nonlinear precoding Design for MIMO Amplify-and-Forward Two-Way Relay Systems

In traditional multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) channel and MIMO one-way relay system, nonlinear precoding design has shown significant performance gain over linear design. In this paper, we aim to study nonlinear precoding design for MIMO amplify-and-forward (AF) two-way relay systems, where nonlinear minimal mean square error (MMSE) decision feedback equalizers (DFEs) are used in two destinations, and linear transmit precoding is applied at the source and relay nodes. We first investigate nonlinear precoding design, where the precoding is only conducted at two sources for a fixed-relay precoder. After some transformations, we prove that this design problem is convex, and an efficient algorithm is provided to find the optimal solution. Then, we consider the nonlinear joint precoding design to further incorporate relay precoding. Due to the nonconvexity of this problem, we first propose an iterative algorithm (Algorithm I) to approach the optimal solution. It is proven that Algorithm I is convergent and can converge to a stationary point of the joint design problem. Moreover, we present a simplified iterative algorithm (Algorithm II) for joint precoding design to reduce the design complexity. It is found that Algorithm II almost achieves the same performance as Algorithm I in most cases. Our simulation results show that the proposed nonlinear joint precoding design significantly outperforms the linear joint precoding design. It is also shown that the choice between the proposed nonlinear source precoding design and the linear relay precoding design is dependent on specific conditions.

This paper proposes novel nonlinear precoding for XOR-physical layer network coding (XOR-PNC) to improve the performance of bi-directional MIMO relay systems. The proposed precoder comprises a pre-equalizer and a nonlinear filter, which we also propose in the paper. We theoretically analyze the performance of the XOR-PNC with the proposed nonlinear precoding. As a result, it is shown that the proposed pre-equalizer improves the distribution of the received signals at relays, while the nonlinear precoder not only improves the transmission power efficiency but also simplifies the receiver at the relays. The performance is confirmed by computer simulation. The XOR-PNC with the proposed precoding achieves almost the lower bound in BER performance, which is much better than the amplify-and-forward physical layer network coding (AF-PNC).

We consider a multipair half-duplex relay communication network, where the relay is deployed with one-analog-to-digital converters and one-bit digital-to-analog converters. To suppress the interpair interference and quantization artifacts, we propose nonlinear precoding schemes to forward the quantized signals at the relay. We first present a technique based on gradient projection, and then show how to refine the solution using ordered quantization and perturbation methods. For the single-user case with BPSK symbols, we obtain a closed-form solution for the optimal transmit vector. Numerical results verify that the proposed precoding design significantly outperforms quantized linear precoding strategies.

Low-Complexity MU-MIMO nonlinear precoding Using Degree-2 Sparse Vector Perturbation

Multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) nonlinear precoding techniques face the problem of poor computational scalability to the size of the network. In this paper, the fundamental problem of MU-MIMO scalability is tackled through a novel signal-processing approach, which is called degree-2 vector perturbation (D2VP). Unlike the conventional VP approaches that aim at minimizing the transmit-to-receive energy ratio through searching over an N-dimensional Euclidean space, D2VP shares the same target through an iterative-optimization procedure. Each iteration performs vector perturbation over two optimally selected subspaces. By this means, the computational complexity is managed to be in the cubic order of the size of MU-MIMO, and this mainly comes from the inverse of the channel matrix. In terms of the performance, it is shown that D2VP offers comparable bit-error-rate to the sphere encoding approach for the case of small MU-MIMO. For the case of medium and large MU-MIMO when the sphere encoding does not apply due to unimplementable complexity, D2VP outperforms the lattice-reduction VP by around 5-10 dB in Eb/ No and 10-50 dB in normalized computational complexity.

In this paper,we present a novel and robust nonlinear precoding(NLP)design and detection structure specifically tailored for multiple-input multipleoutput space division multiple access(MIMO-SDMA)systems toward 6G *** approach aims to effectively mitigate the impact of imperfect channel estimation by leveraging the channel fluctuation mean square error(MSE)for reconstructing a highly accurate precoding matrix at the ***,we introduce a simplified receiver structure that eliminates the need for equalization,resulting in reduced interference and notable enhancements in overall system *** conduct both computer simulations and experimental tests to validate the efficacy of our proposed *** results reveals that the proposed NLP scheme offers significant performance improvements,making it particularly well-suited for the forthcoming 6G wireless.

Joint Linear and nonlinear precoding in MIMO Systems

Multiuser MIMO vector perturbation precoding facilitates multiple representations of the transmit symbols in order to improve transmit power normalisation of the transmitted signal. All the receiver needs to do is to apply a modulo operation to undo the perturbation. However existing system with multiuser MIMO support, such as LTE, employ linear precoding. This means that these legacy users will not be able to operate together with new users with vector perturbation capabilities, reducing the system throughput and flexibility in resource allocation. In this paper we present a novel precoding technique which allows the joint precoding of legacy and new users. The precoding ensures that no perturbations are made to linearly precoded users, while minimising the power normalisation using a modified sphere encoder. We also show that the diversity order of the joint precoding scheme is the difference between the number of transmit antennas and the number of legacy users, regardless of the number of new users.

nonlinear Tomlinson-Harashima precoding has been proposed as a near-optimal interference mitigation technique for downstream transmission in G. fast systems, particularly in the transmit spectrum above 106 MHz. We propose an alternative implementation of Tomlinson-Harashima precoding and examine performance of the common and alternative implementations with respect to quantization errors and imperfect channel state information. We show that Tomlinson-Harashima precoding is more sensitive than optimized linear precoding to varying channel state information due to fluctuations in ambient conditions and sudden changes in termination impedance. We also show that Tomlinson-Harashima precoding only outperforms optimized linear precoding when the channel state information is almost perfectly known.

This paper examines nonlinear hybrid precoding with minimum mean square error (MMSE)-vector perturbation (VP) for multi-cell massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. Two-timescale channel state information (CSI) is assumed, which consists of short-term noisy observations of the RF-precoded MIMO channel, and perfect knowledge of the long-term channel temporal and spatial correlation. By exploiting the low-dimensional effective CSI, we propose to estimate the instantaneous realization of the high-dimensional CSI via Kalman filtering. The CSI estimate is then utilized for RF precoding in consideration of centralized and distributed MMSE-VP at baseband. By abstracting the effect of nonlinear baseband precoding, RF precoding is separately formulated as a solution to balance the error performance of signal detection with the accuracy of channel tracking. To solve such nonconvex problems, we develop Cayley transformation-based gradient descent algorithms. Numerical results demonstrate the benefits of incorporating CSI tracking into hybrid precoding from its superior bit error rate to other transmit spatial correlation-based baselines, and its improved resilience to the channel estimation errors over the fully digital counterpart.

An iterative nonlinear precoding technique based on the Tomlinson-Harashima precoder is proposed for MU-MIMO to alleviate the performance degradation due to mismatches between actual Channel State Information (CSI) and impaired CSI available at the transmitter. A robust design is presented to feedback the effective channel rather than the nonprecoded channel for relay backhaul channel. A Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) generation is proposed for the base station (eNB) to estimate the receivers' signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio taking into account impact of quantization errors. Numerical studies verify that the combination of the proposed iterative precoding and effective channel feedback significantly reduces the high sensitivity to quantization errors and improves the quality of radio link between the eNB and receiver. The proposed CQI feedback method enables the transmitter to accurately derive the effective channel quality seen by the receiver. Therefore, a tight link adaptation loop can be achieved to fully utilize the improved radio link.
