Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell Transport Mechanisms: A Universal Approach to Multilayer Two-Phase modeling Through the General Transport Equation

A mathematical multilayer, multispecies two-phase model for polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs) is presented based on fundamental molecular theory using the general transport equation (GTE). The GTE was previously developed and applied to bridge the gap that exists between the benchmark modeling philosophies in the literature for transport across the PEFC. In the current work, the GTE is applied with Darcy's law to describe water transport and water uptake through the porous and quasiporous layers of a PEFC under single-and two-phase operating conditions. The characteristic transport equations and available material properties from the literature are translated into a single-cell fuel cell model, which is implemented using the object modeling technique. The PEFC model is applied to predict and validate the net water transport ratio and water content under a range of operating conditions. The numerical model exhibits good agreement with experimental data under both vapor- and liquid-equilibrated conditions. The model is then applied in a water transport study to determine the effects of cell compression on local water content, liquid water intrusion, water transport, and Ohmic resistance across nonreinforced polymer electrolyte membranes (PEMs) under two-phase operating conditions. The modeling results suggest that the presence of liquid water at the cathodic boundary of the PEM and a well-established liquid water network can affect water uptake and water transport and can reduce the Ohmic resistance of the PEM. Due to their increasing complexity, the development of control software has become a difficult task. It is therefore necessary to consider a rigorous process for software design which integrates the different design phases in a unified manner. This is the aim of the present paper which proposes a coherent approach based on models that guarantee the development of validated applications. From an analysis model , the approach helps to obtain both a validation model which can be exploited with existing model checking tools and a specific implementation model which conforms to the validated model.

Developing a computer shop floor control model for a CIM system - using object modeling technique

In this paper, an analyzing process for building a shop floor controller model is addressed by using object Model technique (OMT). The major objective of the proposed shop floor controller model is to bridge the gaps between the production planning level and manufacturing level in a CIM environment such that production orders can be properly carried out by the shop floor equipment. In addition, shop floor dynamic conditions also can be fed back to the planning level. There are three modules in this model. (1) Planning and Scheduling Module takes charge of transferring production orders into detailed manufacturing tasks. (2) Dispatching and Coordination Module issues production commands to the controllers of proper production equipment. (3) Data Monitoring and Analysis Module collects and analyzes shop floor data in order to identify the shop floor dynamic conditions. A navigational data model for object modeling technique development environment

Extant tools supporting object modeling technique (OMT) have a serious drawback that they fail to capture a lot of relationships inherently existing among design objects. This drawback may not only disallow designers to freely navigate the relationships but also make it difficult to automatically enforce integrity constraints derived from the relationships. To overcome the drawback, we propose a navigational data model called FONASSE (FOur-dimensional NAvigation Spaceship for Software Engineering), The data model captures four structural relationships among design objects: part of, the other development stage of, the other representation of, and version of. A considerable part of structural semantics the design objects inherently have, can be well captured with the relationships. Since the four relationships are mutually exclusive with each other, designers may navigate a set of design objects in a four-dimensional space. Supporting the relationships at system level also entails the automatic enforcement of corresponding integrity constraints, We identified four integrity constraints, each of which is derived from one of the four relationships. In this paper, FONASSE is fully developed as a model suitable to the four-dimensional navigation. As a first step towards such development, a navigation function is defined to formally specify the semantics of queries related with the navigation. The queries, which turn out to be a specification of navigation paths, can be uniformly formulated by the combination of the navigation functions. The integrity constraints corresponding to the relationships are also expressed in terms of the navigation functions. A methodology for development of configurable remote access measurement system

A configurable remote access measurement system (CRAMS) is designed using an object oriented methodology (OOM) and implemented using the integration of an object oriented language, JAVA, a relational database management system, MS-ACCESS, and an instrumentation software package (LabVIEW). OOM is a powerful technique that is used to manage the complexity of large systems. It allows for easy maintenance and upgrading of the developed systems. The main focus of this paper is to present a detailed procedure for the analysis, design and implementation of CRAMS. The functionality of CRAMS is demonstrated by creating a remotely accessible laboratory environment using a set of programmable and virtual instruments connected to a PC server. This paper explores the techniques of designing an open architecture for distribution management system. By applying the object modeling technique, the distribution circuit is modeled at a basic as well as various levels of abstractions, which is capable of supporting a wide range of distribution applications. In addition, the data of the distribution circuit is defined in a well-organized structure that no data redundancy occurs when multiple simultaneous functions are invoked. Based on this model, a three-tire software architecture of DMS, which meets the standards of the open system, has been proposed. Evaluations of this architecture have also been presented in this paper.

As printing machines attain higher operating speeds, paper feeding mechanisms are more prone to problems such as vibration, noise, and paper jams. To design reliable paper feeding mechanisms, designers first use heuristic knowledge to decide the basic specifications of the printer according to the user's requirements. In the preliminary design stage, the design process is represented hierarchically and the characteristics of each part are determined. Conceptually, the process is analogous to the methodology used in configuration design. In this research, the design process has been analyzed systematically by the OMT (object modeling technique) method, which integrates the object, functional, and dynamic models. The physical parts of the paper feeding mechanism are represented as objects, and the design Knowledge and design constraints are represented by rules and methods. A commercial expert system shell, Nexpert object, is adapted for the implementation. The inferred results are converted to create the BOM (Bill of Materials) data and are saved in a database for the detailed design and production stage. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. Translating an OMT schema to an ODMG-93 schema

Rumbaugh's object modeling technique (OMT) provides a graphical mechanism for specifying object-oriented database (OODB) schemas. The basic object model notation of OMT captures semantic data modeling constructs such as aggregation and generalization, as well as object-oriented features such as method signatures. The ODMG-93 object Database Standard has widespread support in the OODB research and industry communities, but does not provide as extensive a graphical technique as OMT does for describing schemas. In this paper, we translate OMT diagrams to the ODMG-93 object Definition Language (ODL) for specifying object-oriented database schemas. Software/database designers use OMT to express conceptual schema requirements in a high-level way, and our translation steps guide the development of an implementation schema. In addition, the translation steps serve as the basis for developing automated tools for automated ODL schema generation. We briefly discuss approaches to retain the semantics expressible in OMT that are not directly supported in ODL. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.

A good process management system helps the project members develop software projects. This paper introduces a Software Process Engineering Environment, SPEE. In SPEE, the process designer designs the process definition and project plan in a Process LANguage, PLAN, under a Process Definition Editor, PDE. A software project is developed on a Process Aided Software process enactment Environment, PASE. PASE provides development guidance, activity enforcement, process automation, tool invocations, and execution feedback for process enactment. SPEE, composed on PDE, PLAN, and PASE, provides helps from the plan to the end of a software project.
