A low angle estimation method in the presence of the multipath for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar is proposed. The multipath signal model for MIMO radar is constructed with both transmitted multipath and received multipath signals being considered. To reduce the computational burden and retain estimation precision, the beam-space maximum likelihood algorithm is developed for angle estimation. This method overcomes multipath effects for low angle measurement, and only requires one one-dimension search procedure. Simulation results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this letter, we jointly design the transmit signals and the receive combining filter based on exact information on the locations of target and interferences in co-located multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radars. The idea behind the proposed method is to maximize the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) without designing the waveform covariance matrix and exploit the advantages of MIMO radar. Each transmit element sends linear combinations of the orthogonal waveforms by a weighting matrix. Numerical results show the improvement in the SINR performance offered by using the proposed algorithm compared to the phased array and existing MIMO radar techniques.

Adaptive Bayesian Detection Using MIMO radar in Spatially Heterogeneous Clutter

This letter considers adaptive target detection problem using multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar in the presence of spatially heterogeneous clutter. The covariances of the primary data and secondary data for the same and different transmit-receive pairs are modeled as different random matrices with partial priori knowledge of the environment. Two-step strategy is employed to design adaptive detector. Specifically, we first obtain the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) detector by assuming the known matrices. Then, we derive the maximum posteriori (MAP) estimator of the covariance matrices by exploiting the priori information, and replace the given covariance matrices in the obtained GLRT with MAP estimates. Finally, we evaluate the proposed adaptive detector via numerical simulations.

A Novel TSWLS Method for Moving Target Localization in Distributed MIMO radar Systems

In this letter, the moving target localization problem is studied under distributed multiple-input multiple-output radar systems. Based on the two-stage weighted least squares framework, a closed-form solution of target position and velocity is derived. In the first stage, linear equations about target position and velocity are established with no nuisance parameters. Then the estimate is achieved by a weighted least squares (WLS) estimator. In the second stage, the estimation error of the first stage is estimated by another WLS method to refine the localization performance. The final estimate, combining solutions of the first stage and the second stage, is approximately unbiased and its covariance is equal to the Cramer-Rao lower bound under small noise conditions through the theoretical derivation and numerical simulations. Simulation results demonstrate the proposed method achieves better location accuracy than the state-of-the-art algorithms.

Repeat radar jammer suppression for a colocated MIMO radar

The digital radio frequency memory repeat jammer, which replicates transmit signals and transmits them back to a radar receiver to mimic real targets, is a notably efficient electronic countermeasure device. It has been pointed out that the colocated multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar has an additional advantage in combatting with repeat jammers whose amplifiers operate in the saturation mode and thus can only transmit constant-modulus waveforms, because the amplitude modulation of angular waveforms is difficult to simulate for them. Two waveform design criteria are presented, and both suppress a mutual correlation between angular waveforms and corresponding constant-modulus jamming signals. The two approaches differ on whether the receive beamforming operation is considered. Numerical results validate that the two approaches can both efficiently suppress the mutual correlation and that the second approach outperforms the first approach in terms of the peak sidelobe level.

In this paper, an interference suppression method based on beamforming is proposed. By combining minimum redundancy array (MRA) and frequency diverse array (FDA) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar, an FDA-MRMO radar suppression interference method is proposed. The MRA is adopted at its transmit port, breaking the limitation on the suppressible number of the mainlobe deceptive interference. The MRA is employed to obtain extended DOF by using a difference coarray, resulting in the suppressible number of order O(2M) with M transmit element number. The mainlobe interference is suppressed by the transmit dimension nonadaptive method, and the sidelobe barrage interference is suppressed by the Generalized sidelobe canceller(GSC) method in the receive dimension. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

We study the waveform design problem for a multiple-input multiple-output over-the-horizon (MIMO-OTH) radar system faced with a combination of additive Gaussian noise and signal dependent clutter. Considering the operational frequency of the MIMO-OTH radar is generally limited to a certain frequency band due to propagation and implementation issues, the waveform transmitted at each antenna is constructed as a weighted sum of discrete prolate spheroidal (DPS) sequences which have good orthogonal and band-limited properties. Optimum waveforms (possibly nonorthogonal) are designed to maximize the target detection performance of the MIMO-OTH radar system with the constraint of fixed total transmitted energy. The performance of the proposed waveforms is analyzed.

In this paper, the element-pulse coding (EPC) based multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar is studied for resolving range ambiguity in clutter-free scenario. The fundamental transmit and receive procedures as well as the relationship between encoding and decoding are presented. To address the range ambiguity issue, the EPC entries in element dimension are extended to be an arbitrary permutation of the Fourier basis entries. The beampattern is designed to extract the desired target signal while suppressing targets from nuisance range regions. Both conventional and enhanced array beamforming methods are discussed. Simulation examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar with frequency diverse array (FDA) produces a range-angle dependent steering vector, which can provide more degree of freedom (DOES) to suppress the deceptive jamming in joint transmit-receive domain. However, the suppression performance of deceptive jamming would degrade significantly in the presence of target steering vector mismatch. In this paper, with the prior knowledge of possible target region, a robust deceptive jamming suppression method based on covariance matrix reconstruction with FDA-MIMO radar is proposed, which can significantly improve the performance of deceptive jamming suppression. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method under different scenarios.

In this paper, we investigate into joint direction-of-departure (DOD) and direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation for bistatic multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar in the presence of gain-phase error and mutual coupling error. An auxiliary sensors-based framework is proposed, the matched array measurement of the MIMO radar is formulated as a parallel factor (PARAFAC) model, which links the problem of joint DOD and DOA estimation to PARAFAC decomposition. Thereafter, the DODs and DOAs are obtained via least square strategy. The proposed method is computationally more efficient than the existing reduced-MUSIC method. Besides, it can achieve closed-form solutions for DODs and DOAs, which are paired automatically. Numerical experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.
