Online tracking of coherent signals over multiple-input multiple- output code division multiple access communication channel using JADE-Capon method in conjunction with iterative space-time lifting preprocessing scheme

The main motivation for this work is how to handle the circumvent problem encountered in decorrelating perfect coherent multipath signals over MIMO-CDMA channel with small number of sensors and few data snapshots. The authors propose a new iterative space-time lifting preprocessing (ISTLP) decorrelating scheme that guarantees a perfect decorrelating of a great number of impinging signals even when they are fully correlated and overlaying in space and time domains. It is based on exploiting iteratively the spatial and temporal redundancies arising from multiple antennas and multiple slots. The temporal lifting scheme is introduced first, for efficient tracking and cancelling of ISI, MAI and noise effects within the bank of the N-tapped-delay-lines associated with the user of interest. Secondly, this iterative multi-resolution approach will be coupled to a preprocessing scheme to allow easy transformation of resulting temporal-lifted covariance matrix from time domain to an equivalent Vandermonde structure in frequency domain to be exploited in spatial lifting step. Two detection criteria are therefore established to attempt the convergence state in ISTLP algorithm. Finally, a JADE-Capon method based on ST-MVDR beamformer is applied to the spatial-temporal-lifted preprocessed covariance matrix to compute the joint azimuth-direction-of-arrival and delay of desired Ki multipath signals. The efficacy and high resolution capability of the proposed estimation approach is supported by numerical simulation results.

With the tremendous increase in wireless user traffic, investigation on the end-to-end reliability of wireless networks in practical conditions such as non-homogeneous fading channel conditions is becoming increasingly widespread. Because they fit well to the experimental data, generalized channel fading distributions like kappa-mu, are well suited for modeling diverse fading channels. This paper analyzes the symbol error rate (SER) and outage probability (OP) performance of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) space-time block-code (STBC) selective decode and forward (S-DF) network over kappa-mu, fading channel conditions considering the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). First, the closed-form (CF) analytical expressions for the probability density function (PDF) and the cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) as well as its moment generating function (MGF) are derived. Second, the OP performance is then investigated for various values of the channel fading parameter and SNR regimes. The simulation findings show an increase in SER performance with an improved line-of-sight (LOS) component. Furthermore, the results show that the S-DF relaying systems can function properly even when there is no fading or LOS component. The OP has been increasing with the increase in the value of mu and kappa. In medium and high SNR regimes, simulation results exactly match with analytical results.

A multiple-input multiple-output visible light communication (VLC) system based on disorder dispersion components is presented. Instead of monochromatic sources and large size photodetectors used in the traditional VLC systems, broadband sources with different spectra act as the transmitters and a compact imaging chip sensor accompanied by a disorder dispersion component and a calculating component serve as the receivers in the proposed system. This system has the merits of small size, more channels, simple structure, easy integration, and low cost. Simultaneously, the broadband sources are suitable to act as illumination sources for their white color. A regularized procedure is designed to solve a matrix equation for decoding the signals at the receivers. A proof-of-concept experiment using on-off keying modulation has been done to prove the feasibility of the design. The experimental results show that the signals decoded by the receivers fit well with those generated from the transmitters, but the bit error ratio is increased with the number of the signal channels. The experimental results can be further improved using a high-speed charge-coupled device, decreasing noises, and increasing the distance between the transmitters and the receivers. The identification capacity region of the compound broadcast channel is determined under an average error criterion, where the sender has no channel state information. We give single-letter identification capacity formulas for discrete channels and multiple-input multiple-output Gaussian channels under an average input constraint. The capacity theorems apply to general discrete memoryless broadcast channels. This is in contrast to the transmission setting, where the capacity is only known for special cases, notably the degraded broadcast channel and the multipleinput multiple-output broadcast channel with private messages. Furthermore, the identification capacity region of the compound multiple-input multiple-output broadcast channel can be larger than the transmission capacity region. This is a departure from the single-user behavior of identification, since the identification capacity of a single-user channel equals the transmission capacity.

Multiuser detection algorithm based on belief propagation in multiple-input multiple-output systems

In MIMO (multiple-input, multiple-output) systems, signals from different transmitting antennas interfere at each receiving antenna and multiuser detection (MUD) algorithms may be adopted to improve the system performance. This paper proposes a novel multiuser detection algorithm in MIMO systems based on the idea of 'belief propagation' which has achieved great accomplishment in decoding of low-density parity-check codes. The proposed algorithm has a low computation complexity proportional to the square of transmitting/receiving antenna number. Simulation results show that under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) circumstances, the proposed algorithm outperforms the traditional linear minimum mean square error (MMSE) detector while it encounters a 'floor' of bit error rate under high SNR circumstances. So the proposed algorithm is applicable to MIMO systems with channel coding and decoding. Although in this paper the proposed algorithm is derived in MIMO systems, obviously it can be applied to ordinary code-division multiple access (CDMA) systems.

Conventional monostatic synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) imaging is based on the point target assumption, and may suffer from the target scattering fluctuation within the scope of the synthesized aperture. Bistatic sonar can sample target scattering pattern (TSP) at any angle rather than from only the back scattering direction. It offers potential advantages when faced with an anisotropic target, but is still subject to limited mainlobe width of the TSP. In this paper we construct a unified framework of coherent and non-coherent processing, where the concept of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and SAS are closely integrated to overcome the above-mentioned problem. Both bistatic sonar and MIMO sonar embody the concept of "Multi-", admitting the existence of spatial fading of acoustic targets and trying to make use of it. It is straightforward to migrate a conventional SAS to MIMO-SAS by putting multiple transmitters to insonify the target from different angles. An example realization of the framework using two transmitters is demonstrated.

Inverse design has been applied to a variety of complex electromagnetic structures including multifunctional and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) devices, where analytical design methods are limiting. We have previously reported on the inverse design of single-input, single-output Perfectly-Matched Metamaterials (PMMs). PMMs are inhomogeneous, anisotropic 2D metamaterials composed of unit cells that remain impedance-matched to each other and the surroundings under all excitations. PMMs rely primarily on refractive effects and exhibit broadband operation. This work presents the inverse design of a compact MIMO device based on PMMs: a 2D beamformer with prescribed amplitude and phase profiles that exhibits zero scan loss.

In this paper, we consider the security issue of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with index modulation (OFDM-IM) systems with a passive multiple-antenna eavesdropper. A physical-layer security scheme based on quadrature spatial modulation (QSM) and artificial noise (AN) is proposed to resist eavesdropping while maintaining the same receiver as the conventional OFDM-IM at the destination. By exploiting the structure of QSM, the generated OFDM-IM symbols are split into two orthogonal parts, and precoded ANs are injected into each part to produce combined symbols for transmission. Secrecy rate of the proposed secure MIMO OFDM-IM is derived and evaluated through numerical simulations. Compared to the existing secure OFDM-IM scheme, the proposed secure MIMO OFDM-IM shows better security against eavesdropping, especially when the eavesdropping channel is correlated to the legitimate channel.

This paper considers the problem of filter design with secrecy constraints, where two legitimate parties (Alice and Bob) communicate in the presence of an eavesdropper (Eve), over a Gaussian multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wiretap channel. This problem involves the design of transmit and receive filters which minimize the mean-square error (MSE) between the legitimate parties, whilst assuring that the eavesdropper MSE remains above a certain level. We characterize the form of the optimal transmit filter when both the legitimate receiver and the eavesdropper employ Zero-Forcing (ZF) filters. By capitalizing on the dual problem, we also show that the original matrix optimization problem can be reduced to a simple scalar optimization problem, whose solution can be readily computed by employing a simple bisection method. Numerical results illustrate the main conclusions.

A new layered space-time detection algorithm for frequency selective fading multiple-input multiple-output channels based on particle filter

In this paper, a new observation equation of non-Gaussian frequency selective fading Bell Labs layered space time （BLAST） architecture system is proposed, which is used for frequency selective fading channels and non-Gaussian noise in an application environment of BLAST system. With othogonal matrix triangularization （QR decomposition） of the channel matrix, the static observation equation of frequency selective fading BLAST system is transformed into a dynamic state space model, and then the particle filter is used for space-time layered detection. Making the full use of the finite alphabet of the digital modulation communication signal, the optimal proposal distribution can be chosen to produce particle and update the weight. Incorporated with current method of reducing error propagation, a new space-time layered detection algorithm is proposed. Simulation result shows the validity of the proposed algorithm.
