Software industry produces high quality software, in that software testing plays a vital role. In software testing automatic generation can reduce the process time and cost. Automatic generation of object-oriented unit tests in software testing is a challenging task especially in white box testing. In software engineering Software testing becomes challenging issue with the development of software tools. Using Genetic Algorithm will provide best results in the software testing toolkit. This paper suggests an upgrading of automated search-based test generation of test cases in order to obtain high branch coverage in white box testing. The proposed technique outperforms providing greater efficiency in testing technique which combines Genetic Algorithm and Symbolic Execution named GASE. GASE automatically generates test data in order to obtain high branch coverage in white box testing aiming effective testing process which can be extended for software testing in cloud computing where it becomes necessity.

This paper suggests a new automatic change detection approach using image-object-based contextual inference. The approach first detects changed areas, and then infers what happened there. The inference process uses knowledge based on a change detection process performed by humans. It enables flexible and intuitive description of the change detection process. In this paper, we describe the results of case studies on automatic change detection using the Advanced Visible and Near Infrared Radiometer type-2 (AVNIR-2) onboard the Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS, nicknamed "Daichi").

This paper presents a refinement calculus for object systems with visibility, dynamic binding and mutual dependency. The intention is to support effective use of a relational model for specifying and reasoning in activities of an object system development process. The semantics framework will define the meaning of the combinators in the exactly same way as their counterparts in the imperative programming languages. This makes the approach more accessible to the users who are already familiar with the algebraic laws and the verification tools developed for these languages. The paper also provides a set of transformation rules in support of object system refinement.

Android, a Linux-based operating system, is currently the most popular platform for mobile devices like smart-phones and tablets. Recently, two closely related security threats have become a major concern of the research community: software piracy and malware. This paper studies the capabilities of code obfuscation for the purposes of plagiarized software and malware diversification. Within the scope of this work, the PANDORA (PANDORA Applies Non-Deterministic Obfuscation Randomly to Android) transformation system for Android bytecode was designed and implemented, combining techniques for data and object-oriented design obfuscation. Our evaluation results indicate deficiencies of the malware detection engines currently used in 46 popular antivirus products, which in most cases were not able to detect samples obfuscated with PANDORA. Furthermore, this paper reveals shortcomings of the Androsim tool and potentially other static software similarity algorithms, recently proposed to address the piracy problem in Android.

Strategy tools: Who really uses them?

Purpose - The paper complements other published material on strategy tools by presenting a picture of how practicing managers use tools and concepts in strategy activity. Design/methodology/approach - The paper draws on interviews with a diverse set of managers. The interviews explored how these managers used tools in a chosen strategy activity. Findings - The paper presents a profile of how managers use tools that refines and challenges existing studies. Writing on strategy tools often implies strict application of the tools. In practice, managers take parts from different tools and mould them to suit pre-existing business objectives and processes. This requires them to have a wide knowledge of tools and to reflect on them critically. Managers use tools as a source of inspiration as much as for communication or for facilitating initiatives. When looking to extend their knowledge, they seek new ideas, not packaged solutions. Practical implications - The implication for managers is to focus on reconstructing tools to fit local needs. The paper argues that this does not mean corrupting tools and is more effective than seeking better tools that already fit. Originality/value - Prior studies of strategy tools have focused mainly on the extent of tool use. This paper considers in more depth how managers enact these tools within their firms, and hence advances from the study of fads to the study of strategy practice. Its findings are relevant to those who devise and communicate tools as well as to managers. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.

In this paper, we study how object-oriented classes are used across thousands of software packages. We concentrate on "usage diversity", defined as the different statically observable combinations of methods called on the same object. We present empirical evidence that there is a significant usage diversity for many classes. For instance, we observe in our dataset that Java's String is used in 2460 manners. We discuss the reasons of this observed diversity and the consequences on software engineering knowledge and research.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts that approximately 175,100 software engineering jobs will be created between 2008 and 2018. In order to fill these positions, new computer scientists, who enjoy and are competent in the art of programming and software design, must be trained. Computer science departments must look for novel approaches to attract non-traditional students, i.e. women and minorities, to the major, in order to fill the positions predicted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Additionally, although computer science enrollment has increased in the freshman and sophomore levels over the past few years, computer science departments are still faced with identifying new approaches to teaching programming that will retain students, particularly if some of them have weak mathematics backgrounds and are placed directly in CS1. In this paper, a study to determine the effectiveness of a CS0 course using Scratch for improving the retention, the performance and the attitudes of at-risk majors is discussed. Initial assessments associated with the study indicate that students of the target group who program using Scratch have a high degree of perceived self-efficacy with respect to their programming abilities. Furthermore, results to date indicate that the originally at-risk students in the study went on to successfully complete CS1 with a passing rate of 74% compared to a 39% passing rate in CS1 by the students who had sufficiently high mathematics scores upon entry into the university.

An object-oriented approach for building a flexible supply chain model

Purpose - This paper aims to propose a framework for building a flexible supply chain business model using an object-oriented approach. Design/methodology/approach - The proposed modeling framework has used the de facto object-oriented modeling standard, Unified Modeling Language (UML), for building a supply chain model. To compensate for the potential weakness of the pure object-oriented model and UML, the framework integrates business rules with its model. Findings - This paper provides information about several sources, which are the bases of modeling a supply chain. The paper regards a supply chain as five view models with four business domains and each domain consists of functions, resources, processes, interactions and business rules. Research limitations/implications - A typical manufacturing supply chain is considered as a target system to apply this design methodology. The paper does not handle a real case study as an application example. Originality/value - This paper newly added the category of "Business Process Reengineering (BPR)-driven" models to the traditional taxonomy of supply chain models and proposed an object-oriented business model (OOBM) for a supply chain as one of the BPR-driven models. It is hoped that this modeling approach is highly usable and adds value to an analyst, practitioner, and designer in the field of supply chain. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.

The lack of accurate yet open to public simulation infrastructure has puzzled researchers in the memcomputing area for sometime. In this paper, we propose for the first time a full tool chain called MSim that supports the cycle-accurate microarchitecture level simulation for memcomputing studies. With MSim, the performance gains of utilizing memcomputing for arbitrary applications on user configurable computer system architectures can be evaluated in high accuracy. In addition, MSim provides flexible interfaces with pervasive object-oriented design, which makes it well-suited as a good base platform for researchers to explore new memcomputing technologies.

It is common belief that dataflow testing criteria are harder to satisfy than statement and branch coverage. As motivations, several researchers indicate the difficulty of finding test suites that exercise many dataflow relations and the increased impact of infeasible program paths on the maximum coverage rates that can be indeed obtained. Yet, although some examples are given in research papers, we lack data on the validity of these hypotheses. This paper presents an experiment with a large sample of object oriented classes and provides solid empirical evidence that dataflow coverage rates are steadily lower than statement and branch coverage rates, and that the uncovered dataflow elements do not generally depend on the feasibility of single statements.
