Lithium-ion batteries have garnered widespread popularity in recent years due to their high energy density and strong cycling performance. However, with the continued advancement of their specific energy, the issue of internal short-circuit faults has emerged as a primary safety concern, leading to significant personal injuries and economic losses for users. Despite the urgency of the matter, current studies on internal short-circuit faults suffer from inadequate fault modeling schemes. To address this need, our paper endeavors to establish a total parameter estimation model in order to accurately ascertain the kinetic and transfer properties of lithium-ion batteries. Additionally, we have constructed an electrochemical-thermal coupling 3D model to simulate the electro-thermal behavior of batteries experiencing internal short-circuit faults, which will enable us to extract the electrothermal characteristics and fault features of batteries throughout the evolution of said faults. © 2023 IEEE.

Gas-liquid-solid flow is an important phenomenon in large-scale industrial processes. The difficulties in numerical simulations of these processes lie in the problems of high calculation cost for a large-scale sys-tem, the simultaneous occurrence of dispersed and sedimented particle flows, and the coexistence of solid particles and a gas-liquid free surface. In this study, a numerical simulation model of gas-liquid- solid flows was developed based on the continuum description. The volume-of-fluid (VOF) method and granular flow model were coupled in the proposed model. As a result, the proposed model is applicable to gas-liquid-solid flows where a gas-liquid free surface and solid-particle flows coexist. In addition, the use of the granular flow model enabled simultaneous simulations of dispersed and sedimented particle flows. Based on the continuum description, the proposed model has the advantage of low calculation cost compared to the DEM-VOF method. numerical simulations were conducted to verify the model for the submerged granular collapse, floated granular collapse, water entry, and oscillation on a free surface. The results of the numerical simulations using the proposed model were compared with the simulation results using the DEM-VOF method, experimental results or theoretical relationships. These comparisons indicate that the proposed model is reasonably applicable to the gas-liquid-solid flows. In addition, the limitations of the model were evident in the granular flow along a gas-liquid surface under the influence of capillary effects. Therefore, if the solid particles are small such that the capillary effect is not negligible, the capillary effect should be considered for more accurate numerical simulations.(c) 2023 Elsevier Ltd. Research on a numerical simulation model of Marine Drifting Debris: A Case Study of Penghu Waters

In recent years, the problem of global warming has become increasingly serious. Other problems such as marine pollution are also of concern with regard to environmental loads. These problems create serious ecological imbalances, and human health may be harmed. Fish, turtles, and other creatures in the ocean are also seriously threatened. In addition, marine debris negatively impacts the economy and destroys the recreational quality of beaches, making it one of the most pressing environmental problems globally. In Taiwan, research on marine debris is scarce;hence, it is necessary to collect reliable data through a standardized process and gather data collected from different periods, sea areas, and fishing vessels for overall analysis. This research uses the sbPOM ocean model. sbPOM is based on the parallelized ocean model developed by Stony Brook University in 2012 under the POM architecture. The simulation time is selected from July 1, 2022, to August 31, 2022, and the simulation and verification data range is 116 degrees-127 degrees east longitude and 17.5 degrees-28.5 degrees north latitude (middle area). Correlated with the observation data of the Central Meteorological Bureau of Taiwan and the model water flow, the comparison results were consistent and good.

Based on the mixed-lubrication theory, a numerical simulation model of a reciprocating seal is established. The model includes finite element, fluid mechanics, contact mechanics and deformation mechanics analyses. The hydrodynamic analysis uses elastohydrodynamic lubrication theory and inverse hydrodynamic lubrication to obtain the relationship between fluid pressure and film thickness, while the contact mechanics analysis obtains the relationship between the asperity contact pressure and film thickness. The influence of the coefficient matrix and static contact pressure is calculated by the finite element analysis. The coupling relationship among the fluid pressure, asperity contact pressure and static contact pressure is provided by the influence coefficient method of the deformation mechanics analysis. The calculation results of the numerical model are verified by experimental results, which are measured by the bench test developed by the authors.

A hybrid power train, consisting of a Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell (PEFC) system and batteries, which feeds an electric motor for city bus propulsion, can be dimensioned ad hoc respect to the performed route, avoiding his oversizing in the greater energy rationalization optic. In this article a calculation tool is developed and implemented in Matlab (R) and Simulink (R) environments in such a way that it can be used both for verifying the electric motor proper operation in the route and for dimensioning the hybrid system (PEFC system and batteries), after that city bus characteristics and route have been defined. It considers the electric energy recoverable by city bus both downhill and in the deceleration phase (regenerative braking), can simulate various traffic conditions and can be used to obtain a good estimate of both the hydrogen amount on city bus board and the batteries state of charge along the route. Enhanced Erosion Resistance of Cr3C2-TiC-NiCrCoMo Coatings: Experimental and numerical Investigation of Erosion Mechanisms

To enhance the erosion resistance of typical Cr3C2-NiCr coatings, the Cr3C2-TiC-NiCrCoMo (NCT) coating was developed and deposited by high-velocity oxygen fuel spray (HVOF). The erosion resistance and mechanisms of the coating were investigated using numerical simulations and experimental methods. A comprehensive calculation model for the coating erosion rate was developed, incorporating factors such as the properties of the eroded particles, the characteristics of the coating, and the conditions of erosion. The erosion rate of the NCT coating was calculated and predicted by the model, and the accuracy of these predictions was validated through experiments. The NCT1 (87.3 wt.% Cr3C2-NiCrCoMo/3 wt.% TiC)coating demonstrated exceptional erosion resistance compared to the original Cr3C2-NiCrCoMo (NCC) coatings with reduced erosion rates of 23.64%, 20.45%, and 16.22% at impact angles of 30 degrees, 60 degrees, and 90 degrees, respectively. The addition of nano-TiC particles into the NCT1 coating enhances the yield strength, impeding the intrusion of erosive particles at low angles and supporting the metal binder phase, eventually reducing fatigue fracture under repeated erosion. However, excessive nano-TiC content degrades the erosion resistance due to the increase in pores and cracks within the coating.

The effect of temperature on the sealability of bismuth-tin alloy plugs

Innovative solutions for plugging oil and gas wells are becoming increasingly important to ensure safe operations, save costs, and guarantee that the wells are sealed with a long-term perspective. Among these innovations, bismuth alloys have emerged as a potential sealing material, attracting attention for their distinctive properties. Despite the promising characteristics of bismuth alloys, comprehensive testing is required to fully understand their behavior and to validate their suitability as a sealing barrier. This study focuses on testing the sealability of eutectic bismuth-tin alloy plugs across a range of temperatures (23-120 degrees C). Examining this influence is crucial because bismuth alloys can be engineered to have specific melting points and characteristics, allowing them to respond effectively to the prevailing temperature conditions in the wellbore. To this end, the study employs an integrated approach, combining laboratory experiments and numerical simulations, to assess the performance of the plug under the influence of the variables pressure, temperature, and curing time through push-out tests. Preliminary results indicate that the sealing efficiency of the bismuth-tin alloy tends to increase over time at lower temperatures, whereas it decreases significantly as temperatures approach its melting point. Therefore, the eutectic bismuth-tin alloy can be employed safely as an environmental plug, but its applicability as a deep-set plug in high-temperature wells is questioned. In this case, selecting an alloy that has a higher melting point is recommended. This work not only underscores the necessity of understanding the thermodynamic influences on bismuth alloys but also sets the stage for future innovations in well sealing technologies, potentially establishing new industry standards.

Unveiling dioxin dynamics: A whole-process simulation study of municipal solid waste incineration

Theoretical research has explained the process of dioxin (DXN) formation in the municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI). This process includes the generation, adsorption, and emission of DXN. Actual DXN concentrations often significantly deviate from theoretical models. This discrepancy is influenced by several key factors: the type of integrated municipal solid waste (MSW) treatment process, the characteristics of the waste, and the operational controls. The progression of DXN generation, adsorption, and emission concentrations within the MSWI process remains unclear. This lack of clarity is especially pronounced when examining the accounting for the specific components of the MSW. To unravel the evolution of DXN, this article proposes a comprehensive numerical simulation model for the entire process of DXN concentration in an MSWI plant. The model is designed based on existing knowledge of MSW combustion and DXN mechanisms, leveraging FLIC and ASPEN simulation software. It incorporates six key stages to facilitate the DXN simulation: precipitation and formation, high- temperature pyrolysis, high-temperature gas-phase synthesis, low-temperature catalytic synthesis, adsorption on activated carbon, and emission to the atmosphere. Under both benchmark and multiple operating conditions, the simulated experiments confirm the effective representation of the evolution of DXN concentrationsthroughout the process. Consequently, this study presents a model designed to enhance the development of strategies aimed at reducing DXN emissions and to foster innovation in intelligent control technologies.

Influence of sensor installation tilt angle on explosion shock wave pressure test

The surface reflection pressure sensor installation flatness will directly lead to the change of the explosion shock wave pressure propagation and distribution law, affecting the test results accuracy, and the test data cannot accurately evaluate the ammunition explosion damage power. In this study, the numerical simulation model of the explosion shock wave pressure propagation and distribution law was established by using the explosive mechanics simulation software, and the pressure distribution law was studied when the sensors installation angles were 0 & DEG;, 4 & DEG;, 8 & DEG;, 12 & DEG;, -4 & DEG;, -8 & DEG;, and -12 & DEG;respectively. Combined with analysis of the pressure peak value and the pressure evolution nephogram at different measuring points, it is clarified that the positive tilt angle of the sensor installation has an enhancing effect on the pressure peak, while the negative tilt angle has a attenuation effect on the pressure peak. Based on the calculation function formula of the surface reflected pressure peak value in the national defense engineering design code, the surface reflected pressure peak value correction function formula is established by introducing the sensor installation angle correction effect. This study results provide a theoretical basis for the design of ammunition explosion shock wave pressure engineering test scheme and the test data validity verification.

Determination of leachate leakage around a valley type landfill and its pollution and risk on groundwater

This paper investigates leachate leakage of a typical valley-type landfill in South China and health risk of groundwater pollution. Through geophysical detection on landfill, chemical analysis of 19 parameters such as pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), total hardness (TH), potassium permanganate index (CODMn), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), sulfate (SO42-), chloride (Cl-), fluoride (F-), nitrate (NO3-N), nitrite (NO2-N), and heavy metals (Hg, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Cr, Pb and Cd) in groundwater, and model simulation, the prediction of pollution resource and risk level is achieved. This aggregated approach aims to effectively manage and control groundwater contamination and public health risks from the source. The results of transient electromagnetic method showed that four leakage areas of impermeable layer were existed in the landfill, with an area of 336.8 m2 and a depth of 15-22 m. The chemical analysis and pollution assessment revealed that groundwater at ZK01 and ZK04 were heavily polluted, ZK02 and ZK03 were slightly polluted, and ZK05 was non-polluted. Water quality of points ZK01-04 exceeded the standard value of Class III water in the Groundwater Quality Standard (GB/T 14,848-2017), and the main excessive parameters are pH, NH3-N, Mn and Fe. The landfill leakage, rock weathering dissolution and water-rock interaction possibly were the main sources of groundwater pollution through correlation analysis (CA) and principle component analysis (PCA). numerical simulation based on the RBCA (Risk-based Corrective Action) model thought Mn and NO3-N had adverse non-carcinogenic effects o human health risk. Assuming that no pollution control measures are taken, the average increase rate of hazard index (HI) for pollutants within the past 20 years was between 0.04 and 0.08/a, and the average expansion rates of the risk area were 341-432 m2/a.
