A relay and antenna selection scheme is proposed for multiple-input multiple-output decode-and-forward cooperative networks, where multiple antennas are installed at the grid-powered source, the battery-powered relays and the grid-powered destination. In order to prolong the network lifetime and avoid the serious degradation of the network performance, the residual energy in the battery of each battery-powered relay is also considered for the relay and antenna selection, besides the channel conditions between the transmitting antennas and the receiving antennas. Another important feature of the proposed scheme lies in the variable number of transmitting antennas selected for data forwarding. The performance of the proposed scheme, in terms of average channel capacity and average network lifetime, is validated by Monte Carlo simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme is superior to the compared scheme in the network performance. Most of all, the network lifetime is significantly prolonged.

We study outage performance of a downlink multiple-input multiple-output non-orthogonal multiple access (MIMO-NOMA) in dual hop amplify-and-forward (AF) relay communication system over frequency non-selective and slow fading channels with Nakagami-m distribution. In the network, the base station (BS) and mobile users equipped by multi-antenna communicate by the help of fixed gain AF relay with single antenna. In the network, transmit antenna selection (TAS) and maximal ratio combining (MRC) diversity techniques are employed at the BS and mobile users, respectively. Exact closed-form outage probability is derived. Analytical results are validated by Monte Carlo simulations.

This paper presents a novel tri-orthogonal polarization antenna operating at 2.4 GHz with good prospective for WLAN and MIMO systems. The design is implemented by integrating dual polarized cross-slot antenna and zeroth-order resonant (ZOR) antenna. The total height of the antenna is 0.762 mm corresponding to 0.01 lambda(g) (where lambda(g) is the guide wavelength at 2.4 GHz). Linear horizontal dual-polarization and vertical polarization radiation patterns are obtained by using cross-polarized slot antennas and ZOR array antenna respectively. The broadside gain provided by the slot radiation is 5.3 dBi while the azimuthal average gain of the ZOR antenna is about 1.2 dBi.

A novel subspace channel estimation is proposed for space-time block coded (STBC) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Considering the zero-padding technique, the signal model of the STBC-OFDM system is first studied. The major drawback of the subspace method is the slow convergence which requires a large number of received symbols to compute the noise subspace. The repetition index scheme is developed here to increase the number of equivalent received symbols. Using the space-time coding property, the forward-backward method is presented to improve the convergence speed further. Moreover, the repetition index scheme transforms the white noise into non-white one. The noise prewhitening technique is proposed to reduce the non-white noise effect. Computer simulations show the effectiveness of the proposed forward-backward method and noise prewhitening technique.

This analytical expression is then validated through extensive simulations for different system parameters. Moreover, the analysis is used to investigate the effect of various system properties, such as Cross Polarization Discrimination (XPD) and noise variance. The emerging of millimeter wave (mmWave) communications has been widely predicted to revolutionize the traditional communications. On one hand, the large bandwidth provided by mmWave is orders of magnitudes larger than that provided by current microwave communications, which therefore supports much higher throughput as well as massive connectivity. On the other hand, the small wavelength of mmWave signals facilitates the application of massive antennas, thus benefiting from the powerful multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) beamforming and other MIMO signal processing techniques. However, mmWave-MIMO systems often suffer from prohibitive power consumption due to the massive antennas and radio frequency (RF) chains. Spatial modulation (SM) techniques have been proposed as a low-complexity, low-power-consumption MIMO candidate. More importantly, the idea of incorporating SM techniques into mmWave-MIMO systems has been proved effective for reducing the number of radio frequency (RF) chains, to which many research efforts have been devoted. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the combination of SM and mmWave communications, with a special emphasis on the hybrid beamforming regimes for SM-motivated mmWave-MIMO systems.

In this paper, we aim at improving the transmission reliability of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) enabled full-duplex (FD) system. To this end, we investigate the implementation of coordinate interleaved orthogonal design (CIOD) based space-time block code in bidirectional FD system, and propose a novel scheme named CI-FD. Theoretical analysis proves that this scheme is able to achieve the full diversity gain of the CIOD technique when the self-interference (SI) of the FD system is effectively suppressed, while maintaining the same spectral efficiency and decoding complexity as the original FD system. Moreover, two performance enhancing schemes based on CI-FD are proposed: 1) CI-FD with antenna selection (AS) that further increases the diversity gain, and 2) CI-FD with spatial modulation (SM) that provides an additional spectral efficiency gain. Upper bounds on the average bit error probabilities of the proposed schemes are derived and their error-free information transmission capabilities are also investigated. Simulation results verify our analysis and demonstrate the advantages of the proposed schemes.

In Signage network systems, cooperative communication system is effective when a direct link between two nodes doesn't exist or a condition of the link is poor by allocating another node between the two nodes to relay signals. As a relay node, a half-duplex relay is widely used for ease of implementation. The half-duplex cooperative communication system using one half-duplex relay node has problems for loss of spectral efficiency and capacity. To solve these problems, a two-path relay cooperative communication system using two half-duplex relays has been actively studied. Although the two-path relay cooperative communication system solves the loss problems by transmitting signals to relay nodes alternately, the simultaneous transmission of the source node and one of the relay nodes causes inter-relay interference (IRI) at the other relay nodes. This paper proposes new two-path relay cooperative transmission method which cancels the IRI at the relay nodes and obtains the spatial diversity gain by using two antennas at the relay nodes. Unlike the conventional scheme which cancels the IRI at the destination node, the interferences aren't accumulated and aren't propagated to the destination node when the distance between the relay nodes decreases in the proposed method. Therefore, the proposed method can improve the reliability of multi-hop based signage network by canceling interference at the relay nodes.

In this paper, three-dimensional (3D) regular-shaped geometry-based stochastic model (RS-GBSM) is developed for wideband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) high speed railway communication system under non-isotropic scattering condition. Correlations of the proposed model in space, time and frequency are studied. Numerical result shows that the simulation model fits the reference model well.
