Mixed sliding mode fuzzy control for discrete-time non-linear stochastic systems subject to variance and passivity constraints

In this study, a novel multi-objective sliding mode fuzzy control technique is presented for a class of discrete-time non-linear stochastic systems that are represented by Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy models. Subject to variance and passivity constraints, parallel distributed compensation based sliding mode fuzzy control approach is investigated for the discrete-time T-S fuzzy models. Combining Lyapunov theory, passivity theory and covariance theory, sufficient conditions are derived to satisfy stability, passivity and variance constraints. The iterative linear matrix inequality algorithm is employed in this study to solve these sufficient conditions. The contribution of this study is to develop a novel sliding mode fuzzy control method such that the closed-loop discrete-time non-linear stochastic system achieves passivity constraint and individual state variance constraints, simultaneously. At last, the simulations of controlling a discrete-time non-linear ship steering system are given in a numerical example to demonstrate the effectiveness and usefulness of proposed sliding mode fuzzy control methodology.

A new fuzzy Lyapunov approach to non-quadratic stabilization of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy models

In this paper, new non-quadratic stability conditions are derived based on the parallel distributed compensation scheme to stabilize Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems. We use a non-quadratic Lyapunov function as a fuzzy mixture of multiple quadratic Lyapunov functions. The quadratic Lyapunov functions share the same membership functions with the T-S fuzzy model. The stability conditions we propose are less conservative and stabilize also fuzzy systems which do not admit a quadratic stabilization. The proposed approach is based on two, assumptions. The first one relates to a proportional relation between multiple Lyapunov functions and the second one considers an upper bound to the time derivative of the premise membership functions. To illustrate the advantages of our proposal, four examples are given.

In the nonlinear dynamic equations of the electric vehicle, parameters such as the coefficient of friction between the tires and the road, the coefficient of traction, the resistance of the anchor, and so on have ambiguities. Designing a controller that is robust to the existence of these parametric ambiguities and also to external disturbances, while still satisfying the optimality criteria, is a challenging task. In practical applications, in addition to the problems mentioned above, the computing load of the control input should also be taken into account and a sensible interaction between the performance desired by the controller and the computing volume should be offered. In the present work, a robust, optimally stable fuzzy controller based on parallel distributed compensation is designed using the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model of the electric vehicle. The fuzzy model stabilizer feedback gains, the upper bound of uncertainties, the upper bound of disturbance effect, and the upper bound of the cost function are obtained completely offline by solving a minimization problem based on the linear matrix inequality. Therefore, the calculation volume of the control input is extremely small. This allows the proposed control to be put into practice. The good performance of the proposed controller is demonstrated in five-stage simulations.

This article proposes a design method for producing H-infinity control performance for structural systems using the Tagagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. A structural system with a tuned mass damper is modeled using a T-S type fuzzy model. Using the parallel distributed compensation (PDC) scheme, we design a nonlinear fuzzy controller for the tuned mass damper system. A sufficient stability condition for the control system is derived in terms of Lyapunov theory and this control problem is reformulated into solving the linear matrix inequalities (LMI) problem. Finally, the tuned mass damper is designed based on the first modal frequency of the control system and a fuzzy controller to stabilize the structural system is then found using the Matlab LMI toolbox. A simulation example is given to show the feasibility of the proposed fuzzy controller design method.

Anticontrol of chaos for a continuous-time Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy system via local time-delay feedback

In this paper, a simple and systematic control design method is proposed for making a continuous-time Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy system chaotic. The concept of parallel distributed compensation is employed to determine the structure of a fuzzy controller from a T-S fuzzy model. The fuzzy controller makes the T-S fuzzy model, which could be stable or unstable, bounded and chaotic. The verification of chaos in the closed-loop T-S fuzzy system is done by the following procedure. First, we establish an asymptotically approximate relationship between a continuous-time T-S fuzzy system with time-delay and a discrete-time T-S fuzzy system. Then, we verify the chaos in the closed-loop T-S fuzzy system by applying the Marotto theorem to its associated discrete-time T-S fuzzy system. The generated chaos is in the sense of Li and Yorke. Two examples are given to show that this methodology is simple and effective for anticontrol of chaos for a continuous-time T-S fuzzy system.

T-S fuzzy model with nonlinear consequence and PDC controller for a class of nonlinear control systems

In this paper a new Takagi-Sugeno ( T-S) fuzzy model with nonlinear consequence ( TSFMNC) is presented which can approximate a class of smooth nonlinear systems, nonlinear dynamical systems and nonlinear control systems. It is also proved that Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy controller with nonlinear consequence ( TSFCNC) can be used to approximate a class of nonlinear state-feedback controllers using the so-called parallel distributed compensation ( PDC) method. The inverted pendulum problem has been simulated with TSFCNC and compared with Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy controller with linear consequence ( TSFCLC) and the results show that TSFCNC performs better than TSFCLC. A real-life example of dynamic positioning of ship is simulated and the results also show that TSFCNC performs better than TSFCLC. (c) 2006 Elsevier B. V. All rights reserved.

More Relaxed Non-Quadratic Stabilization Conditions Using Ts Open Loop System and Control Law Properties

This paper proposes more relaxed stabilization conditions based on a non-quadratic Lyapunov function (NQLF) and parallel distributed compensator (PDC) controller. The conditions are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) by introducing three slack matrices based on the properties of TS membership functions, an open loop system and a PDC controller. These slack matrices are utilized to decouple the LMI variables from the TS system and the input matrices. Therefore, the proposed approach greatly reduces the number of LMI conditions and improves feasibility by providing more degrees of freedom compared to recently published studies. Moreover, local stability and stabilization conditions are considered to handle the time derivatives of membership functions appearing in the stabilization synthesis of the TS closed-loop system with PDC controller. Finally, several examples are presented to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed approaches.

LMI approach for robust stabilization of Takagi-Sugeno descriptor systems with input saturation

The aim of this article is to present a systematic framework for the design of a robust controller for uncertain nonlinear systems represented in the Takagi-Sugeno descriptor form. The design takes explicitly into account state constraints and also the saturation of the control input. Based on Lyapunov theory, the tuning of the control parameters can be done by solving an optimization problem with linear matrix inequality constraints. Two numerical examples are included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

A new method for control of nonlinear networked systems

Networked control of a class of nonlinear systems is considered. For this purpose, the previously proposed variable selective control (VSC) methodology is extended to the nonlinear systems. This extension is based upon the decomposition of the nonlinear system to a set fuzzy-blended locally linearized subsystems, and further application of the VSC methodology to each subsystem. Using the idea of parallel distributed compensation (PDC) method, the closed-loop stability of the overall networked system is guaranteed, using new linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). For the real-time implementation, real-time control signals are constructed for every entry of pre-specified vector of time delays, which is selected based on the presumed upper-bound of the network time delay. Similar to the traditional packet-base control methodology, such control signals are then packed as a control-side packet and transmitted back to a time delay compensator (TDC) located on the plant-side of the network. According to the most recent network time delay, the TDC selects just one entry of the control vector and applies it to the actuator through a zero order hold element. A sufficient condition for closed-loop asymptotic stability is determined. Simulation studies on nonlinear benchmark problems demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. In this paper, a new stability analysis and design method for the fuzzy logical systems described by the Takagi-Sugeno model is proposed. The proposed fuzzy controller is implemented by a parallel distributed compensation structure. The closed-loop system can be expressed as a linear time-variant system. A minimum transition matrix set can be determined by the fuzzy rule structure, so that it contains the transition matrices of the closed-loop system. Thus the stability of the system defined over the set is sufficient to ensure the stability of the closed-loop system. A common l(infinity) Lyapunov function method is employed for the stability analysis of the system defined over the transition matrix set. It is proved that the existence of the l(infinity) Lyapunov function is the sufficient and necessary stability condition of the system defined over the transition matrix set. Thus the l(infinity) Lyapunov function can be applied to more cases than quadratic Lyapunov functions. A convenient stability criterion based on l(infinity) Lyapunov function is also given in this paper. By using geometric properties of l(infinity) Lyapunov functions, an iterative algorithm is introduced to construct the required 1, Lyapunov function. (C) 2002 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
