LACATRE is a graphical environment dedicated to the development of real-time applications. Several integrated tools assist the user, not only during the preliminary and detailed design, but also during the maintenance step. Thanks to the reverse engineering techniques, a user can rebuild a diagram of his application using low-level objects told actions provided by the LACATRE environment (detailed view). The aim of this paper is to present a methodology which, from this detailed view, helps to restructure real-time applications using now the LACATRE high-level objects in terms of client-server relation. These components become then reusable interfaces in a new high-level design or call be replaced by more reliable and efficient components from the current high-level objects database.

Although several object-oriented distributed systems development tools exist, there is little, if none, over of solutions that homogeneously integrate all aspects of a distributed system. This article describes a toolkit that aims at supporting the construction and the execution of distributed systems. The tools are defined according to an architecture that fully complies with object-oriented principles, providing software developers with a relatively simple - yet effective and efficient - platform that makes it transparent the main difficulties normally found in distributed systems development. Among those difficulties, it is the notorious impedance mismatch between programming language and object manipulation language. Such difficult is not noticed in the toolkit here presented. Moreover, all the benefits from object orientation are deeply exploited. For this reason, the toolkit permits fast development of distributed systems.

This paper presents concept lattices as a natural representation of class hierarchies in object-oriented databases and frame based knowledge representations. We show how to extend concept lattices by uncertainty in the form of conditional probabilities. We illustrate that uncertain reasoning within the hierarchical structure of concept lattices can be performed efficiently and makes uncertain conclusions more precise.

We propose a new data model to represent dynamic and continuous geographic phenomena over spatiotemporal domain in moving-objectdatabases. Existing data models of moving objects have shortcomings with respect to the representation of moving geographic phenomena involving continuous fields, such as temperature, elevation, and the degree of pollution. Moreover, in the case of a spatiotemporal model for continuous fields, it is difficult to deal with continuous movements through time. In this paper, we define a data type called moving field to represent both object-based and field-based views of geographic phenomena in spatiotemporal domains. The main feature of our model is that it integrates the spatial field model with the slice representation of moving objects. By introducing moving fields, we provide a new computational environment for analyzing various moving phenomena with numerical as well as geographic processing.
