This paper presents a proposed architecture for a MultiPoint-to-MultiPoint routing algorithm for large-scale high-speed networks. This algorithm builds a bi-directional multicast tree. The tree is shared among multicast group members. The presented architecture is useful for multicast applications within a single autonomous domain. It requires full topology and group membership knowledge. It considers two different metric parameters delay and cost. This consideration directs the multicast traffic to routes different from those of unicast and broadcast traffics. The goal of this architecture is to create a congestion prevention policy, as an open loop solution for traffic control. A good design attempts to balance the load over the domain and avoids traffic concentration, especially that multicast traffics are greedy in bandwidth consumption. The experiments show the advantages of using this architecture over traditional multicast routing. The performance is compared in terms of the required buffer size, the number of forwarded packets, end-to-end delay, and packet loss rate. The architecture scales well with the increase of the number of senders within a multicast group.

Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) have gained considerable attention in the recent years due to fast deployment, easy maintenance and low upfront investment compared with traditional wireless networks. Since WMNs are typically used as wireless backbones, they have the nature that the wireless communication is not stable. Hence, it is significant to protect them against link or node failures. Distribution of data using multicast in an unreliable network does not guarantee reliable delivery, which is the prime requirement for many important applications. This paper focuses on designing and implementing an effective reliable multicast protocol called HRTMM based on shortest path tree algorithms (SPTs). For first time in this paper, we use CMAC neural network to design and implement an error or disconnection occurrence prediction mechanism in our proposed protocol that it can recover the unreliable nodes/routes before fault or disconnection happens and consequently restore the network to a consistent state with more reliability. We also will discuss a novel hybrid local recovery procedure based on mentioned disconnection-prediction method. The HRTMM combines congestion and error control with localized recovery to prevent or recover the different types of losses that may occur in WMNs. Our simulation results show that the HRTMM protocol functions efficiently and reliably for WMNs.

In order to solve the scalability problem of QoS routing in large networks, hierarchical networks and hierarchical routing are proposed. There are tow key issues in hierarchical multicast routing (HMR): one is topology aggregation (TA), and the other is multicast tree state aggregation (MTSA). And the latter is discussed deeply in this paper. The main contributions of this paper include: multicast tree state information (MTSI) with Delay-Bandwidth constraints is defined; pseudo tree border node (PTBN) mode is proposed to solve the aggregation of MTSI of a domain; at the same time, layer band representation points (LBRP) method is proposed to compress multi MTSI generated when aggregating MTSI using PTBN mode. Simulation results show that the number of MTSI not only stored in nodes but also broadcasted between nodes is largely reduced with PTBN aggregation mode in hierarchical networks.

multicast conferencing is a rapidly-growing area of Internet use. Audio, video and other media such as shared whiteboard data can be distributed efficiently between groups of conference participants using multicast algorithms that minimize the amount of traffic sent over the network. This is far more effective than systems that maintain a separate link between each participant. On the other hand Peer-to-Peer (P2P) model is inherently characterized by high scalability, robustness and fault tolerance. With its decentralized and distributed architecture, a P2P network is somehow able to self organized dynamically. Peer-to-Peer model or architecture is well adapted to conferencing applications, effectively it can greatly benefit from P2P attributes such as: flexibility, scalability and robustness, particularly in critical environments such as: mobile networks. In this paper we propose a novel and scalable approach for P2P conferencing. This model combines a call control and signalling protocol (SIP) with a ¿P2P¿ protocol (Chord) for maintaining (dynamically) a well stabilized and optimized architecture topology. This model is also based on an application layer multicast mechanism. Performance evaluation shows that our proposed approach benefits from SIP protocol flexibility, with the robustness and scalability of chord protocol. The use of a multicast mechanism optimizes the overall traffic flow (control and media) and transmission efficiency.

DVB-SH has been demonstrated to provide an efficient way of carrying multimedia services over hybrid satellite and terrestrial networks for a big diversity of terminals. Moreover, a variety of possible hybrid system architectures can be chosen due to the two different physical layers specified: ODFM and TDM. Although DVB-SH has been designed for broadcast transmission, we propose to use it for multicast applications, which is more competitive over satellite systems. New system techniques implemented in the hybrid scheme, such as ACM and resource allocation, make the system strongly dependent on the channel conditions. Thus the capacity optimization in a multicast scenario becomes a powerful research challenge, mainly in mobile scenarios. In this paper, we aim at optimizing the multicast transmission over the satellite link and the terrestrial link of a DVB-SH based system. The architecture proposed includes resource allocation techniques adapted according to cross-layer information, and depending on the scenarios considered (users mobility and transmission mode). We first investigate a Hierarchical Allocation algorithm based on SC (HA-SC) for the OFDM air interface of DVB-SH, which is constrained to serve a minimum rate to all users. We later propose a Time Scheduling (TS) algorithm, more appropriate for TDM satellite-based systems, which finds the optimal number of users to be served in order to achieve the highest throughput in the multicast group. We show that TS algorithm performs successfully compared to the worst case user (broadcast). On the other hand, HA-SC is more suitable for the satellite since it outperforms TS.

The growing reliance of networked applications on timely and reliable data transfer requires the networking to provide adequate services even in the presence of ¿persistent¿ failures which be caused by spiteful attack, natural disasters etc. It is much more difficult to meet this requirement for multicast sessions than for unicast communications because any on-tree component failure may often cause simultaneous service disruptions to multiple receivers. This paper presents a novel IP multicast Fast Self-healing approach. The proposed approach prepares for failures using backup parents node and Failure Inferencing based joining path. Upon a failure, suppresses the link state advertisement and instead triggers local rerouting. With this approach, when no more than one link fail, a isolated sub-tree that is caused by failure is guaranteed to be reconnected along a loop-free path to the multicast tree if such a path exists. This paper demonstrates the feasibility and reliability of our approach. Our evaluation results show that FIMFS trades resource usage and end-to-end delay for short recovery time.

The Distributed Tree Construction (DTC) algorithm is designed for optimally efficient multicast tree construction over structured peer-to-peer networks. It achieves this by creating a spanning tree over the peers in the multicast group, using only information available locally on each peer. Furthermore, we show that the tree depth has the same upper bound as a regular DHT lookup which in turn guarantees fast and responsive runtime behavior. Our DTC algorithm is DHT-agnostic and works with most existing DHTs. We evaluate the performance of DTC over several DHTs by comparing the performance to existing application-level multicast solutions, we show that DTC sends 30-250% fewer messages than common solutions.

Emerging applications require secure multicast communication in ad hoc environments like military or public emergency applications. It must consider several challenging factors such as frequent node mobility, limited bandwidth, limited power and constrained energy. Key management is the fundamental challenge in designing secure multicast communications. In many multicast interactions, new member can join and current members can leave at any time and existing members must communicate securely using multicast key distribution within constrained energy for mobile ad hoc networks. This has to overcome the challenging element of ldquo1 affects nrdquo problem which is due to high group dynamism. To solve this problem, multicast group clustering is the best solution. The proposed algorithm is an enhancement of optimized multicast cluster tree (EOMCT) with destination sequenced distance vector (DSDV) routing protocol provides efficient multicast key distribution. An analytical model is presented to evaluate its performance in terms of average latency of key distribution and energy consumption. The numerical and simulation results shows that reduction in the average latency of key distribution results in reduction in energy consumption. It also shows that this analytical model can be used to accurately predict the performance efficiency of the proposed approach under varying network conditions.

In this study, we consider an optimization problem concerning about how to build a multicast tree to deliver continuous multimedia streams to a large number of mesh clients on the wireless mesh networks simultaneously. In order to provide high-quality streams to users, we need to allocate non-overlapping channels to communication links to avoid interference. Since the number of non-overlapping channels is very limited, some links may not have channels allocated, and the resulting multicast tree may cover only a subset of subscribers. Since the more subscribers can be serviced, the more profits we can make. The goal of this research is then set to determine a multicast tree that can maximize the number of serviced subscribers. An algorithm named LCMR is proposed for the problem described above. The experimental results show that the partial multicast tree determined by our LCMR method outperforms the trees found by the previous published approaches.

All prominent unicast and multicast routing protocols designed for wireless Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks (MANETs) require a communications cost that scales like O(N 2 ) where N is the number of nodes in the routing domain. We explore the use of extremely lightweight network structures, which require communications costs that scale like O(N) or O(N 3/2 ), for use in new unicast and multicast routing. Our previous studies investigate the efficiency of single or multiple spanning trees for use in discovering unicast routing paths. In this paper we extend our previous studies to investigate the use of these same network structures to build efficient estimates of the Minimum Connected Dominating Set (MCDS) of nodes for multicast packet distribution. We use simulation studies to evaluate the closeness of our approach compared to other prominent MCDS estimate algorithms. We find that our approach results in MCDS estimates as good as the best distributed local algorithms, while generating no additional communications cost over our existing unicast routing methods.
