Orthogonal binary sequences play an important role in Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar. However, mainly due to mathematical difficulties, the synthesis problem of multiple binary sequences with low auto and cross correlation sidelobes is still an open problem. In this paper, mismatched filter, which basically aims at reducing the sidelobe levels at the pulse compression output, is exploited and multiple binary sequences and mismatched filters are optimized by joint synthesis algorithms (JSA), based on an alternating direction method. JSA for minimizing the integrated sidelobe level (ISL) and peak sidelobe level (PSL) metrics are proposed, and the corresponding computation complexities are analyzed. Simulation results show the effectiveness of our proposed algorithms.

Pipelining image compositing in heterogeneous networking environments

Because of intensive inter-node communications, image compositing has always been a bottleneck in parallel visualization systems. In a heterogeneous networking environment, the variation of link bandwidth and latency adds more uncertainty to the system performance. In this paper, we present a pipelining image compositing algorithm in heterogeneous networking environments, which is able to rearrange the direction of data flow of a compositing pipeline under strict ordering constraint. We introduce a novel directional image compositing operator that specifies not only the color and. channels of the output but also the direction of data flow when performing compositing. Based on this new operator, we thoroughly study the properties of image compositing pipelines in heterogeneous environments. We develop an optimization algorithm that could find the optimal pipeline from an exponentially large searching space in polynomial time. We conducted a comprehensive evaluation on the ns-3 network simulator. Experimental results demonstrate the efficiency of our method. Copyright (C) 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

In this study, we developed the Allometric Scaling and Resource Limitations (ASRL) model by using the best GLAS tree heights to optimize the ASRL. At first, we obtained the best metric of GLAS tree heights by comparing with LVIS tree heights in six sites. Then, the best metric GLAS tree heights were separately used to optimize ASRL model and test the accuracy of prediction heights from optimized ASRL model in sites scale and country scale. Validation result showed that predicted tree heights from optimized ASRL model had high accuracy.

This paper presents an algorithm for optimal placement and size of the Distributed energy resources (DERs) considering system loss minimization and voltage profile improvement as objective functions. DERs- are the energy resources which contain renewable energy resources such as wind, solar and fuel cell and some artificial models like micro turbines, gas turbines, diesel engines, sterling engines, and internal combustion reciprocating engines. Combinations of DER studies and for every combination, indices, active and reactive losses and voltage profiles are studied. To optimize the objective function, new optimization technique called Bat algorithm(BA) is proposed. The Bat algorithm is tested on 37-bus distribution system with different load models like residential, Industrial, Commercial and Mixed loads. For all cases current injection based distribution load flow method is used.

Modern laboratory techniques allow studying NMDA receptors (NMDAR) either anatomically with specific antibodies coupled to sophisticated confocal microscopy, or physiologically by live imaging or electrophysiological techniques. However, NMDARs are not fixed in time and space and changes in their composition and/or distribution on the post-synaptic membrane may significantly impact the synaptic strength and overall function. The computational modeling approach therefore constitutes a complementary tool for investigating the properties of biological systems based on the knowledge provided by the lab experiments. Here, we describe a general computational method aiming at developing kinetic Markov-chain based models of NMDARs subtypes capable of reproducing various experimental results. These models are then used to make predictions on additional (non-obvious) properties and on their role in synaptic function under various physiological and pharmacological conditions. For the purpose of this book chapter, we will focus on the method used to develop a NMDAR model that includes pharmacological site of action of different compounds. Notably, this elementary model can subsequently be included in a neuron model (not described in detail here) to explore the impact of their differential distribution on synaptic functions. less
