Interference alignment (IA) boosts system throughput by effectively mitigating interference for high signal-to-noise (SNR) with perfect and global channel state information (CSI). In a system employ frequency division duplex (FDD), CSI is conveyed by feedback channel. Random vector quantization (RVQ) is widely used to reduce the overhead of feedback because it is easy to design and near-optimal, but suffer high computational complexity to find the best codeword. This paper derives the upper loss of the IA based system throughput due to quantization error of CSI, and proposes an IA scheme with hierarchical RVQ (HRVQ) to reduce effectively the computational complexity in the best codeword selection for CSI.

A combination of multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) signal processing with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is regarded as a promising solution for enhancing the performance of next generation wireless local area network (WLAN) systems. However, like OFDM, one main disadvantage of MIMO-OFDM is that the signals transmitted on different antennas might exhibit a prohibitively large peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). Partial transmit sequence (PTS) provides attractive PAPR reduction performance in OFDM or MIMO-OFDM. Unfortunately, it leads to prohibitively large computational complexity. In this paper, types of low-complexity PTS schemes are proposed to reduce the PAPR for MIMO-OFDM systems that use Firefly algorithm (FA) and space-frequency block codes (SFBC). Simulation results show that FA based on PTS can reduce computational complexity dramatically and achieve better PAPR reduction performance compared to ordinary PTS.

Nonlinear and linear crosstalk effects where the paths are implemented on the same chipset cannot be avoided in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transceivers. This paper presents a crossover and crosstalk canceling digital predistortion (CCC-DPD) architecture, which can compensate the nonlinear crosstalk, linear crosstalk and nonlinearity of the power amplifier (PA). What's more, the linearization, nonlinear and linear crosstalk compensation are decoupled in CCC-DPD architecture. The simulation results show the proposed approach can effectively linearize the PA response and compensate the nonlinear and linear crosstalk with much smaller steady-state error than crossover digital predistortion (CO-DPD) and crosstalk canceling digital predistortion (CTC-DPD).

Multiantenna Secure Cognitive Radio Networks With Finite-Alphabet inputs: A Global Optimization Approach for Precoder Design

This paper considers the precoder design for multi-antenna secure cognitive radio networks. We use finite-alphabet inputs as the signaling and exploit statistical channel state information (CSI) at the transmitter. We maximize the secrecy rate of the secondary user and control the transmit power and the power leakage to the primary receivers that share the same frequency spectrum. The secrecy rate maximization is important for practical systems, but challenging to solve, mainly due to two reasons. First, the secrecy rate with statistical CSI is computationally prohibitive to evaluate. Second, the optimization over the precoder is a nondeterministic polynomial-time hard (NP-hard) problem. We utilize an accurate approximation of the secrecy rate to reduce the computational effort and then propose a global optimization approach based on branch-and-bound method. The idea is to define a simplex and transform the secrecy rate into a concave function. The derived concave function converges to the secrecy rate when the defined simplex shrinks down. Using this feature, we solve a sequence of concave maximization problems over iteratively shrinking simplices and eventually attain the globally optimal solution that maximizes the approximation of the secrecy rate. When the complexity is concerned, a low-complexity variant with limited number of iterations can be used in practice. We demonstrate the performance gains when compared with others through numerical examples.

This paper presents a hardware implementation of a detector for spatial modulation multiple-input multiple-output (SM-MIMO) communication systems. The proposed detector employs the signal-vector-based list detection method, but the original method is modified to realize a low-complexity implementation. In addition, the proposed detector is designed based on the dual data path architecture, in which antenna selection and the symbol detection are performed separately with different precision in order to reduce the hardware complexity while achieving a near-optimal error-rate performance. The proposed detector is implemented with 87.4K logic gates in a 0.18-um CMOS technology, and its throughput is 858 Mbps for 8 x 4 64 QAM SM-MIMO systems when the operating frequency is 286 MHz.

We propose a novel spatial modulation (SM) scheme, which is a joint of two index modulation schemes. One is the M-ary spatial shift-keying (MSSK) modulation operated in the space domain, while the other one is theM-ary orthogonal shift keying (MOSK) modulation, which usually requires more bandwidth to implement, when its modulation level increases. As both MSSK and MOSK belong to the energy-efficient modulation schemes, the joint MSSK-MOSK modulation is energy-efficient, which is suitable for providing reliable communications in low signal to noise ratio (SNR) region. We also propose two approaches for detection of the MSSK-MOSK signals. The first approach is the joint maximum likelihood detection (MLD), which simultaneously detects the component MSSK symbol and MOSK symbol in MLD principle. The second approach is the successive MLD, which first detects the component MOSK symbol using non-coherent MLD, and then the component MSSK symbol using coherent MLD. Finally, we investigate the error performance of the MSSK-MOSK modulation, when assuming communications over flat Rayleigh fading channels with receiver diversity. Our studies demonstrate that the joint MLD slightly outperforms the successive MLD, but requires much higher complexity for implementation. With the resources provided from both the space and frequency domains, the MSSK-MOSK with high modulation levels may be readily implemented, which makes it is possible to provide reliable communications at very low energy consumption, even when the low-complexity successive MLD is employed.

This paper analyzes the reception performance of the double space-time transmit diversity (DSTTD) with spatial modulation (SM) in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) channel. The DSTTD-SM scheme improves the performance of spectral efficiency and reception in V2V environments. The conventional multi-input multi-output (MIMO) schemes are also analyzed in the view of the antenna correlated channel and the spectral efficiency. And the simulation results shows DSTTD-SM scheme has better performance than conventional MIMO schemes in V2V channels which have Rician channel properties with correlation between transmit antennas and Doppler effects.

High density small cells with large number of simultaneously connected devices will be controlled by the macro cell in the future 5G wireless standards. In this context, interference management becomes critical in achieving high spectral efficiency. An approach called interference alignment (IA) technique has shown great promise in many theoretical studies. However, the performance improvement brought by IA in the MIMO interference network has not been investigated well when combined with power allocation. In this paper, we propose a joint IA and power allocation algorithm that designed to find the interference mitigation solution and allocate power among different data streams of the users with less computational cost. The proposed algorithm combines the maximum of total system signal interference noise ratio (Max-SINR) criterion and the maximum chord distance of channel matrix criterion not only maximize the distances between the interference subspace and the signal spanned, but also further reduce the interference between users by power allocation. Further, the algorithm in this paper which does not use iterative to get the precoding matrix or the mitigation matrix minimizes the complexity of the whole system and has better engineering applicability. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms other known interference alignment algorithms in terms of throughput and the energy efficiency, which also accord with the green communications.

An adaptive iterative learning control (AILC) is proposed to release the requirement of repetitiveness for a class of multiple-input multiple-output nonlinear systems. Based on high-order internal model, the time-iteration-varying law of parametric uncertainty is expressed. Furthermore, reference trajectory and initial state are varying from iteration to iteration randomly. The asymptotic convergence of the proposed AILC method has been proved through rigorous derivation. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve the control target well.

Visible light communication (VLC) has attracted great attention with the development of the emerging solid-state lighting sources. multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technique is promising to support high data rate VLC thanks to the deployment of multiple lighting sources. However, high channel correlation in indoor MIMO-VLC channels is critical to the performance of indoor MIMO-VLC systems. The advanced non-imaging receivers in recent works reduce the channel correlation by directivity for each photodetector (PD) by interfering the reception of light oriented in the specific direction. Contrary to previous works, we propose in this paper a new mirror-embedded non-imaging receiver which not only blocks the reception of light on one specific direction but also improves the channel gain on the other direction by receiving the light reflected by a double-sided mirror deployed between the PDs. Numerical results and experimental demonstration show that our proposed mirror diversity receiver (MDR) are more beneficial to obtain well-conditioned channel matrices for spatial-multiplexing MIMO-VLC systems supporting high speed data transmission.
