Data-Driven Soft Sensor Model Based on Deep Learning for Quality Prediction of Industrial Processes

Fermentation process is a time-varying, nonlinear and multivariable dynamic coupling system. Therefore, it is difficult to directly measure the key biological variables using traditional physical sensors during the process of fermentation, which makes the monitoring and real-time control impossible. To resolve this problem, a data-driven soft sensor modeling method based on deep neural network (DNN) is proposed in this paper. This method is suitable for large amount of data and it enjoys high efficiency and robustness. At the same time, an adaptive moment estimation (Adam) algorithm is used to optimize the hyper-parameters of the DNN model, which is a technique for efficient stochastic optimization that only requires first-order gradients with little memory requirement. The consistent correlation method is used to determine the auxiliary variables of the soft sensor model. The penicillin and l-lysine fermentation processes are taken as the research object, substrate concentration, cell concentration, and product concentration are selected as a target variable. The performance of established soft sensor model is evaluated through the indexes of mean square error (MSE), root-mean-square error (RMSE), and mean absolute error (MAE). The simulation results show that the prediction performance of the soft sensor model based on DNN-Adam is good and compared with model based on stochastic gradient descent (SGD) with momentum optimization algorithm. It is verified that the proposed method can make a more accurate real-time prediction of quality variables in the fermentation process, and it has higher prediction accuracy than DNN-SGD method. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. part of Springer Nature.

Service network design is a significant consideration for courier companies because an efficient design reduces operating costs while maintaining service quality. While companies typically rely on subject-matter experts knowledge to modify their service network design on a regular basis based on changes in demand, some of them have also developed an optimization-driven approach to improve the design of their service network in the long-term. Typically, service networks are based on a hub-and-spoke design. However, operating costs may be reduced by adding consolidations on the pickup and/or the delivery routes into and out of hubs. Consolidations are locations where packages can be aggregated from multiple spokes to go into a hub or can be disaggregated to be delivered to multiple destinations from a hub. This service network design feature ultimately reduces the number of aircraft used on each route and therefore decreases the operating costs. In this study, we use Integer Programming with hierarchical objectives to generate consolidation options. The proposed algorithm accounts for network-wide demand considerations and aims at reducing costs from operating several modes of transportation by minimizing the number of consolidation locations while ensuring that every package is served and gets delivered on time at its intended destination. The algorithm is being implemented on the entire domestic U.S. market and has the flexibility to generate one or more consolidation options for each group of packages going from a given origin to a given destination. Results from the optimization are compared to solutions from a heuristic approach based on a series of geographical and operational rules. Results show that the optimization approach is able to generate better consolidation options compared to the heuristic approach. We present a class of self-scaling collocation integrators which, unlike explicit Runge-Kutta integrators, will automatically preserve quadratic constants of motion such as energy, linear momentum, and angular momentum, without the need for small stepsizes. However, collocation integrators in general require numerical optimization to solve an implicit set of equations which are difficult and computationally expensive to solve when the problem's Jacobian becomes ill-conditioned. Therefore, the integrators we present automatically scale the collocation conditions using a generalized eigenvalue problem (GEVP) approach, and exploit the Jacobian's structure to improve the optimization algorithm's precision and speed. Numerical results show that the presented integrators preserve invariants in a broader class of integration problems, with an improvement of approximately one order of magnitude over traditional Runge-Kutta 4(5) schemes.

Binary power generation system by utilizing solar energy in Malaysia

For binary cycle power plants, the energy of solar may be utilized as a heating source. Malaysia has a tropical climate, which receives 4500 kWh/m2 of solar irradiation on a daily basis and roughly 12 h of sunshine every day. Thus, the potential of binary power cycle plants in Malaysia by utilizing the energy of solar as a source of heat is very promising. However, to date, no feasibility study on binary power cycle generation by using the energy of solar as a source of heat in Malaysia has been conducted. Therefore, in this work, a techno-economic analysis on the proposed binary power cycle generation in Malaysia is conducted using commercially available software, HOMER and MATLAB Simulink. The analysis is conducted to assess the proposed binary power generation implementation in Malaysia. Particle Swarm optimization (PSO), Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) and Teaching Learning Based optimization (TLBO) are three separate metaheuristic algorithms that are exploited so as to determine the optimum cost of economic of the project. From the results obtained in this work, TLBO gives the most optimized economic cost compared to PSO and ABC. Also, it is found that binary power cycle generation by using energy of solar as a source of heat is feasible in Malaysia.(c) 2022 THE AUTHORS. A cross frame post-processing strategy for video object detection

Video-based object detection plays an important role in the real world and scientific research. Compared with still images, video detection is more challenging due to occlusion, rare poses, high-speed movement, frames loss, etc. In order to improve the existing video stream detectors widely and with low coupling, a post-processing strategy, CFPP, is proposed in this work. The framework can establish a cross frame link based on deep learning, connect the proposals belonging to the same object, and improve the performance of the detector by optimizing the classification confidence and object coordinates. Furthermore, CFPP can connect the proposals in adjacent and non adjacent frames at the same time, which makes it exploit the context information of video stream more effectively than other post-processing strategies. Experiments shows that CFPP can improve the existing detectors (e.g. we improve the mAP of YOLOv4 on ImageNet VID dataset form 69.24% to 78.15%). In addition, experiments show that the designed framework can achieve better detection effect than other strategies in the case of high-speed moving object and frames loss.

This paper explains and demonstrates how to calculate and optimize landing performance. According regulation requirement, it needs to consider the different requirements [1], including landing field length, missed approach climb gradient, brake energy and tire speed. Weights limited by the different requirements are calculated, the minimum of these weights limited are determined as the actual allowed maximum landing weight.

Several companies are hoping to bring back commercial supersonic aircraft operations;some have plans to introduce new supersonic aircraft in the mid-2020s. A few studies that predict the operational and environmental impacts of introducing supersonic aircraft in airline fleets exist, but-to the authors' best knowledge-none predict the effects of how operating commercial supersonic aircraft as part of an airline's fleet might alter how the airline performs subsonic operations across the network in an effort to maintain profitability. The authors believe that the airlines might consider operating high-passenger-density versions of subsonic aircraft on routes that also see supersonic operations to compensate for the shifting of some of the premium subsonic passengers to the supersonic service, and to maintain their profitability on those routes at the least. The airlinesmay also implement changes to ticket prices for subsonic flights to continue to earn similar (or even higher) profits. This paper explores the impact this approach would have on overall operations by modeling the behavior of a profit-seeking airline (with a mixture of supersonic, subsonic, and high-passenger-density subsonic aircraft in its fleet) using the Fleet-Level Environmental Evaluation Tool (FLEET). Using a set of rules to identify potential supersonic routes and supersonic passenger demand, the FLEET simulation predicts supersonic aircraft operations on profitable routes and, then, how the airline satisfies the rest of its passenger demand with the high-density versions of subsonic aircraft on routes with supersonic operations, and current standard-density subsonic aircraft on routes with no supersonic operations, for a representative day for each year over a sequence of many years. Procedure design is a workload intensive process, relying on the experience of design specialists to collect and mentally integrate a diverse set of information to create a desirable route. While designers can leverage automation to evaluate the feasibility of a proposed design, there is little support to guide design changes if criteria failures are returned. This paper proposes an algorithmic approach for generating automated recommendations of Standard Terminal Arrival route revisions that resolve certain common criteria failures. Specifically, the algorithm generates an integrated design space - captured as a three-dimensional grid - to provide a comprehensive view of the constraints and considerations impacting a potential design. Leveraging procedural criteria, the grid is then transformed into a network, permitting fast-time computation of candidate alternatives which are subsequently evaluated for both adherence to design criteria and the trade-space of performance objectives. The approach is demonstrated on two existing procedures that contain different types of failures, and in both case studies the algorithm generates multiple failure-free options that span the trade-space of performance metrics considered. The demonstrated success of the approach highlights the viability and utility of providing automation to support the procedure design process.

One-shot optimization is an efficient method for simultaneously solving and optimizing a problem, such as problems in aerodynamic shape optimization. The proposed one-shot framework uses a preconditioned design update in order to ensure convergence of the coupled primal, adjoint, and design solvers. This paper builds upon previous work which applied one-shot optimization to problems with equality constraints on top of the state and co-state equations. In particular, this work proposes a one-shot optimization framework for design problems with inequality constraints.

The winding design of an electrical machine is an important task in the whole design process. This leads, for a part, to the magneto motive force which is one of the main quantities to manage for electrical machine performances. Indeed, the latter is directly linked to that of the air gap magnetic flux density and thus to the torque ripples, vibration and then noise. This paper proposes to reduce the MMF harmonic content by means of optimization process using mono-objective or multi-objective algorithms with discrete and continuous variables. For this aim, optimization algorithm is coupled with an analytical tool which enables calculating quickly the MMF harmonic content from winding parameters. A winding optimization of three different windings with the same number of pole pairs is proposed to show the suitability of this process.
