Industrial practices in Requirements Engineering do not give the right place to formal methods. Two main reasons explain why such a failure arises. First of all formal methods have not promoted a dedicated SLC (Software Life Cycle) which should have been easily integrated within the upper phases of the traditional V-like or Waterfall-like model. A second reason is that formal methods have failed in scaling zip. In this paper we show how the requirements elicitation phase can take advantage of formal methods. We report the industrial and successful experience [2] undertaken by the STNA(1), a governmental office responsible for the French ATM (Air Traffic Management) system. We exhibit the evolutionary model which was applied to develop both a validated object-oriented model of a particular ATM subsystem, and a formal specification of some of its safety critical parts. We then show that the SRD (Software Requirements Document) is the key of the whole development. Its writing requires a strongly related cooperation of two different teams that are effective actors of the evolutionary model. We conclude the paper in exhibiting some recommendations.

dThis paper presents the application of the object-oriented framework SMILE to the management of flows and water quality in the Upper Mersey river catchment. The design river flows are those exceeded for 95% of the time;and are estimated applying alternative methods. The influence of compensation reservoirs, surface-water abstractions, and continuous discharges on low river flows is quantified. The annual licensed abstraction volumes are further reviewed. The monitored river water quality is classified, using the River Ecosystem scheme. The compliance of the sewage treatment works and trade effluents with their discharge-consent limits is also assessed. The impact of effluents on the variation of river water quality is evaluated through Monte Carlo simulations at the discharge points. The points where the downstream water quality fails to comply with proposed River Quality objectives are identified. The consent limits of the corresponding discharges are assessed, and changes to the BOD and total ammonia limits are suggested.

The increasing volume of industrial solid wastes presents a critical problem for the global environment. In the detection and monitoring of these industrial solid wastes, the traditional field methods are generally expensive and time consuming. With the advantages of quick observations taken at a large area, remote sensing provides an effective means for detecting and monitoring the industrial solid wastes in a large scale. In this paper, we employ an object-oriented method for detecting the industrial solid waste from HJ satellite imagery. We select phosphogypsum which is a typical industrial solid waste as our target. Our study area is located in Fuquan in Guizhou province of China. The object-oriented method we adopted consists of the following steps: 1) Multiresolution segmentation method is adopted to segment the remote sensing images for obtaining the object-based images. 2) Build the feature knowledge set of the object types. 3) Detect the industrial solid wastes based on the object-oriented decision tree rule set. We analyze the heterogeneity in features of different objects. According to the feature heterogeneity, an object-oriented decision tree rule set is then built for aiding the identification of industrial solid waste. Then, based on this decision tree rule set, the industrial solid waste can be identified automatically from remote sensing images. Finally, the identified results are validated using ground survey data. Experiments and results indicate that the object-oriented method provides an effective method for detecting industrial solid wastes.

Recently the major methods of extracting road from remote sensing image are manually. It becomes a hotpot to realize automatic information extraction of road according to the feature of high-resolution image and the characteristics of road. In this paper, an improved approach for road extraction based on Watershed segmentation is proposed according to theories of object-oriented and mathematical morphology. The image is first processed by improved Watershed segmentation to acquire feature-units after preprocessing. Then object-oriented method is used to analyze road feature-units in order to optimize the road extraction results. Finally, after binary image processing, the incomplete results can be removed and corrected by using mathematical morphological transformation. At last this paper gives the result and analysis of the experiment sample.

Based on high resolution remote sensing imagery and in combination with multi-temporal imagery, this article classified land cover of Miyun reservoir area using the object-oriented classification method. The results showed that the deciduous broad-leaved shrub, deciduous broad-leaved forest, dry land, and grass accounted for 92% of the total area. The study proved that multi-temporal satellite images are critical in grouping those objects with different spectrum together, like the cultivated land. Moreover, plenty of ancillary data is good to distinguish the different objects with same spectrum.

Knowledge can help to find a problem-solution quickly, and knowledge base is a practical tool for managing knowledge systematically. Due to highway geological disasters, cognition from remote sensing images is a complex technology;it's relevant for disaster mitigation to establish a knowledge base. But most of the frameworks of knowledge base are incomplete due to lack of experts' knowledge and insufficient quantitative knowledge from images. The purpose of this paper is to construct a highway geological disasters knowledge base (HGDKB) by making full use of multi-features knowledge of images, the visual recognition knowledge of experts, and the object-oriented approach to enabling knowledge being shared for highway geological disasters cognition. Firstly, the knowledge base framework is built, and the object-oriented method is used to represent knowledge by extensible markup language (XML) programming. Then, with the completion of HGDKB, the knowledge base is used to discern and recognize the debris movements with state highway corridor from Wenchuan to Dujiangyan of Sichuan of China as the pilot study.

Built-up areas are the results of human activities. Not only are they the real reflection of human and society activities, but also one of the most important input parameters for the simulation of biogeochemical cycle. Therefore, it is very necessary to map the distribution of built-up areas and monitor their changes by using new technologies and methods at high spatiotemporal resolution. By combining technologies of GIS (Geographic Information System) and RS (Remote Sensing), this study mainly explored the expansion and driving factors of built-up areas at the beginning of the 21st century in Zhejiang Province, China. Firstly, it introduced the mapping processes of LULC (Land Use and Land Cover) based on the method which combined object-oriented method and binary decision tree. Then, it analyzed the expansion features of built-up areas in Zhejiang from 2000 to 2005 and 2005 to 2010. In addition to these, potential driving factors on the expansion of built-up areas were also explored, which contained physical geographical factors, railways, highways, rivers, urban centers, elevation, and slop. Results revealed that the expansions of built-up areas in Zhejiang from 2000 to 2005 and from 2005 to 2010 were very obvious and they showed high levels of variation in spatial heterogeneity. Except those, increased built-up areas with distance to railways, highways, rivers, and urban centers could be fitted with power function (y = a*x(b)), with minimum R-2 of 0.9507 for urban centers from 2000 to 2005;the increased permillages of built-up areas to mean elevation and mean slop could be fitted with exponential functions (y = a*e(bx)), with minimum R-2 of 0.6657 for mean slop from 2005 to 2010. Besides, government policy could also impact expansion of built-up areas. In a nutshell, a series of conclusions were obtained through this study about the spatial features and driving factors of evolution of built-up areas in Zhejiang from 2000 to 2010.

The goal of this work is to extend a model of timed object-oriented Petri nets (TOPN) to allow modeling and analyzing dynamic systems with timing effect on system information. In the proposed Fuzzy timed object-oriented Petri net (FTOPN), we attach temporal fuzzy sets to each transition objects accounting for the aging of information. In particular, we investigate a new way to represent and deal with timing effect in dynamic systems. FTOPN also supports learning similar to that in fuzzy timed Petri net (FTPN). Finally, we use FTOPN to model a real decision making model of our cooperative multiple robot system (CMRS) to demonstrate its following benefits: independent training for its supporting object abstraction and size reconfiguration for its object granularity control function.

A hybrid 3D spatial data structure for the integration of aboveground, ground and underground objects based on spatial cognition theory is proposed, which considers the space subdivision and topology completeness. object-oriented method is used to abstract objects in real world which is defined into three levels. Geometry primitives and topology primitives are defined in this data structure. Topology is the option of the geometry. The geometry information can be coded in a binary method to store in the relation database. An experiment is designed to integrate the buildings, terrain, and geological stratification seamlessly. The data structure could express aboveground, ground and underground objects effectively.

This paper proposes and illustrates an AI embedded object-oriented methodology to formulate the computable general equilibrium (CGE) models. In this framework, a CGE model is viewed as a collection of objects embedded AI or namely agents in computer world, corresponding to economic agents and entities in real world, such as government, households, markets and so on. A frame representation of major objects in CGE model is used for trade and environment. Embedded Al object-oriented approach (or software agent) is used in the CGE model representation can able to narrow the gap among the semantic representation, formal CGE (mathematical) representation and computer and algorithm representation, and to improve CGE in understanding and maintenance etc. In such a system, constructing a CGE model to appear an intuitive process rather than an abstract process. This intuitive process needs more understanding of the substance of economics and the logic underlying the problem rather than mathematical notation.
