate, cost of multicast tree. Energy consumption has fairly good characteristic.

Recently considerable efforts have focused on the design of self-adaptive flow control schemes for wireless multicast service. This attention is significantly necessary due to the large scale heterogeneous wireless multicast receivers, especially those with large propagation delays, which means the feedbacks arriving at the source node are somewhat outdated and harmful to the control *** solve the above problems, the paper describes a novel, autonomous, and predictive wireless multicast flow control scheme, the so-called proportional, integrative plus neural network (PINN) predictive technique. The final sending rate of the multicast source is the expected receiving rates computed by PI controller based on the consolidated feedback information. The link bandwidth is fairly shared among multiple multicast sessions from different sources, and also shared between multicast flow and CBR flow. They analyze the theoretical aspects of the proposed algorithm, simply show how the control mechanism can be used to design a controller. In this paper, we describe more details on how this controller can support wireless multi-rate multicast transmission based on feedback of explicit rates, and give relevant simulation analysis. Simulation results demonstrate that this PINN scheme optimizes the QoS of wireless multicast networks in terms of fast response, scalability, intra-session fairness, inter-session fairness, and stability of buffer occupancy. Thus, the presented scheme makes the wireless multicast system achieve reliable performance and scalable application in the large scale heterogeneous wireless multicast system.
