Our research is focussed on keeping both local and PVM jobs together in a time-sharing Network Of Workstations (NOW) and efficiently scheduling them by means of dynamic coscheduling mechanisms. In this framework, we s...

Using an analytic queueing network model with limited multiprogramming level and constrained memory, we study the variations in interactive response times due to changes in multiprogramming limit. We examine both open...

The advantages of using a writable control memory with an automatic loading feature are pointed out. One scheme for the organisation of such a system is described in detail and its use in a multiprogramming environmen...

dOur interest is oriented towards keeping both local and parallel jobs together in a time-sharing non-dedicated cluster. In such systems, dynamic coscheduling techniques, without memory restriction, that consider the multiprogramming Level for parallel applications (MPL), is a main goal in current cluster research. In this paper, a new technique called Cooperating Coscheduling (CCS), that combines a dynamic coscheduling system and a resource balancing schema, is applied. The main aim of CCS is to allow the efficient execution of parallel tasks from the system and parallel user points of view without disturbing the local jobs. Its feasibility is shown experimentally in a PVM-Linux cluster.

We have presented models for multitype job traffic in a simple cyclic queueing model of a multiprograrmning computer system (termed MM models), and have shown how such models may yield numerical results by use of a variation of the Gauss-Seidel iteration algorithm. Lastly, we have indicated the manner in which a simple Gordon and Newell Markov model may be fitted to MM data, and have shown that satisfactory predictions of some system characteristics may he obtained thereby.
