This paper presents a method based on niche genetic algorithm (NGA) and Minimum Spanning Tree (MST) for substation planning. The problem of substation planning is divided into two parts: one is the capacity-determining and another is location-determining. The customer loads are represented a tree built by MST Through clustering the loads, the capacity of every substation is calculated, and then the least square method is used to determine the location of substation with the objective Junction of minimal cost. NGA is employed to optimize the above process. Large amount of experiments show the effectiveness of our algorithm comparing with the other methods.

High-Precision Demodulation Method for Surface Acoustic Wave Strain Sensor Based on Hybrid Changing Area niche genetic algorithm

The echo signal energy of surface acoustic wave (SAW) strain sensor is weak, resulting in low demodulation accuracy. In order to improve the measurement result, a SAW sensor demodulation method by combining hybrid changing area niche genetic algorithm and MUSIC algorithm was proposed. The proposed method was based on the MUSIC algorithm to construct the power spectrum function of SAW echo signal. A hybrid changing area niche genetic algorithm (CANGA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm was developed to improve the spectrum peak search accuracy and reduce the amount calculations of MUSIC algorithm. The power spectrum function of the MUSIC algorithm was used as the fitness function of the hybrid algorithm. The echo frequency was estimated by the variable value corresponding to the optimal solution. The proposed hybrid PSO-CANGA has the characteristics of strong global search ability and fast convergence speed to improve the performance of MUSIC algorithm. The numerical comparisons were performed. The results showed that the hybrid PSO-CANGA gives fastest convergence and the highest estimation accuracy compared to original PSO and NGA. In addition, compared with traditional spectrum estimation algorithms, the proposed algorithm had a minimum estimation error with standard deviation of 0.27KHz. The proposed demodulation method was used to SAW strain system. The nonlinearity of the strain measurement was improved, with a nonlinearity of 0.55%. Simulation and experiment results verified the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm for the demodulation of the SAW strain sensor system. It helps to improve the accuracy of SAW strain measurement.

Resources scheduling for data relay satellite with microwave and optical hybrid links based on improved niche genetic algorithm

The formation of the Space-based Information System with the technology of high performance optical inter-satellite communication and the realization of global seamless coverage and mobile terminal accessing are the necessary trend of the development of optical and microwave hybrid communication. Considering the resources, missions and restraints of data relay satellite optical and microwave hybrid links system, a model of hybrid links resources scheduling is established and a scheduling algorithm based on an improved niche genetic algorithm is put forwarded. According to the multi-user-satellite, multi-time-window, multi-class-antenna and a number of missions with priority weight, the scheduling schemes are generated randomly to begin with and evaluated with the fitness functions. To obtain an optimal scheduling result, an improved niche genetic algorithm is adopted to optimize the scheduling schemes. The simulation result reveals that a satisfactory result is obtained and the improved niche genetic algorithm has advantages in both efficiency and performance in a scenario including a relay satellite with 2 optical antennas and 1 microwave antenna for user satellites connection, 8 user satellites with 64 missions. The simulation indicates that the model and the optimization algorithm are suitable for multi-user, multi-mission and multi-class-antenna hybrid communication recourses scheduling problem. A Map Reduce based Parallel niche genetic algorithm for contaminant source identification in water distribution network

In recent years, water pollution incidents happen frequently, causing serious disasters and society impact. It is advocated that water quality monitoring sensors shall be deployed in water distribution network to enable real-time pollution detection such that we can effectively detect the water pollution event to reduce the risk. Besides event detection, it is also important to identify the contaminant source for depollution actions. But how to use the information derived from the monitoring sensors to identify the contaminant source is a non-trivial task. Contamination source identification problem is characterized by its extremely high computation complexity, uncertainty and non-uniqueness of the solution in a large-scale water distribution network with dynamic water demands. To tackle this issue, we develop a MapReduce based Parallel niche genetic algorithm (MR-PNGA) that is not only able to achieve high identification accuracy but also to explore the cloud resources for performance improvement. The accuracy and efficiency of MR-PNGA is extensively validated on an 8-server cluster. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

GPS location data is rapidly increasing and has become an important part of spatial information technology and its applications. In order to use K-means to discover hidden information behind GPS data, the drawbacks of K-means must be addressed, such as the difficulty of discovering the number of clusters, sensitivity to initial cluster center (seed) selection, and ease of falling into local optima. This paper presents a novel sharing-based niche genetic algorithm (NGA) with a novel initial population approach based on hybrid K-means to obtain the best chromosome which is then used to perform K-means clustering (termed nicheClust). SSE, DB-index, PBM-index, and COSEC are used as fitness functions for NGA. The experimental results demonstrate that nicheClust has high performance and efficiency for three GPS location datasets.

A multi-criteria ranking method about interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets is introduced into the automatic negotiation model to weaken the subjectivity of preference information report from negotiation Agents. Using evidential reasoning algorithms, the criteria values are aggregated and the interval intuitionist fuzzy sets of alternatives are obtained;considering the incomplete certain information on weight, a nonlinear programming model is developed and the weight of various attribute is obtained. The niche genetic algorithm is proposed to search optimization and improve astringency. Finally, a simulation testing shows the model is a feasible and effective, which can help negotiation Agents to reach quickly a mutually beneficial agreement objectively.

The advance of micro-sensor, nano-systems and networking technologies shown a great potential of small-size, low energy consumption, low storage, and self-adaptation sensors. Large scale wireless sensor networks (LSWSNs) consists of some them that have sensing, computation, wireless communication, and free-infrastructure abilities. The target signal selection problem in LSWSNs attracts attention of people from academic researchers, industry, and military department. The target signal selection scheme is usually designed for LSWSNs to enhance the percentage of detected targets. However, the target signal selection problem can be formulated as a non linear mixed integer optimization problem, which is hard to solve. In this paper, we propose a chaotic immune niche genetic algorithm (CINGA) based target signal selection approach for maximizing the percentage of detected targets. We first formulate our objective function to maximize the percentage of detected targets under multiple constraints. The proposed algorithm combines the advantages of the high efficiency of immune operation and the global search ability of the chaotic generator. An analysis is given to show the correctness of CINGA, and simulations are conducted to demonstrate the performance improvement of CINGA against parallel genetic algorithm (PGA) and ant colony optimizatiaon (ACO). Although sub-optimal for LSWSNs, simulation results show that the proposed CINGA llows to reach higher monitoring percentage compared to PGA and ACO approach. Furthermore, it was found that the immune operation helps evolution to avoid local optima.

niche genetic algorithm (NGA) is proposed to recognize a disconnected nonparametric curve from a noisy binary image. The fitness function used in the NGA is derived from the hypothesis: Human Visual Tradition Model (HVTM). Sharing function based niche technique and elite-preserving strategy are utilized to preserve population variety for converging at the global optimum. It has the advantage of using a nonparametric method to extract disconnected curves from the noisy binary image other than the parametric method, which Hough Transform (HT) can conclude. The curve extracted by using the nonparametric method is verified by comparing the best strings respectively along rows and columns in the permutation-based encoding space. The curve length can be derived automatically from the image by calculating the accumulation of the distance between the neighbor tiles in the extracted curve. In this paper, it is analyzed that the odd order moments of the tiles in the raw image is more sensitive to the tiles with cracks other than tiles with only noise, the algorithm complexity is sensitive to encoding approach, the evolution converge characteristics are sensitive to sharing function and parameters in fitness function. Experimental results present that the approach was successfully used in pavement crack detection.

For multi-objective optimization problems, an improved multi-objective adaptive niche genetic algorithm based on Pareto Front is proposed in this paper. In this algorithm, the rank value and the niche value are introduced to evaluate the individuals. The evolution population adopts the adaptive-crossover and adaptive-mutation probability, which can adjust the search scope according to solution quality. The experimental results show that this algorithm convergent faster and is able to achieve a broader distribution of the Pareto optimal solution.

In order to improve the search efficiency of focused crawler, we design a new crawling strategy based on the niche genetic algorithm. Rather than colleting and indexing all accessible hypertext documents to be able to answer all possible ad-hoc queries, the new crawling strategy, combined the advantages of hyperlinks structure and web content strategies, uses hyperlink as genetic individual and topic-words based VSM is used to evaluate individual fitness, and imports new URLs to implement crossover and mutation, and the URLs that have the same prefix are regarded as niche. Guide the crawl direction by niche genetic algorithm to selectively seek out pages that are likely to be most relevant to a pre-defined set of topics. Compared with the other algorithms, experiments show that the strategy has higher precision and recall in searching the topic pages.
