Secret key establishment technique using channel state information driven phase randomisation in multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing

In wireless communication systems, the conventional secret key exchange is based on the public key cryptography, which requires complex computations to retain the secrecy level of these key bits. The proposed physical layer-based algorithms have shown promising performance to extract secret keys from the privately shared randomness relying on the reciprocal channel state between both communicated nodes. In this study, the authors propose a physical layer key exchange method which transmits the key bits by encoding them within some phase randomisation (PR) sequences that are privately indexed to a specific channel criterion. The PR sequences only randomise the data phases and thus no efficiency reduction will be incurred. In fact, by choosing a pool of randomisation sequences with certain statistical properties, they could also be used to condition the signal to meet physical layer transmission requirements such as bandwidth, envelope and so on. They quantify the potential of the proposed method by demonstrating it within the context of a multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system. The results reveal that, relative to existing techniques, the proposed method offers superior key error rate performance at lower computational complexity with better secrecy level.

Turbo-Coded Mimo-OFDM Channel Estimation Using the Chaotic Grey Wolf Optimizer and Genetic Algorithm

Turbo-Coded multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing Channel Estimation, using Chaotic Grey Wolf Optimizer and the Genetic Algorithm (TC-MIMO-OFDM-Hybrid-CGWO-GA), is proposed in this manuscript. To enhance the performance of the bit error rate (BER), the proposed turbo code lessens the maximal correlation of the channel in the frequency domain. Initially, the channel is estimated using LS-MMSE individually using Chaotic Grey Wolf Optimizer (CGWO) and the LS-MMSE is combined with a genetic algorithm to scale the best channel for reducing the error. The encoding and decoding methods are done with the help of Turbo-codes for LS channel estimation. Then, the performance of the proposed method is analyzed with different performance metrics, such as the bit error rate, mean square error, channel estimation, computational cost, overhead, and symbol error rate. From the analysis, the proposed method attains lower computational costs of 99.67%, 98.38%, 92.34% and 97.45%, lower bit error rates of 98.33%, 89.34%, 83.12% and 88.96% and lower mean square errors of 93.15%, 91.25%, 79.90% and 92.88% analyzed to the existing methods, such as TSO-CE-TC-MIMO-OFDM, MFPA-CE-MIMO-OFDM, OSBS-CEA-MIMO-OFDM, and IAMO-CE-MIMO-OFDM.

In the next generation of communication networks, mobile networks and widely deployed based stations will achieve statisfactory integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) functions under the standard multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) architecture and waveform. In this paper, we focuse on an ISAC system based on a MIMO OFDM radar and propose a Two-Stage mutiple signal Classification (MUSIC) direction of arrival (DoA) estimation algorithm. In order to achieve a precise estimation while maintaining low computational cost, an estimate on the direction of the user is roughly obtained in the first stage, and then refined in the second stage. Compared with traditional DoA estimation algorithms including MUSIC and discrete fourier transform-compressed sensing, the root mean square error (RMSE) for multi-target DoA estimation can be reduced by two orders of mangnitude under the same computational cost.

Index modulation (IM) brings the reduction of power consumption and complexity of transmitter to classical multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems. However, due to the introduction of IM, the complexity of the detector at receiver is greatly increased. Furthermore, the detector also requires the channel state information at receiver (CSIR), which leads to high system overhead. To tackle these challenges, in this paper, we introduce deep learning (DL) in designing a non-iterative detector. Specifically, based on the structural sparsity of the transmitted signal in IM aided MIMO-OFDM (IM-MIMO-OFDM) systems, we first formulate the detection process as a sparse reconstruction problem. Then, a DL based detector called IMNet, which combines two subnets with the traditional least square method, is designed to recover the transmitted signal. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt that designs the DL based detector for IM-MIMO-OFDM systems. Finally, to verify the adaptability and robustness of IMNet, simulations are carried out with consideration of correlated MIMO channels and imperfect CSIR. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed IMNet outperforms existing detectors in terms of bit error rate and computational complexity under various scenarios.

Reduced complexity detection technique for layered space time block coded multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing

The combination of vertical Bell Labs layered space time (V-BLAST) and space time block coding (STBC), known as a Layered STBC (LSTBC) system, offers high spectral efficiency with a higher order of diversity. The system structure, computational complexity and error performance of the V-BLAST and LSTBC multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems are analysed and compared. It is shown that, compared with V-BLAST, the overall diversity order of LSTBC increases two fold. This diversity gain is achieved at the expense of a four-fold increase in the computational complexity of the QR decomposition (QRD) algorithm, required at the receiver of both LSTBC and V-BLAST. The authors propose a modified QRD algorithm which reduces this four-fold complexity to two fold.

PAPR Reduction in MIMO-OFDM by Using Active Partial Sequence

multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) modeling through the use of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) offers a viable alternative to reduce bandwidth and simultaneously improves the quality of service of wireless mobile communication. One of the major concerns in the MIMO-OFDM system is the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). In this article, a combinational scheme, active partial sequence (APS), is proposed to combat PAPR in MIMO-OFDM under Rayleigh fading environment. The key idea of the APS method is to combine the approximate gradient project followed by partial transmit sequence technique. The simulation results show that the proposed method achieves a significant reduction in PAPR and maintains the same data rate without sacrificing the BER performance over other conventional techniques.
