Stability of a reactor with Niederlinski criterion using RGA matrices

This paper considers a distillation column used in heavy crude oil separation where pairings exhibit negative Niederlinski Index values, potentially leading to system instability. In this study, we address this issue by constructing a Relative Gain Array matrix from a transfer matrix of order 3. We employ mathematical techniques to steer the system towards stability. Through subtle modifications to matrix entries, we achieve stable configurations.

Joint estimation and suppression of phase noise and carrier frequency offset in multiple-input multiple-output single carrier frequency division multiple access with single-carrier space frequency block coding

Carrier frequency offset (CFO) and phase noise are challenging problems in single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) system. In this study, the authors have studied single-carrier space frequency block coding (SC-SFBC) to reduce the peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) SC-FDMA signal, in which Alamouti SFBC will change the signal spectrum structure, break the single-carrier property and increase PAPR. Also, the authors propose a joint algorithm to suppress the inter-carrier interference (ICI) caused by phase noise and CFO. Conventional methods are to estimate phase noise and CFO in other algorithms, which are pretty difficult and complicated to obtain accurate estimation results. Unlike the conventional works, the novelty of the authors proposed algorithm is that it directly calculates the interference components and then reconstructs the ICI matrix. Thus, it avoids the degrading interactions between phase noise and CFO estimations. The proposed algorithm exploits block-type pilot, which is a common pilot pattern in SC-FDMA communications and is used in other wireless communication standards. Simulation results show that the suppression performance keeps smooth while phase noise and CFO varies, and BER performance degradation can be significantly reduced in 3 dB.

A novel block diagonalisation (BD)-based Multiuser multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO)-aided relaying scheme is proposed for downlink transmissions, which does not require any channel state information at the base station (BS) and decomposes a MU-MIMO-aided relaying system into several parallel single-user MIMO-assisted relaying schemes. Furthermore, based on the proposed algorithm the optimal linear processing matrix designed for the maximum achievable capacity is derived, which significantly outperforms the so-called naive weighting matrix.

Cognitive radio is a potential technique to solve the spectrum shortage problem in wireless communications. Integrating wireless relaying into the cognitive radio networks can further improve the spectrum efficiency. In this study, a multiple-input multiple-output cognitive relay network is considered, where the primary network (PN) consists of one transmitter-receiver pair and the secondary network consists of multiple active source-destination pairs and non-regenerative relays. All nodes in the networks are deployed with multiple antennas. How to avoid interference to the PN is an important task in the secondary network design. The precoders of the secondary sources and the receivers of the secondary destinations are designed in a well-known zero-forcing way. The secondary relays forward signals for the secondary source-destination pairs by beamforming. With interference cancellation constraints and individual transmit power constraints, a relay beamforming scheme is proposed to maximise the total signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) at the secondary destinations. Then a maximising minimum SINR relay beamforming scheme is further proposed to provide max-min fairness among the secondary source-destination pairs. The beamforming problems are formulated into the quadratically constrained quadratic fractional programming problems, and are solved by the semi-definite relaxation technique. The performances of these beamforming schemes have been verified by computer simulations.

Capacity of generalised network multiple-input-multiple-output systems with multicell cooperation

In network multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems, cooperative base stations (BSs) and mobile terminals (MTs) are in general at different geographic locations. Correspondingly, the channel gains with respect to different BSs and/or MTs may obey different distributions, which resulted from, different pathlosses, different strength of line-of-sight (LOS) components and so on. Furthermore, future wireless communication systems are expected to be equipped with multiple antennas for transmission/receiving. In these multiantenna systems, signals received by the antennas of one BS from one MT may be correlated. Against the above-mentioned scenarios, in this contribution, the authors study the capacity of the generalised uplink network MIMO systems with multicell cooperation (MCoP), when propagation pathlosses, fast Rician fading with various LOS components and spatial correlation are simultaneously considered. Specifically, the theory of operator-valued free probability is introduced to derive the approximate eigenvalue distribution (AED) of the correlation matrix of the equivalent channels. Based on the AED, the approximate capacity of uplink network MIMO systems is then studied. Furthermore, a range of special cases are analysed by specialise the authors model and modifying their results. Finally, both numerical and simulation results are provided for characterising the capacity of network MIMO systems with MCoP.

Interference cancellation and alignment techniques for multiple-input and multiple-output cognitive relay networks

We consider a multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) cognitive radio (CR) network with a MIMO relay that opportunistically accesses the same frequency band as that of a MIMO primary network. In particular, both interference cancellation and interference alignment techniques have been investigated to enhance the achievable degrees of freedom (DoF) for the MIMO CR network. Based on the number of antennas at the primary network and the secondary network, the authors analytically quantify the maximum achievable DoF of the secondary network by using the proposed techniques. It is shown that the DoF obtained by the CR network in the presence of a MIMO relay is higher than that could be obtained without a relay. The analyses consider both sufficient and insufficient number of antennas at the relay in terms of the ability to separate and decode both the primary and secondary transmitted signals. The simulation results support the analytically quantified achievable DoF results.

This paper proposes an adaptive power allocation scheme in cognitive radio system under MIMO fading channel. In the spectrum-sharing system, the secondary user (SU) can use the primary user's (PU) spectrum band under some limitations. In this research, we consider that the SU's transmission power has to be limited to ensure an acceptable effect on the primary's receiver, meanwhile the QoS of the primary user's should be guaranteed. Under the limitations of average and peak received-power at the side of PU's receiver, we get the optimum power allocation scheme of SU, and the channel capacity is adopted as the metric of the system performance. Finally, we verify the theoretical results through numerical simulations.

Digital Signal Processing for High-Speed THz Communications

The use of advanced digital signal processing(DSP) technology in the high-speed terahertz(THz) communication can effectively compensate the linear and nonlinear effects of the system and further improve the transmission performance of the system. This paper introduces the principle and application of advanced DSP algorithms such as probability shaping(PS)technology, Volterra series nonlinear compensation algorithm, Kramers-Kronig receiver, look-up table(LUT)pre-distortion compensation technology, pre-equalization and decision-directed least-mean-square equalization algorithm. Combined with DSP algorithms such as PS and LUT pre-distortion, using photon-assisted technology to successfully realize the wireless transmission of vector THz signals higher than 1 Tbit/s on the sub-THz band(D-band) 4 × 4 multiple input multiple output system.

Graph-based stochastic model for high-speed railway cutting scenarios

This study proposes a stochastic channel model based on the propagation graph theory for high-speed railway (HSR) cutting scenarios. Single-input single-output wideband measurements are conducted under a cutting for acquiring realistic channel data. The propagation graph covering line of sight, single bounced and double bounced conditions is used to describe the measured propagation scenario and generate the virtual channel impulse responses. The graph model is validated focusing on small-scale characteristics such as Ricean K-factor, delay and frequency dispersions, and a close agreement is achieved between model and measurement results. In particular, the verified model is extended to the multiple-input multiple-output case for simulation analysis of MIMO performance of the measured environment, concentrating on the spatial correlation and the ergodic capacity. The proposed model can facilitate the reliable simulation and evaluation of MIMO systems in the HSR cutting scenario.

Cooperative diversity scheme using SPC in MIMO-OFDMA system

A method to obtain high diversity gain is proposed by spatial phase coding (SPC) in the cooperative multiple input multiple output-orthogonal frequency division multiple access (MIMO-OFDMA) system. SPC provides improved diversity gain dramatically in proportion to the number of received paths although the one-bit feedback information is used. Moreover, the cooperative MIMO-OFDMA system has received paths without additional antennas more than the conventional MIMO-OFDMA system. Therefore, SPC can improve reliability in the cooperative MIMO-OFDMA system effectively.
