The use of methods inserted in the context of Experimental Software Engineering as the experimental study, case studies, opinion surveys and controlled experiments, has intensified in recent years. Considering this context, this study aims to present the application of the open coding proposal in the experimental method of Grounded Theory (GT), in order to contribute to the definition of the profile of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) companies in the State of Para from Brazil, since the results generated in this work favor the development of the next steps of the GT method. The context explored happened under the perpescence of the MOSE model, more specifically in the Customer and Market (CM) dimension, once the investigation was based on information related to the concepts present in this dimension, aiming to know the form that occurs the development of the CM competence in the daily life of each company participating in this research.

Assessments of new pedagogical practices usually rely on instructor oriented surveys and questionnaires to measure student perceptions of teaching methods;however, fixed response categories in structured questionnaires might bias results. This paper demonstrates a mixed methods approach using open and multi-dimensional scaling (MDS) for a student-oriented exploratory analysis and visualization of perceptions of teaching methods. A scientific writing and research methodology course is a required course for first year PhD students in software engineering and geo-infomatics at Wuhan University, China. PhD students attending this course came from countries whose first language is not English, and from a variety of software engineering and geo-infomatics domains. The problem therefore, was to elicit un-mediated perceptions of course assignment, reduce and generalize the resulting data for interpretation. A graphical visualization of themes emerging in student responses to two open-ended questions about an assignment provided a basis for inferring student interests and needs. In this course, an assessment of a task oriented problem-solving experience was implemented through a mixed method strategy incorporating qualitative methods, exploratory data mining techniques, and cartographic visualization. The visualization shows that participating students generally perceived the exercise as challenging, helped them understand journal requirements, and develop ways to survey texts to extract information. The results also suggested that this consensus breaks down in terms of each participant's own goals, domain, and research interests. Unstructured questions, open coding, and MDS visualization might also prove to be helpful in the process of devising and assessing other student centered pedagogies.

Stress-related illnesses are a major problem among urban societies. Greenspaces near residential areas are crucial for supporting mental well-being and mitigating urban stressors. While various studies have demonstrated the benefits of greenspaces for stress recovery, the constraints to experiencing these benefits are less explored. This study aims to explore the multidimensional factors constraining psychological restoration in everyday outdoor activities, to inform urban planning and enhance environmental psychology theories. In an online survey 1134 Swiss residents were presented with an open-ended question about the constraints they experienced during their latest outdoor activity, along with closed-ended questions about their personal traits, the activity performed, and the restorativeness of the experience. Through an inductive coding process followed by a deductive classification, we identified a wide range of constraints and categorized them into structural, interpersonal, and intrapersonal constraints, further distinguishing between supply and demand factors. Structural supply constraints were predominant, particularly overcrowding, traffic, and noise, which negatively correlated with the perceived restorativeness of the environment. Intrapersonal demand constraints, such as thoughts and stress were mentioned frequently, and hindered restoration outcomes. Women and younger adults were more frequently affected by these constraints. Results underscore the subjective and context-dependent nature of restorative experiences in everyday environments, shaped by the interplay of individual, societal, and environmental factors. Our findings highlight the need for inclusive planning and social measures to support vulnerable groups in enhancing the restorative potential of outdoor activities in nearby greenspaces.

For all practical purposes, they are the same.

Digital Transformation has generated much research and curiosity recently, with the COVID-19 global pandemic accelerating its pace across all industry sectors. Current literature has not adequately provided a comprehensive understanding of Digital Transformation Leadership (DTL). The objective of this research is to explore the characteristics of DTL by undertaking a comprehensive review of Information Systems literature using a systematic procedure of identifying and coding 87 research papers, resulting in 600 coded excerpts, capturing the 'who' and 'what' of DTL. Our analysis identifies eight DTL characteristics, namely: digital strategist, digital culturalist, digital architect, customer centrist, organisational agilist, data advocate, business process optimiser and digital workplace landscaper. We discuss mapping the DTL characteristics to c-suite roles, presenting a taxonomy from the literature, of interest to both academics and practitioners. This research raises the awareness of the concept of DTL characteristics, especially amongst those in positions of leadership and decision making authority.

The objective of this theory-building research is to explore the defining characteristics of 'doing' Digital Transformation (DT) and present a holistic account of the practitioner practices that characterise 'doing' DT. For the purposes of this research 'doing' DT is defined as leveraging digital technologies to significantly alter an organisational design in order to enhance customer engagement. To fulfil this objective, we select 16 key informants (digital transformation leaders) based on their organisational perspective (Business or IT) and role (Strategic or Operational), which facilitates hearing 4 types of practitioner voices. Following an inductive open coding approach, 348 excerpts were coded, leading to the emergence of 95 concepts, which were further grouped into 14 categories. In this paper, we focus our write-up on the six most frequently occurring categories that are shaped by all four key informant groups (practitioner voices). This paper is unique in providing a holistic categorisation of the defining characteristics of 'doing' DT, while also providing 24 Practitioner Priorities'. These 'Practitioner Priorities' sharpens the focus of academia and practice, highlighting the 'role of people', 'role of data' and 'role of technology' when 'doing' DT.

The purpose of this review paper is to understand why organisations choose to implement data governance (DG) programmes. An understanding of these motivations will facilitate assessing the effectiveness of DG programmes. A search of the literature returned 628 publications for examination;of these 50 were deemed to be relevant to the research, and were selected for analysis and coding using a grounded theory approach. Our analysis found 115 organisational motivations for implementing DG, grouped into 23 categories. We use the Khatri and Brown framework to organise these categories across their five decision domains. The motivations are predominantly associated with operations and technology. This presents a challenge for organisations, where an over-focus on technology could lessen the business imperative. DG needs to be much more than an operational plan for managing the data asset. DG requires a holistic approach to succeed which suggests that all decision domains are considered adequately.

This research investigates how an organisational unit organises workaround-centric data activities (WCDA) to cope with data availability issues (in the context of their centralised and decentralised systems landscape). To unpack these often-invisible WCDA patterns of action, we present a field study of a Quality Assurance (QA) unit of an Indonesian sugar plantation company. We use open coding and a narrative network (NN) approach to complete our analysis. Our findings reveal that data availability issues produce three patterns of action: dual inspection, prudent control, and mindful handling. An organisation can build plausible pictures for governing data by better understanding these visualised patterns. Lastly, we discuss the pros and cons of these patterns of action in the context of data governance.
