We introduce concepts and construction of a system for the generation of diagram editors based on object-oriented model informations, Only the object-oriented model and the definition of the desired diagram notation has to be provided by the software developer. The software developer specifies symbols to be used as a graphical representation for the instances of a class and defines graphical link constellations to represent links between these instances. The system allows the automated integration of an object-oriented database management system for the management of diagram and application information.

Due to their increasing complexity, the research in the area of Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) is still is in a continuous increase. In this paper we consider the design and the modeling aspects of FMS from an object-oriented perspective. We use the formalism of High-Level Petri Nets with object-Orientation (HLPNOO) to model an FMS by considering a number of basic FMS components. Each component of a FMS is modeled as a class from the HLPNOO formalism, as well a the entire FMS and its controller. We will strengthen the proposed method with a modeling example.

The object-oriented approach known as heterogeneous behavior multimodeling her been developed, used, and reported elsewhere, to facilitate creation, modification, sharing, and reuse of object-oriented models and the simulations created from those models. The digital object extends multimodeling so that digital objects can be shared and combined in ways that ordinary multimodels cannot. We describe an abstract base multimodel and several derived instantiated multimodel types. We also describe a transformation which takes a digital object to a simulation program. We give formal definitions of multimodeling, digital object, and the transformation, then from these definitions prove correctness of execution sequencing of simulations created by applying the transformation to digital objects. Closure under coupling of digital objects follows as a corollary, subject to an assumption regarding experimental frame. We then construct an abstract base architecture for manufacture, flow, and persistence of digital objects. From the base architecture we derive and instantiate a suite of architectures, each targeted at a distinct set of requirements: one to operate locally, another with internet protocols, a third with web protocols, and a fourth to allow digital objects to interoperate with other kinds of simulations.

This paper presents an extended object model for case-based reasoning in product configuration design. The model can support all the processes of case-based reasoning in product configuration design such as case representation, indexing, retrieving and case revising. It is different from traditional object model. The model extends traditional object-oriented model by including the relationship class used to express the relation between the cases, constraints class used in the product configuration knowledge representation, index class used in case retrieving, solution class used in case revise. So a complex Case can be represented by using this model. In the end a product configuration design systems is developed on the basis of extend object model to support customized products.

Increased penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs) creates challenges in formulating the security constrained optimal power flow (SCOPF) problem as the number of models for these resources proliferate. Specifically, the number of devices with different mathematical models is large and their integration into the SCOPF becomes tedious. Henceforth, a process that seamlessly models and integrates such new devices into the SCOPF problem is needed. We propose an object-oriented modeling approach that leads to the autonomous formation of the SCOPF problem. All device models in the system are cast into a universal syntax. We have also introduced a quadratization method which makes the models consisting of linear and quadratic equations, if nonlinear. We refer to this model as the State and Control Quadratized Device Model (SCQDM). The SCQDM includes a number of equations and a number of inequalities expressing the operating limits of the device. The SCOPF problem is then formed in a seamless manner by operating only on the SCQDM device objects. The SCOPF problem, formed this way, is also quadratic (i.e. consists of linear and quadratic equations), and of the same form and syntax as the SCQDM for an individual device. For this reason, we named it security constrained quadratic optimal power flow (SCQOPF). We solve the SCQOPF problem using a sequential linear programming (SLP) algorithm and compare the results with those obtained from the commercial solver Knitro on the IEEE 57 bus system.

Technology of the object-oriented implementation for the multibody dynamics models is the key feature when developing the corresponding computer structures. We are based on an approach originating from concepts explained earlier. Following the guidelines outlined there one can develop the family of the constraint abstractions being adapted to any type of the machinery applications and relatively easily implement corresponding family of Modelica models. One also can reorder these classes hierarchically using sequences of the behaviour inheritance. Solutions concerning contact problems and corresponding examples are under consideration.

MOOSE (Multimodel object oriented Simulation Environment) is an enabling environment for modeling and simulation, under construction at University of Florida, based on OOPM (object oriented Physical modeling). OOPM extends object-oriented program design with visualization and a definition of system modeling that reinforces the relation of model to program. OOPM is a natural mechanism for modeling large-scale systems, and facilitates effective integration of disparate pieces of code into one simulation. Components of MOOSE are Modeler, Translator, Engine, and Scenario: (1) Modeler interacts with model author via GUI to capture model design, (2) Translator is a bridge between model design and model execution, reading Modeler output, building structures representing model, and emitting C++ (or potentially other) code for model;(3) Engine is a C++ program, composed of Translator output plus runtime support, compiled and linked once, then repeatedly activated for Model Execution;(4) Scenario is a visualization-enabling GUI which activates and interacts with Engine, and displays Engine output in a form meaningful to user. Dynamic model types supported include Finite State Machine, Functional Block Model, and Equational Constraint, models;alternatively, model authors may create their own C++ ''code models'';model types may be freely combined;class libraries facilitate reuse. MOOSE emphasizes multimodeling, which glues together models of the same or different types, produced during model refinement, reflecting various abstraction perspectives, to adjust model fidelity, during development and during model execution. Underlying multimodeling is ''Block'' as fundamental object. Every model is built from Blocks, expressed in a modeling Assembly Language.

The paper deals with automotive power window systems and, in particular, tackles the problem of validating the object-oriented model of a single bowden system, to be used within a Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) approach. Therefore, the paper tackles the problem of increasing accuracy of object-oriented models by defining model refinements i.e. by identifying objects whose modelling has to be improved. Firstly, the role of object-oriented modelling and the main characteristics of the power window system are summarized. Then, the objectoriented model of an automotive single bowden power window system is presented. Finally, the experimental phase, performed to characterize the behavior of the real system is summarised and the validation of simulation model, as well as the identification of model refinement, are accomplished.

Design for serviceability influences the product usage life and is one of the active research areas of environmentally conscious design and manufacturing (ECDM). This paper deals with the development of a framework ibs serviceability analysis and evaluation of electromechanical and mechanical products. The framework consists of two major modules: serviceability evaluation module and object-oriented data modeling module. In this paper, the fuzzy neural network based serviceability evaluation module is briefly presented. Detailed description of this module appears in another paper by the authors [8]. The object-oriented data modeling module (OODM) consists of two sub-modules: object-oriented product data model (OOPDM) and object-oriented service resources model (OOSRM). The OOPDM and OOSRM supports the serviceability evaluation.

Atomic use case: A concept for precise modelling of object-oriented information systems

We propose the concept of "atomic use case" and demonstrate how this concept can be used to bring the analysis of functional requirements of information systems to a much deeper level than usual, and ultimately to construct a precise specification of the system's functionality. Specifically, the complete functionality of an information system is defined by a set of atomic use cases, which axe consistently specified in terms of their input, output, pre- and postcondition. We also show that the usefulness of the atomic use case concept goes beyond analysis. With this concept, a characterization of the business logic layer can be clearly formulated, and this layer can be systematically extended to effectively support the construction of graphical user interface.
