This paper addresses the application of a Bayesian parameter estimation method to a regional seismic risk assessment of curved concrete bridges. For this purpose, numerical models of case-study bridges are simulated to generate multiparameter demand models of components, consisting of various uncertainty parameters and an intensity measure (IM). The demand models are constructed using a Bayesian parameter estimation method and combined with limit states to derive the parameterized fragility curves. These fragility curves are used to develop bridge-specific and bridge-class fragility curves. Moreover, a stepwise removal process in the Bayesian parameter estimation is performed to identify significant parameters affecting component demands.

parameterized, concurrent session types for asynchronous multi-actor interactions

Session types have been proposed as a means of statically verifying implementations of communication protocols. Although prior work has been successful for some classes of protocols, it does not cope well with parameterized, multi-actor scenarios with inherent asynchrony. For example, the sliding window protocol is not expressible in previously proposed session type notations. This article defines System-A: a novel session type system, as well the associated programming language that together overcome many of the limitations of prior work. With explicit support for asynchrony and concurrency, as well as multiple forms of parameterization, we demonstrate that System-A can be used for the static verification of a large class of asynchronous communication protocols. A residuated implication operator (R-implications) is a fuzzy material implication operator defined in terms of its corresponding T-norm. This paper is concerned with a family of R-implications derived from the Schweizer-Sklar family of parameterized T-norms. Analysis of fuzzy and defuzzified outputs from two- and three-rule systems includes proper and improper fuzzy set outputs and exact defuzzified solutions for important special cases such as Godel-Brouwer, Goguen, and Lukasiewicz implications. A rule can be characterized as strong or weak in its interaction with a neighboring rule. If two rules both interact with one another weakly, there exists a range of y values all of which are 100% compatible with both rules given any x in their domain of interaction. The paper concludes with a discussion of the joint effect of the strength of rule interaction and the value of the Schweizer-Sklar parameter. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science 13N. All rights reserved.

A parameterized non-intrusive reduced order model and error analysis for general time-dependent nonlinear partial differential equations and its applications

A novel parameterized non-intrusive reduced order model (P-NIROM) based on proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) has been developed. This P-NIROM is a generic and efficient approach for model reduction of parameterized partial differential equations (P-PDEs). Over existing parameterized reduced order models (P-ROM) (most of them are based on the reduced basis method), it is non-intrusive and independent on partial differential equations and computational codes. During the training process, the Smolyak sparse grid method is used to select a set of parameters over a specific parameterized space (ohm(p) is an element of R-P). For each selected parameter, the reduced basis functions are generated from the snapshots derived from a run of the high fidelity model. More generally, the snapshots and basis function sets for any parameters over Op can be obtained using an interpolation method. The P-NIROM can then be constructed by using our recently developed technique (Xiao et al., 2015 [ 41,42]) where either the Smolyak or radial basis function (RBF) methods are used to generate a set of hyper-surfaces representing the underlying dynamical system over the reduced space. The new P-NIROM technique has been applied to parameterized Navier-Stokes equations and implemented with an unstructured mesh finite element model. The capability of this P-NIROM has been illustrated numerically by two test cases: flow past a cylinder and lock exchange case. The prediction capabilities of the P-NIROM have been evaluated by varying the viscosity, initial and boundary conditions. The results show that this P-NIROM has captured the quasi-totality of the details of the flow with CPU speedup of three orders of magnitude. An error analysis for the P-NIROM has been carried out. In this letter, a path loss indoor propagation model is parameterized. This model is suitable for application in 4G and wireless networks and maybe applied in both LTE and LTE-A system level simulators. This paper presents a parameterized simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (SPICE) model of a two-level microbolometer based on negative-temperature-coefficient thin films, such as vanadium oxide or amorphous silicon. The proposed modeling begins from the electric-thermal analogy and is realized on the SPICE modeling environment. The model consists of parametric components whose parameters are material properties and physical dimensions, and can be used for the fast design study, as well as for the co-design with the readout integrated circuit. The developed model was verified by comparing the obtained results with those from finite element method simulations for three design cases. The thermal conductance and the thermal capacity, key performance parameters of a microbolometer, showed the average difference of only 4.77% and 8.65%, respectively.

Approximating the asymmetric p-center problem in parameterized complete digraphs

The asymmetric p-center problem (ApCP) was proved by Chuzhoy et al. (STOC'04) to be NP-hard to approximate within a factor of log*n-Theta(1) unless NP subset of DTIME(nloglogn). This paper studies ApCP and the vertex-weighted asymmetric p-center problem (WApCP). First, we propose four classes of parameterized complete digraphs, alpha-CD, (alpha,beta)-CD, -CD and (alpha,beta,gamma)-CD, from the angle of the parameterized upper bound on the ratio of two asymmetric edge weights between vertices as well as on the ratio of two vertex weights, and the parameterized triangle inequality, respectively. Using the greedy approach, we achieve a (1+alpha)- and beta center dot(1+alpha)-approximation algorithm for the ApCP in alpha-CD's and (alpha,beta)-CD's, respectively, as well as a (1+alpha gamma)- and beta center dot(1+alpha gamma)-approximation algorithm for the WApCP in -CD's and (alpha,beta,gamma)-CD's, respectively.

Global state control for a class of inherently higher-order parameterized nonlinear time-delay systems based on homogeneous domination approach

This paper addresses the problem of global state feedback stabilization for a class of inherently higher-order parameterized nonlinear systems subject to time delay. By using the homogeneous domination approach, we construct a homogeneous state feedback controller with an adaptive strategy. A constructive design method is developed based an effective coupling of the inductive method and a sign function, leading to adaptive regulators with minimal parameterization. With the aid of a homogeneous Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, the closed-loop systems can be asymptotically stabilized globally.

Analysis and design of broadband Doherty power amplifier using parameterized load modulation network and complex combining load

This paper presents a novel approach to design broadband Doherty power amplifiers (DPAs) with extended fractional bandwidth (FBW). A parameterized load modulation network (LMN) and complex combining loads are proposed that can extend the FBW while providing more accurate back-off impedance. To examine the influence of parameter variations in the LMN on the broadband performance of the DPA, we utilize the parameter scanning method and subsequently select the optimal parameters in the LMN. Additionally, threedimensional computer visualization techniques is invoked to visually examine the impedance solution space of the complex combining loads. A DPA prototype with a bandwidth of 0.85-1.8 GHz is then designed and implemented using commercial GaN transistors to validate the proposed architecture. The fabricated DPA attains a measured gain of 14.2-15.7 dB and a saturated power of 43.0-44.9 dBm. Across the designed operation band, the measured drain efficiency reached 51.6%-73.6% at saturation and 43.7%-56.7% at 6 dB output power back-off. When driven by a 20 MHz modulated signal with a peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of 8 dB, the average efficiency of the fabricated DPA is higher than 46.7%.

An advanced hybrid deep adversarial autoencoder for parameterized nonlinear fluid flow modelling

Considering the high computation cost required in conventional computation fluid dynamic simulations, machine learning methods have been introduced to flow dynamic simulations in years, aiming on reducing CPU time. In this work, we propose a hybrid deep adversarial autoencoder (VAE-GAN) to integrate generative adversarial network (GAN) and variational autoencoder (VAE) for predicting parameterized nonlinear fluid flows in spatial and temporal dimensions. High-dimensional inputs are compressed into the low-dimensional representations by nonlinear functions in a convolutional encoder. In this way, the predictive fluid flows reconstructed in a convolutional decoder contain the dynamic fluid flow physics of high nonlinearity and chaotic nature. In addition, the low-dimensional representations are applied to the adversarial network for model training and parameter optimization, which enables fast computation process. The capability of the hybrid VAE-GAN is illustrated by varying inputs on a flow past a cylinder test case as well as a second case of water column collapse. Numerical results show that this hybrid VAE-GAN has successfully captured the spatio-temporal flow features with CPU speed-up of three orders of magnitude. These promising results suggest that the hybrid VAE-GAN can play a critical role in efficiently and accurately predicting complex flows in future research efforts. (c) 2020 Elsevier B.V.
