One primary challenge in High Speed Trains (HST) is that mobile communications suffer from severe attenuation and high Doppler spread in Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) scenarios. In this article, a novel two-hop relay architecture is presented by utilizing Mobile Relay Nodes (MRN) and millimeter wave (mmWave) bands at 60 GHz to forward the signal inside the train. A multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel is established between the Donor-eNB (DeNB) and the Users Equipment (UE) to enhance channel capacity. Finally, performance analysis is studied and discussed by means of a downlink-level simulator.

Multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) has been adopted as a key enabling technique to achieve the capacity demand in 4G wireless networks. However, there are still some problems existing in the frequency division duplex (FDD) MU-MIMO system, such as the channel quality indicator (CQI) mismatch problem, large uplink feedback, low pairing probability of MU communication. In this paper, we exploit a MU-MIMO scheme in FDD assisted by device-to-device (D2D) technique to enhance the conventional LTE network. The proposed scheme could not only solve the above problems in conventional MU-MIMO systems, but also achieve significant performance improvement than conventional MU-MIMO schemes. Since the user pairing process is done at the user side, the feedback of the proposed scheme is reduced dramatically compared with the conventional scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed D2D assisted MU-MIMO scheme has clear superiority in terms of throughput over conventional MU-MIMO scheme in LTE networks. Because with D2D assisted MU-MIMO, the proposed scheme tackles the CQI mismatch problem and increases the multi-user pairing probability to enhance the overall throughput.

The orthogonal space-time block codes (OSTBCs) increase the diversity order of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system at a reasonable cost of complexity. However, the precoding technique in which complete channel knowledge is available at the base transceiver station has come into existence with OSTBC for improving the system performance. Moreover, a composite generalized-K channel model has become the key for analyzing both the effects of multipath fading and shadowing. Therefore, this chapter has exploited the precoded OSTBC to improve the bit error rate (BER) performance of MIMO system over a generalized-K fading channel.

Visible light communication (VLC) is regarded as one of the promising candidate to complement the conventional radio frequency communication as it can potentially perform communication and illumination simultaneously. Recently, VLC is combined with generalized spatial modulation (GenSM) technology to improve spectral and energy efficiencies. In order to provide high speed communication and flexible dimming control simultaneously, in this paper, a spectral-efficient GenSM based hybrid dimming scheme, which combines the spatial-domain and time-domain dimming strategies, is proposed for VLC. The channel capacity of the proposed scheme is analyzed and a closed-form expression of the upper bound of the channel capacity is derived. According to the required illumination level, the spatial-domain and time-domain strategies are realized based on the maximization of the channel capacity. Simulation results substantiate the superior performance of the proposed dimming scheme over state-of-art dimming schemes.

In this paper, we investigate the outage performance of a general dual-hop multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) amplify-and-forward (AF) relay network, where the source, relay and destination are all equipped with multiple antennas. By considering maximal-ratio-transmission (MRT) and maximal-ratio combining (MRC) for the transmitter and receiver, respectively, we first obtain the output signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the dual-hop AF relay system with multiple co-channel interferences (CCIs) and noise at the relay. Then, we derive closed-form expressions of the outage probability (OP) for both the fixed-gain and variable-gain multi-antenna relaying systems. Finally, computer simulations are carried out to validate the performance analysis. Our new analytical expressions not only provide a fast and efficient method to evaluate the outage performance of the system, but also enable us to gain valuable insights into the effects of key parameters on the performance of the dual-hop AF relaying system benefit from implementing multiple antennas at each of the three nodes in the relaying network.

We analyze the information-theoretic security of transmit-receive diversity systems in the presence of multiantenna eavesdroppers. Specifically, exact and asymptotic closed-form expressions are derived for the secrecy outage probability of such systems in a Rayleigh fading environment. Based on the latter expression, the corresponding secrecy diversity order and secrecy array gain are determined. Numerical results are presented to verify the analytical results and to investigate the impact of various system parameters, including the antenna configuration and the number of eavesdroppers.

In this paper high isolation dual-polarized Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Long Term Evolution (LTE) applications is designed and fabricated. High isolation more than 50 dB is achieved through Quasi-orthogonal modes at 2.6 GHz with hybrid feeding mechanism. Port 1 and port 2 excite TEX and TEY modes through microstrip feed line and coaxial probe, respectively. The proposed design is analyzed for distinct ground planes which demonstrate negligible effect on gain and S-parameters. Simulated and measured results reveal that the proposed design is appropriate for MIMO LTE terminals.

In radar domain, digital beamforming radar is evolving as a promising radar technology as compared to conventional pulse-Doppler radar. The design of PD radar and DBF radar is done by keeping all the design parameters same, and its performance is compared in this work. Needless to say that PD radar uses only analog systems but DBF radar uses digital systems. DBF radar's performance is high, as compared to PD radar because of the use of digital techniques and MIMO antennas. The difference in signal to clutter ratio is 5.23 dB, i.e., SNR of DBF radar is three times greater than PD radar. The only limitation of DBF radar is being the hardware complexity, due to the use of multiple transceivers at each element of an antenna array, resulting in increased cost, size, weight, and power of the overall system.

We summarize the enabling technologies for broadband millimeter-wave communication at W-band. These enabling technologies include photonics-aided broadband signal generation, high-spectral efficiency modulation format, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) reception, high gain antenna, optical and electrical multi-carrier modulation, antenna polarization multiplexing and multi-band multiplexing, advanced digital signal processing (DSP), and heterodyne detection. Based on these advanced technologies, we have realized over 400G wireless signal transmission and over 2.5-km wireless delivery with a bit rate up to 50Gb/s at W-band.
