Printable parallel arrays of Si Nanowire Schottky-Barrier-FETs With Tunable Polarity for Complementary Logic

In this paper, we present a novel technology of printable bottom-up grown Si nanowire parallel arrays for low-dissipation power electronics. parallel aligned layers of monocrystalline Si nanowires can be deposited on arbitrary substrates over large areas by the printing process. The presented transistors consist of parallel arrays of longitudinal NiSi2-Si-NiSi2 nanowire heterostructures, which naturally showambipolar transistor behavior when a single gate is employed. By a double gate architecture, a reconfigurable transitor component is created, for which unipolar p-or n-type characteristics can be obtained depending on the polarity of the second gate. Transfer and output characteristics of these transistors on a Si/SiO2 substrate with back gate, top gate, and reconfigurable double gate architecture are presented here in detail. Very high ON/OFF-current ratios of over 108 are achieved with very low OFF-currents. Due to the high number of nanowires incorporated into individual parallel arrays, output currents of 0.5 mA and a high yield of functional transistors of close to 100% at nanowire coated areas are demonstrated.

Kinetic continuum models are derived for cells that crawl over a 2D substrate, undergo random reorientation, and turn in response to contact with a neighbor. The integro-partial differential equations account for changes in the distribution of orientations in the population. It is found that behavior depends on parameters such as total mass, random motility, adherence, and sloughing rates, as well as on broad aspects of the contact response. Linear stability analysis, and numerical, and cellular automata simulations reveal that as parameters are varied, a bifurcation leads to loss of stability of a uniform (isotropic) steady state, in favor of an (anisotropic) patterned state in which cells are aligned in parallel arrays.

Novel ZnO parallel ordered arrays with lamellar structure: Fabrication and characterization

Without templates or catalysts, large area ZnO parallel ordered arrays with lamellar structure have been successfully fabricated via a simple electrodeposition combined with annealing in air method. The ZnO nanowires arrays are parallel and equidistant with uniform diameters. The exterior of each ZnO nanowire is composed of abundant lamellar structure. The morphologies and chemical compositions have been characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), separately. UV-vis absorption and PL spectra have been tested to research the optical properties. The UV emission peak at about 380 nm and green emission peaks at about 490 nm and 540 nm can be found in PL spectrum. The experimental studies provide the feasibility for fabricating large area ZnO parallel ordered arrays by a simple and low-cost method. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Trace amounts of ethylene glycol present in crosslinked polyethylene during thermal aging are shown in experiments on miniature cables to exert a major accelerating effect on water-tree populations and growth. The morphology is changed from bow-tie to acicular. Few water trees grown under these conditions show foreign particles or bubbles as initiation sites. Vented trees are shown to be fan-shaped and occur in parallel arrays along the miniature cable axis under all conditions studied

Increasing the Uniform Degrees of Freedom for Moving q-Dilated arrays

For q-dilated arrays, i.e., dilated arrays with dilation factor q, the uniform degrees of freedom (uDOFs) of the synthetic array after array motion can be increased by a factor of q compared with that of original linear arrays for q <= 3. However, when q >= 4, the number of uDOFs of the synthetic arrays of q-dilated arrays is only three using existing moving array models. To achieve a high number of uDOFs for q-dilated arrays with q >= 4, in this article, we design a new moving array processing model in q-dilated arrays, which synthesizes multiple shifted arrays with displacements of half wavelength multiples. The number of shifted arrays in the proposed model is shown to be a function of the dilation factor q. First, we prove that the number of uDOFs of synthetic arrays of q-dilated arrays can be q times that of their original arrays for arbitrary positive integer q. Hence, the maximum number of detectable sources for direction of-arrival (DOA) estimation is increased by a factor of q. Second, we apply the new model to two-parallel q-dilated arrays to estimate the 2-D DOAs, increasing the number of identifiable sources by a factor of q for 2-D DOA estimation. Numerical examples show the superiority of the proposed model based on q-dilated arrays.

Displaced sensor array for improved signal detection under grazing incidence conditions

This paper proposes a displaced sensor array (DSA) configuration for estimating the angles of arrival of narrowband sources arriving at grazing incidence directions. Unlike the conventional uniform linear array (ULA) where all the array elements are aligned along one axis, the proposed DSA configuration comprises two displaced ULAs aligned on two parallel axes in the vertical plane. The steering vectors of the two parallel arrays differ from each other by only two multiplicative phase terms that represent the space factors due to the vertical separation and horizontal displacement of the two arrays. This makes the computational load of using MUSIC algorithm with the proposed DSA configuration identical to that of ULA yet the accuracy is much higher especially for cases involving narrowband sources arriving at grazing incidence angles. Simulation results obtained show that the proposed DSA configuration outperforms the conventional ULA in terms numerical accuracy and angular resolution.

Three-dimensional bistatic array imaging using range migration algorithm

Millimetre wave imaging systems are widely used in many fields, such as non-destructive testing, security screening and medical imaging. For security-related personnel screening, the geometries of planar and cylindrical-scanning antenna arrays are often adopted. A planar array imager is capable of acquiring a three-dimensional image in real time, but the information on the back side of the object will be lost. A cylindrical scanning imager is well suited for constructing an image in full 360 degrees directions, what is lost is the time that it takes to complete a full scan. Regardless, mechanical scanning geometry is not always the best approach for real-time systems. In this letter, an imaging scenario is proposed, which is composed of two parallel arrays facing each other. Multiple input multiple output technology is applied to the pair of arrays. Range migration algorithm is adapted specially for this scenario, through which nearly 360 degrees-images of high quality can be constructed in real time when an object is placed between the two arrays.

SIMULTANEOUS FREQUENCY AND DIRECTION ESTIMATION FROM parallel-ARRAY DATA

A new method is proposed which provides the simultaneous estimation of both the centre frequency and the direction of arrival of multiple narrowband sources. Based on rotational-invariance techniques, the joint estimates are computed directly by appropriate processing of data from particular types of array instead of searching in a two-dimensional space. As a result, the computational efficiency is improved significantly. Some important scenarios are considered such as signals arriving from the same direction but having different centre frequencies distributeed in a broadband frequency range. The potential capability are demonstrated by simulations.
