Proposes an extension to an earlier proposed temporal synchronization model, called OCPN. The new model allows one to specify spatial operations at the time of authoring the multimedia information. The authors present a mechanism to translate the model into an object-oriented environment. For this purpose the temporal operations are selected as objects. This scheme has many advantages over the existing object-oriented model since it requires fewer number of objects as well as do not limit the users to share the actual raw data. A polynomial time algorithm is proposed to translate the new OCPN into an object hierarchy.< >

Meeting memory features are poorly integrated into current group support systems (GSS). This paper discusses how to introduce meeting memory functionality into a GSS. The author first introduces the benefits of a good meeting and organizational memory to an organization. Then, challenges such as storing semantically rich output, building up the meeting memory during the meeting with a minimum of additional effort and integrating meeting memory into organizational memory, and privacy protection are discussed. Finally, using the group-objectobject-oriented model of a GSS, the author shows how meeting memory functionality can be implemented in a GSS.< >

Existing decision support systems are primarily tailored to address specific decision or business problems because of the special factors that impact these specific decision areas. Rather than develop a new system for another range of problems or decisions, we have developed an object-oriented model that captures the important elements of the decision-making process, so that this information and knowledge can be captured and used over time and across organizational boundaries. Users can build upon past decisions and experiences to aid in current decision processes, thus providing a platform for storing organization-wide knowledge, and enabling organizational learning from individual learning.< >

If we accept that computer representation of a conceptual model rnusl he closer to the idea of the world the user has in mind, the conventional object-oriented methods tail in properly addressing the specification of semantics of presentation features within the conceptual model itself. To solve this problem, the conceptual model expressiveness must be enriched adding interface specification to capture such essential information. This information capture must be done preserving the semantics of the conceptual model as a whole. In this paper, a set of relevant interface patterns will be introduced in the conceptual modelling phase, preserving the homogeneity of the model. The enrichment is applied to OO-Method, a software production OO method developed in the Information Systems and Computation Department at the Valencia University of Technology. Following the OO-Method approach a software product is automatically obtained from the conceptual model and the interlace generation is obtained in a natural way.

Despite vast interest in design patterns, the specification and application of patterns is generally assumed to rely on manual implementation. We describe a precise method of specifying how a design pattern is applied: by phrasing it as an algorithm in a meta-programming language. We present a prototype of a tool that supports the specification of design patterns and their realization in a given program. Our prototype allows automatic application of design patterns without obstructing the source code test from the programmer, who may edit it at will. We demonstrate pattern specification in meta-programming techniques and a sample outcome of its application.

To remain competitive many organizations are seeking to implement quality improvement systems. But measuring service quality is an elusive task. To facilitate this task, we are developing an expert support system to assist managers in determining what problems to address and what data to collect in order to improve service quality. The development environment consists of two banks committed to quality improvement, a semi-structured task, a high-level development tool, and multiple users. A four-stage development methodology is used, comprising requirements analysis, knowledge acquisition, system development and system assessment. The field prototype, developed in LEVEL5 object, uses procedural cuing to guide decision makers through a series of decision-making subtasks toward an overall objective. The function of the proposed system is to provide decision support, interactive training, and expert advice. Future research will expand the system, adding more functions and expertise.< >

The paper presents a methodology for designing office procedure models in interaction with object models. The proposed models of office procedures are conceptualized in a way that helps to analyze the organizational effectiveness of procedures. Furthermore the methodology supports identification, specification, and refinement of classes in the object model. Integration is accomplished by establishing references from the office procedure models to the object model and by specifying the management of a procedure within classes of the object model. The specification can be partially transformed into a frame-based object definition language which in turn can be compiled into executable code. The models are thought to be located within an enterprise-wide repository. The methodology is supported by a design environment that provides various levels of abstraction/spl minus/not only for system designers but also for domain experts.< >

Business process redesign (BPR) has its roots in the manufacturing industries. In manufacturing, the emphasis is usually on the description of the flow of material through manufacturing processes. More recently, BPR has been taken into consideration by the management accounting and information systems development community. Each one of these communities has focused on different aspects of BPR, with its own weaknesses and strengths. Lately, BPR methodologies based on organisational theory have started emerging. The need of process modelling and redesign has also been identified in safety-critical situations. Petrochemical plants have inherent economic and personal risks associated with their operation. It is therefore in the interests of the plant owner to apply best practices to ensure safe and cost-effective plant operation, and it is in the public interest to encourage this. In this paper, we present the agent relationship morphism methodology (ARMA) and its application to the safety-critical area of permit management in the oil industry.< >

Today, most of the OO software development methodologies analyze requirements in terms of objects and their interactions. As a result, they have the problem of forcing analysts to make design decisions on objects and their interactions at the early stage of requirements analysis. This paper gives a brief introduction of an enhanced DFD model called data flow net (DF net) that resolves the impeding mismatch between DFD based models and OO models. It also gives a brief introduction of an approach that uses DF net to specify use-cases in the requirements analysis stage without the need of making the above-mentioned major design decisions. In the design stage, the proposed approach transforms the DF nets specified during the requirements analysis stage systematically and precisely into OO designs. It bridges the gap between requirements and OO design. A significant part of the transformation can be automated.

A grammar (BNF-type) description of organization theories enables an object-oriented semi-formalized specification of the essential aspects of an organization theory. This specification can be used for the development of simulation models of organizations consisting of intelligent agents. A method for the conceptual analysis and specification of organization theories (CAST) is based on this grammar-based specification. The classical theory of Henri Fayol (1916) has been chosen to demonstrate the CAST method.< >
