This study considers linear precoding for secure transmission in a multiuser peer-to-peer relay network with finite alphabet input. Under the assumption that the global channel-state-information is available, the achievable secrecy rate is derived. However, the computational complexity to evaluate the achievable secrecy rate grows exponentially with respect to the number of pair users. To reduce the computational complexity caused by the multiuser interference, an accurate approximation of the achievable secrecy rate is derived. Based on Karush-Kuhn-Tucker analysis, necessary conditions for the optimal precoder which maximises the approximated achievable secrecy rate are presented. In light of this, an iterative gradient method is developed to find the optimal precoder. Numerical examples demonstrate that the proposed scheme achieves significant gains in terms of the secrecy rate over schemes designed for Gaussian input.

This paper deals with the global optimality of the channel capacity of the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) cooperative system which is equipped with precoders at source and relay, and exploits the direct channel between source and destination. Each precoder of the system is individually designed by the Lagrangian method and the final precoders are decided by an iterative structure. To prove the global optimality for the channel capacity of the system with these joint precoders, we show that the channel capacity function of the system is a concave function and the constraints of the system are convex sets.

In this article, novel deterministic equivalents for the Stieltjes transform and the Shannon transform of a class of large dimensional random matrices are provided. These results are used to characterize the ergodic rate region of multiple antenna multiple access channels, when each point-to-point propagation channel is modelled according to the Kronecker model. Specifically, an approximation of all rates achieved within the ergodic rate region is derived and an approximation of the linear precoders that achieve the boundary of the rate region as well as an iterative water-filling algorithm to obtain these precoders are provided. An original feature of this work is that the proposed deterministic equivalents are proved valid even for strong correlation patterns at both communication sides. The above results are validated by Monte Carlo simulations.

In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm to improve the accuracy in estimating the angle-of-arrival (AoA) when the MUSIC (MUltiple SIgnal Classification) algorithm is used. An optimal precoder, with the objective to minimize the estimation errors of the AoAs, is first derived. However, to compute the optimal precoder requires the channel state information (CSI) exclusive of the receiver array, which cannot be separately estimated practically. A more feasible precoder design approach, which leverages on the feedback instantaneous CSI estimated at the receiver, is next proposed. Using the ideal optimal design to benchmark the performance, our simulation shows that the proposed practical precoder can achieve near-optimal performance, and both can achieve about 4-6 dB improvement in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) compared to the case when only MUSIC algorithm is applied without precoding. Finally, the performance of the AoA estimator under channel estimation errors is studied through simulation, to demonstrate the robustness of the proposed approach.
