Insights into synergistic effects of oxygen content and reaction temperature on gas product emissions and solid product deposition behaviors during biomass gasification process

In this study, a comprehensive study of biomass gasification behaviors via using a fixed-bed tube reactor was conducted. The effects of reaction temperature and oxygen content in the gasifying agent on different products yields, gas emissions, and solid product characteristics were investigated. The results indicated that with increasing gasification temperature, the gaseous product yield increased while the solid product yield illustrated a reverse trend. By contrast, the liquid yield first increased rapidly, then decreased gradually. Elevating oxygen concentration in the gasifying agent resulted in a decrease of solid yield. During the whole gasification process, the emission of CO was a bit earlier than CO2 regardless the gasification temperature used. The increasing oxygen concentration resulted in an increase of CO2 yield while the CO yield showed an opposite trend due to combustion reactions. Compared with low temperature ashes (400 and 600 degrees C), the high temperature ash (800 degrees C) showed a much denser structure with agglomeration, indicating that the elevated gasification temperature could aggravate the ash deposition tendency in the practical applications on account of the fusion of low melting point eutectics containing a large amount of alkali species. The effects of oxygen contents on ash deposition were insignificant. Herein, the results of ash characteristics could provide theoretical and practical insights into both ash deposition and its potential applications.

Effect of Si3N4 powder modified by sebacic acid on slurry properties and oxygen content of ceramics

The silicon nitride (Si3N4) powders were modified using sebacic acid for aqueous tape casting to fabricate Si3N4 ceramic substrates. The effects of the powder modification on the chemical composition, slurry properties and the oxygen content of ceramics were investigated systematically. New organic groups from sebacic acid appear on Si3N4 powder surfaces by graft or adsorption and the dehydration-condensation reaction is weak. The slurry from the modified Si3N4 powder with more sebacic acid possesses a lower Delta pH, higher absolute value of zeta potential, stronger absorbance and lower viscosity, improving the hydrolysis resistance, dispersibility, stability and solid content successfully of aqueous suspensions. Si3N4 ceramic substrates fabricated at 1850 degrees C under nitrogen atmosphere from the corresponding aqueous casting tapes have the lowest oxygen content of 0.13 wt%, demonstrating that the modification of Si3N4 powders by sebacic acid shows great potential for the aqueous tape casting to fabricate Si3N4 ceramic substrates.

Ultra-high temperature ceramic TaC precursor with high ceramic yield and low oxygen content after pyrolysis enhanced by carbon source chelated three-dimensional network structure

Development of UHTCs precursors with a high ceramic yield, low viscosity at high solid content, and low oxygen content of after pyrolysis is crucial for UHTCs-modified C/Cs composites fabricated by PIP process. In the present work, four types of TaC precursors with varying microstructures were designed and synthesized. The effects of the precursor microstructure on the morphology, size, ceramic yield and oxygen content after pyrolysis were investigated. The findings demonstrate that the three-dimensional network structure may lower the oxygen content of pyrolysis products and that the carbon source chelated structure can significantly increase the ceramic yield of TaC precursor. After pyrolysis at 1500 degrees C, the ceramic yield of the TaC precursor, TCP-4, was 51.80 wt%, and the oxygen content of the pyrolysis product was only 0.48 wt%. The TCP-4 ethanol solution at 90 wt% viscosity is 67.03 mPa S which meets the requirements of the PIP process. The formation thermodynamics of carbon source chelated three-dimensional network structure is analyzed. The present work not only provides a high-performance TaC precursor, but also offers a novel idea and approach for development of other ultra-high temperature ceramic precursors.

Effects of Heater and Insulation Ring Designs on oxygen content of Large-Diameter Silicon Grown by Czochralski Method

Large-diameter monocrystalline silicon wafers with affordable costs dominate the photovoltaic market. Strict control of oxygen content has been proposed to improve quality of silicon wafers and to promote efficiency of solar cells. The aim of this study is to reduce oxygen by analyzing the effect of hot zone structure on oxygen concentration at the crystal-melt interface for 12-inch Czochralski silicon grown from 40-inch quartz crucible. The numerical simulation results show oxygen decreases with elevated heater position related to melt free surface and closer distance between heater and insulation ring. The main reasons are suppression of heat radiation from heater to crucible bottom, and enhancement of thermocapillary convection. With the optimized hot zone structure, lower oxygen content and more uniform axial oxygen distribution can be achieved, which will benefit Cz-Si producers.

Relationship between oxygen content and Crystal Structure of W Films Electrodeposited in Molten CsF-CsCl-WO3

The formation of W film with different crystal structures, alpha-W and beta-W, has been reported in molten salt electroplating;however, the mechanism has not been sufficiently explored in previous studies. Here, the electrochemical behavior of W ions and the relationship between the oxygen content and crystal structure of electrodeposited W films were investigated in CsF-CsCl eutectic melts after adding 2.0 mol% of WO3 at 773-973 K. The oxygen content in W films electrodeposited at various temperatures was analyzed using an inert gas fusion infrared absorption method. The oxygen content in the W films gradually decreased from 6.65 to 0.19 at% as the bath temperature increased from 773 to 973 K, and the crystal phase changed from beta-W to alpha-W, as confirmed by X-ray diffractometry. Then, vacuum annealing treatment was performed on the beta-W films electrodeposited at 823 K. Mirror-like alpha-W films were obtained after annealing at 973 K for 3 h;the oxygen content in the films decreased from 1.82 to 0.41 at%. This result shows that mirror-like alpha-W films are obtained by a two-step method of electrodeposition and vacuum annealing.

Role of oxygen content and Humidity on Adhesion and Damage Behavior of Wheel-Rail Interface Under Low Temperature

The adhesion and damage behavior of the wheel-rail contact is crucial for the safety of railway operations. To investigate the effects of oxygen content and humidity of airflow on the adhesion and damage behavior of the wheel-rail interface, tribological testing of the wheel-rail interface is conducted using a rolling-sliding contact in the laboratory. Results show that the adhesion coefficient of the wheel-rail interface decreases with the increase of relative humidity (RH). The content of Fe2+ increases with the increase of humidity of the airflow, which promotes hydration reactions. Specifically, under the condition of RH = 50%, the presence of an appropriate amount of water molecules in the environment, results in a higher degree of oxidation on the worn surface of the wheels and the formation of a large amount of oxides. Furthermore, Fe3+ and Fe2+ are easily generated on the surface when the oxygen content around the environment is sufficient or insufficient, respectively. In the oxygen enrichment condition, a higher amount of Fe2O3 is observed, whereas for the hypoxic condition, the oxide film cannot be quickly formed again after being damaged, resulting in more severe wear on the wheel-rail interface because of the lower oxygen content in the surrounding environment. This work provides critical insights into the friction properties as well as wear mechanism in response to humidity and oxygen content when the wheel-rail interface encounters the humid and warm airflow with different humidity levels in the tunnel, which is crucial for proposing effective measures to improve the adhesion of wheel-rail interface and avoid the occurrence of the low adhesion problems. Insights into the effects of oxygen content regulation on the microstructure and mechanical properties of in situ ODS 304 L stainless steel processed by laser powder bed fusion

Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) is a widely used and well-developed approach in additive manufacturing. To meet the high material performance requirements of fourth-generation nuclear power reactors, the combination of LPBF processing with oxide dispersion strengthening (ODS) is currently of interest for the design and development of new materials. In this approach, nanoscale Y2O3 particles are dispersed into the feeding powders to produce LPBF-ODS materials. oxygen exposure and the introduction of oxygen into the solvation cell during LPBF are usually considered as detrimental processes that are impossible to eliminate completely. However, our understanding of these unavoidable processes is still limited. In this study, we developed a new LPBF-ODS design approach based on in situ oxygen content regulation during the LPBF process. The oxygen content of the environmental chamber was artificially adjusted using an online monitoring system to activate reactions between oxygen and the metallic elements for the in situ formation of dispersed oxide particles. Four batches of LPBF 304 L stainless steel samples were successfully processed under different oxygen levels to investigate the reinforcement effect of in situ chemical alloying. The results show that dispersed oxide particles were formed with an average nanoscale size of approximately 46 nm through the LPBF in situ alloying approach. The increase in the number density of oxide particles to 11.4 particles mu/mu m(2) as the oxygen content increased played a role in refining and stabilizing the cellular structure. The yield strength of the in situ alloyed ODS material was enhanced (to up to similar to 675 MPa) while its ductility was not significantly degraded (elongation of up to similar to 39%). These tensile properties are competitive within the ranges reported for ODS alloys prepared by mechanical alloying. 3D printing is an important way of food processing. However, some fruit and vegetable materials, such as bananas, are prone to oxidative browning during 3D printing. In this study, different mass ratios of banana paste and potato whole powder were used to prepare the banana-based system, which was applied as printing materials to investigate the effects of different oxygen content in the printing environment on the browning of the banana-based system. Results showed that the optimal printing material ratio of banana paste and potato whole powder was 87.5%:12.5%. With the lower oxygen content in the printing environment, the browning degree of the banana-based material during the printing process was smaller, and the loss degree of phenols, flavonoids, and antioxidant capacity was less. When the oxygen content was < 1%, there was no visual browning. This study is the first to systematically explore how controlled oxygen environments can inhibit browning during the 3D printing of banana-based materials, providing a foundation for inhibiting the browning of easily oxidative systems during 3D printing.

Ni/SiC fibers with low oxygen content and efficient electromagnetic wave absorption capability

The practical application temperature of SiC fibers is constrained by their high oxygen content. Furthermore, their electromagnetic absorption performance is compromised by limited loss mechanisms and insufficient attenuation capabilities. These factors collectively hinder the potential of SiC fibers as high-performance electromagnetic absorption materials. In this work, SiC fibers doped with nickel were successfully prepared through electrospinning and heat treatment. The experimental results demonstrate that nickel doping not only catalyzes the decomposition of the metastable SiOxCy phase in the composite fibers, reducing the oxygen content to below 6.2%, but also catalyzes the formation of a large amount of turbostratic carbon during the pyrolysis of the precursor polymer, endowing the Ni/SiC composite fibers with high dielectric loss capability and excellent wave absorption performance. For the Ni/SiC-1 composite fiber absorber with a thickness of 2.5 mm, the maximum effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) can reach 6.7 GHz;for the Ni/SiC-3 composite fiber absorber with a thickness of 3 mm, the minimum reflection loss (RL) value reaches -49.5 dB at 9 GHz. Moreover, Ni/SiC fibers possess outstanding flexibility and ultra-low density, making them an ideal choice as efficient electromagnetic wave absorbing materials under special conditions.

The impact of oxygen content on low-temperature mechanical properties and deformation mechanism of powder metallurgy Ti–6Al–4V

The mechanical behavior and deformation mechanism of powder metallurgy Ti alloys with oxygen content ranging from 1300 ppm to 4600 ppm is comprehensively studied. It is surprisingly found that the powder metallurgy Ti6Al4V with the oxygen contents of 1300 ppm–4600 ppm possesses exceptional mechanical properties synergy, reaching the strength of 940–1041 MPa and the elongation of 16.2 %∼15.7 %, at the ambient temperature. It can be possibly attributed to the remarkable increase of dislocations though the basal dislocations were significantly suppressed as the oxygen contents altering from 1300 ppm to 4600 ppm. With being subjected to the liquid nitrogen temperature, the ultimate tensile strength of the powder metallurgy Ti6Al4V switches to 1486–1671 MPa while the elongation can still maintain at the level of 16.5 % to 10.4 % at the designed oxygen range. The strength enhancement is due to the strain strengthening effect, which stems from the significantly boosted shear stress for the motion of dislocations at the low temperatures. Meanwhile, it is observed that as the increase of oxygen amount, much more wavy basal dislocations transform to planar dislocations at the temperature of 77 K. In addition, the type of {10–12} deformation twins are activated with respect to the specimen of 1300 ppm, allowing more relaxation of strain during the deformation and hence achieving higher ductility. This differs significantly to the counterparts where no deformation twins can be detected for the samples with the oxygen content of 4600 ppm.
