Design of an isolation improved MIMO antenna using metasurface based absorber for wireless applications

The paper intends to present a design of isolation improved MIMO (multiple-input and multiple output) antenna with two elements achieving operating band from 4.04 GHz to 5.48 GHz for wireless applications. The MIMO configuration is comprised of two antenna elements that are maintained at two extreme edges of substrate having dimension of 100 x 50 x 0.8 mm(3). The incorporation of meta-surface based isolator between MIMO antenna elements provide exceptional isolation (<-23 dB) for practical mobile and wireless application. The mutual coupling of unwanted field between MIMO antenna elements acts as major deterrent to exploit the optimum performance for MIMO antenna. The work focus on design and development of MIMO elements with meta-surface based isolator (acting as absorber) clearly with an intention to provide high order optimum isolation levels between two antenna elements. The surface current distribution mechanism provide insight to the high isolation level achieved through incorporation of meta surface based isolator in MIMO setup. The display of spatial/pattern diversity with the attainment of suitable values of envelope correlation coefficient clearly testify its suitability for MIMO based mobile application in microwave regime.

Performance Analysis of a Full-Duplex MIMO Decode-and-Forward Relay System With Self-Energy Recycling

This paper analyzes the performance of the full-duplex (FD) multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) decode-and-forward (DF) relay system in the presence of self-energy recycling (S-ER). Specifically, this work proposes an antenna allocation scheme for S-ER as well as analytically evaluates the performance of this proposed scheme in terms of spectral efficiency (SE), energy efficiency (EE), outage and symbol error rate (SER). Since, the self-interference (SI) is a major bottleneck in achieving the true potentials of FD communication, this work considers SI as an energy harvesting opportunity to enhance the EE of the system. The proposed analysis shows that reserving few antennas for S-ER at the FD-MIMO relay improves the EE, however, it reduces the antenna array gain at the relay for information transmission and reception. Thus, a slight degradation in the SE, outage and SER is observed. Further, an adaptive S-ER technique has been proposed which utilizes the antennas corresponding to the least channel gain with respect to information transmission and reception for S-ER. This adaptive S-ER technique improves the EE and also compensates for the slight degradation in the SE, outage and SER through adaptive antenna allocation. Closed-form expressions for the SE, EE, outage and symbol error rate have been derived for these S-ER techniques. In the end, simulations results are provided to validate the efficacy of the theoretical derivations.

This paper explores the energy efficiency (EE) maximization problem in single-hop multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) half-duplex wireless sensor networks (WSNs) with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT). Such an energy efficiency maximization problem is considered in two different scenarios, in which the number of energy-harvesting (EH) sensor nodes are different. In the scenario where the single energy-harvesting sensor node is applied, the modeled network consists of two multiple-antenna transceivers, of which the energy-constrained energy-harvesting sensor node harvests energy from the signals transmitted from the source by a power splitting (PS) scheme. In the scenario of multiple EH sensor nodes, K energy-constrained sensor nodes are applied and the same quantity of antennas are equiped on each of them. The optimization problem is formulated to maximize the energy efficiency by jointly designing the transceivers' precoding matrices and the PS factor of the energy-harvesting sensor node. The considered constraints are the required harvested energy, the transmission power limit and the requirement on the data rate. The joint design of the precoding matrices and the PS factor can be formulated as an optimization problem, which can be transformed into two sub-problems. An alternating algorithm based on Dinkelbach is proposed to solve the two sub-problems. The convergence of the proposed alternating algorithm, the solution optimality and the computational complexity are analyzed in the paper. Simulation results demonstrate the convergence and effectiveness of our proposed algorithm for realizing the maximum energy efficiency.

Vehicular Visible Light Communication (VLC) has recently attracted much interest from researchers and scientists. This technology enables the connectivity between the vehicles and the infrastructures along the road utilizing the Lighting-Emitting-Diodes based vehicle HeadLights (HLs) and TailLights (TLs) as wireless transmitters. This paper investigates the performance of a Vehicle-to-Vehicle VLC system using a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) scheme. Specifically, we establish the MIMO transmission system by using the two HLs of the source vehicle as wireless transmitters and multiple receivers (RXs) installed at the rear of the destination vehicle as wireless receivers. We consider different numbers of RXs, which result in various MIMO configurations, i.e., 2 x 2, 2 x 3, and 2 x 4. We conduct a channel modeling study based on the non-sequential ray-tracing capabilities of the OpticStudio software to obtain the optical channel gain, considering the possibility of both horizontal and vertical displacement between vehicles. We then explore the contribution of each RX in the total received power. In addition, we investigate the effect of weather conditions, modulation orders, and artificial light sources on the bit error rate (BER) performance of the considered MIMO configurations. The obtained results demonstrate that deploying the MIMO with higher orders can significantly enhance the system performance, particularly when there is a lateral shift between the two cars. It has been drawn from our results that the required SNR to achieve a BER of 10(-4) reduces by 6 dB when 2 x 4 MIMO configuration is deployed compared to the 2 x 2 MIMO configuration.

This paper investigates the channel estimation method for multiuser multiple inputmultiple output (MIMO) multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) communication systems. For the asynchronous uplink transmission situation, the receiver needs to estimate the channel parameters, including the multi-path gain coefficient, the carrier phase offset and the transmission time delay, to demodulate the received signals. Based on the knowledge of the spreading sequences, the proposed parameter estimation method employs the least mean-squared error (LMSE) criterion to the required parameters for the multiuser MIMO MC-CDMA systems. Some simulation examples for uplink scenario are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology is emerging as a promising choice for upcoming sixth-generation (6G) and beyond-fifth-generation (B5G) networks due to the advancements in AI. However, the complexity of MIMO systems, which involve numerous antennas, results in a challenging detection process with high computational demands. To address the interference challenges inherent in large-scale MIMO technology, this research proposes a 6G massive MIMO signal identification algorithm that integrates a Dynamic Sparse Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (DSR-CNN) with White Shark Optimization (WSO) into conventional MIMO receivers. The DSR-CNN dynamically refines proposal boxes and features, enhancing detection accuracy by effectively handling complex signal patterns. The WSO optimizes the weight parameters within the R-CNN, improving the algorithm's convergence toward optimal solutions. This hybrid methodology significantly reduces bit error rates (BER) and enhances detection performance, making it ideally suited to the advanced requirements of 6G networks. The proposed approach, DSR-CNN-WSO, not only improves accuracy and efficiency but also seamlessly integrates with existing MIMO systems, offering a robust solution for future wireless communication technologies. The proposed method achieves significantly lower BER (0.01) and Mean Square Error (MSE) (0.1), indicating more reliable bit detection and more accurate signal detection.

Time Reversal Linearly Constrained Minimum Power Algorithm for Direction of Arrival Estimation in Diffuse Multipath Environments

Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation in diffuse multipath environments is a challenge for ground-based radar remote sensing applications, which has significant value in military fields, such as air defense surveillance. However, radar received echo usually contains various multipath signals caused by the reflection of complex ground or sea surface. With the introduction of multipath signals, traditional algorithms' performance on angle estimation decreases severely. In response to this problem, the letter proposes a new time reversal (TR) algorithm used for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar angle estimation. First, the algorithm reconstructs a TR covariance matrix by multiplexing the data's rows and columns, increasing the estimation accuracy of the TR covariance matrix. Besides, the letter applies a linearly constrained minimum power (LCMP) constraint to suppress diffuse multipath signals according to the prior knowledge of environments. Simulation results examine the improvement of estimation accuracy by the proposed algorithm, also verify the superiority of the proposed algorithm in different multipath scenarios. What's more, the algorithm has broader applicability due to avoiding the difficulties of removing the coherence and estimating multipath number in practice.

Full-duplex (FD) communication and spatial modulation (SM) are two promising techniques to achieve high spectral efficiency. Recent works in the literature have investigated the possibility of combining the FD mode with SM in the relay system to benefit their advantages. In this paper, we analyze the performance of the FD-SM decode-and-forward (DF) relay system and derive the closed-form expression for the symbol error probability (SEP). To tackle the residual self-interference (RSI) due to the FD mode at the relay, we propose a simple yet effective power allocation algorithm to compensate for the RSI impact and improve the system SEP performance. Both numerical and simulation results confirm the accuracy of the derived SEP expression and the efficacy of the proposed optimal power allocation.

multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology is becoming mature in wireless communication systems. It has led to third and fourth generation wireless systems, which has been providing good range, reliability and higher data rates. For the increased demand of much higher data rates, coverage, spectral efficiency, capacity and reduced latency, the evolution of the next generation i.e.., the fifth generation technology is necessary. Massive MIMO technology is one of the most promising solution for the above-mentioned challenge. In massive MIMO, the base station is incorporated with hundreds to thousands of antenna array wherein the degrees of freedom can be exploited and the energy can be efficiently used due to the fact that the extra antennas at the base station helps focus the energy into the smaller regions of space. To reap the benefits provided by the extra antennas, the channel information is necessary which makes it possible to have a reliable communication. Therefore, to acquire the channel knowledge, channel state information is required at the base station and estimating the channel parameters plays an important role. In this paper, we concentrate on estimating the channel parameters for conventional MIMO and massive MIMO based on training-based and blind channel estimation techniques wherein the performance of both is compared.

By combining the polarized modulation and the spatial modulation technique, dual-polarized spatial modulation (DPSM) has been recently proposed for MIMO transmission to improve the spectral efficiency and reduce the space occupancy. The performance of DPSM over correlated Rayleigh and Rice fading channels has been studied, showing that DPSM technique outperforms uni-polarized SM technique. For a general investigation, in this paper, we study the performance of DPSM scheme over Nakagami-m fading channel, which is a more general model than Rayleigh and Rice channel. A tight upper bound of average bit error rate (ABER) for DPSM scheme over Nakagami-m fading channel is derived, based on the ABER framework. In addition, we present detailed analysis of performance for different shape parameter m in the channel model. Finally, we validate the accuracy of the theoretical derivation through the results of the numerical simulations.
