The existing improved Raft consensus mechanisms suffer from unreasonable partitioning and an inability to tolerate Byzantine nodes. This paper proposes a Byzantine fault-tolerant Raft consensus mechanism based on comprehensive evaluation partitioning (CB-Raft). The nodes are evaluated comprehensively in terms of consensus behaviors and location, and the nodes are partitioned according to the parity of the comprehensive evaluation score ranking, which solves the problem of inefficient consensus;and the nodes communicate with each other based on BLS signatures to tolerate Byzantine nodes. The experimental results show that compared with that of Raft, the latency of CB-Raft is reduced by 70%, and the throughput is improved by 80.8%. CB-Raft has high consensus performance and good resistance to Byzantine nodes, making it suitable for blockchain application scenarios with large-scale nodes.

In order to explore the most recent data and react faster to changes of business conditions, organizations consider Real-Time Data Warehousing (RTDW) as a powerful technique to achieve OLAP (On Line Analytical Processing) analyses and business intelligence (BI). OLAP analyses are complex since they query several relational tables with huge volumes. In order to deal with this volumetry, several optimization techniques have been proposed in the literature as materialized views and data partitioning. partitioning is an effective method to increase query efficiency in a data warehouse. This paper proposes a novel data partitioning approach for real-time data warehouse, called 2LPA-RTDW (Two-Level data partitioning Approach for Real-Time Data Warehouse) by allowing unbalance of data amount in each partition while taking into account user requirements. We have evaluated the proposed approach using the new TPC-DS1 benchmark;the preliminary results show that the approach is quite interesting.

This paper presents an electrical network graph partitioning technique that divides a power network into zones. The idea of partitioning is to prevent the propagation of disturbances between zones and avoid cascading events in response to disturbances. Identifying coherent groups of buses in power electrical networks is crucial to implement efficient control strategies based on partitioning techniques. Furthermore, the coherent buses can be used for model reduction of complex power systems. Graph theory has an excellent capability to simplify large connoted networks such as the case with large power networks. In this paper, graph partitioning algorithm is applied to electrical networks including IEEE 39-bus and IEEE 118-bus. Graphs with and without weights are considered to investigate and compare the results of using graph partition algorithm. Weights in a graph power system can be real, reactive or apparent power transferred between buses. Finally, disturbances are intentionally inserted on the loads to verify the performance of partitioned power network to violation. The results show the performance and ability of graph partitioning when used in conjunction with a large power network.

gold-MUSIC: A Variation on MUSIC to Accurately Determine Peaks of the Spectrum

This paper presents a new way of accurately determining peaks of the MUSIC ("Multiple emitter location and signal parameter estimation," R. O. Schmidt, IEEE Trans. Antennas and Propagation, vol. AP-34, no. 3, pp. 276-280, Mar. 1986) spectrum, here considered from the point of view of estimating the directions of arrival (DOAs) of narrowband signals. It can be used, with any smart antenna geometry and for any purpose where MUSIC is applicable. The MUSIC algorithm for DOA estimation evaluates the MUSIC spectrum for various angles and chooses the maxima or peaks as the angles of arrival. The values obtained depend on the interval at which the spectrum is evaluated. The coarser the interval, the less accurate are the results in case of MUSIC. To improve accuracy and not depend on the interval, Root-MUSIC (" Direction finding for diversely polarized signals using polynomial rooting," A. J. Weiss and B. Friedlander, IEEE Trans. Signal Processing, vol. 41, no. 5, pp. 1893-1905, May 1993), which involves finding the roots of a polynomial, is available. However, Root-MUSIC is applicable, in its original form, only to uniform linear arrays (ULA). The gold-MUSIC algorithm proposed in this paper is a two-stage process. The first stage evaluates the objective function at coarse intervals and determines peaks followed by an iterative approach based on gold-section univariate (GSU) minimization (algorithms for Minimization Without Derivatives, R. Brent, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, USA: Prentice-Hall, 1983) to find accurate values of the peaks. If the number of peaks found so far is equal to the number of estimated peaks, the algorithm stops with this first stage. The second stage is an iterative step for fine resolution using finer intervals around the peaks found so far for finding peaks that were missing in previous iterations. A new approach for nonlinear system identification and control based on modular neural networks (MNN) is proposed in this paper. The computational complexity of neural identification can be greatly reduced if the whole system is decomposed into several subsystems. This is obtained using a partitioning algorithm. Each local nonlinear model is associated with a nonlinear controller. These are also implemented by neural networks. The switching between the neural controllers is done by a dynamical switcher, also implemented by neural networks, that tracks the different operating points. The proposed multiple modelling and control strategy has been successfully tested on simulated laboratory scale liquid-level system.

Tuning fuzzy power-system stabilizers in multi-machine systems by global optimization algorithms based on efficient domain partitions

In this paper, the problem of global tuning of fuzzy power-system stabilizers (FPSSs) present in a multi-machine power system in order to damp the power system oscillations is considered. In particular, it is formulated as a problem of global minimization of a multiextremal black-box function over a multidimensional hyperinterval. A global optimization technique, recently proposed, is used for solving the stated problem: the search hyperinterval is partitioned into smaller hyperintervals and the objective function is evaluated only at two vertices corresponding to the main diagonal of the generated hyperintervals, thus avoiding unnecessary ponderous simulations. Then, the performances of this technique are numerically compared with ones of a genetic algorithm (GA). (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Hierarchical and decentralised model predictive control of drinking water networks: application to Barcelona case study

A hierarchical and decentralised model predictive control (DMPC) strategy for drinking water networks (DWN) is proposed. The DWN is partitioned into a set of subnetworks using a partitioning algorithm that makes use of the topology of the network, historic information about the actuator usage and heuristics. A suboptimal DMPC strategy was derived, which consists in a set of MPC controllers, whose prediction model is a plant partition, where each element solves its control problem in a hierarchical order. A comparative simulation study between centralised MPC (CMPC) and DMPC approaches is developed using a case study, which consists in an aggregate version of the Barcelona DWN. Results have shown the effectiveness of the proposed DMPC approach in terms of the scalability of computations with an acceptable admissible loss of performance in all the considered scenarios.

Detailed Device-Level Electrothermal Modeling of the Proactive Hybrid HVDC Breaker for Real-Time Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation of DC Grids

This paper proposes a series of proactive hybrid high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) breaker (HHB) electromagnetic transient models that can be implemented in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) emulation for real-time execution on the field-programmable gate array (FPGA). To achieve high fidelity, an HHB model should have the same configuration as the real one, and three different models for an insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT), i.e., a two-state switch model, a curve-fitting model, and an improved non-linear behavioral model, are proposed to satisfy different accuracy and simulation speed requirements. Since designing an HHB with hundreds of IGBTs in a massive array would lead to an extremely heavy computational burden as well as to a high FPGA resource utilization, circuit partitioning is applied to each model, which enables decomposition into a number of physically independent subcircuits with smaller matrix dimension to exploit parallel implementation. Meanwhile, low hardware resource demand is achieved by using one of the subcircuits to represent the rest since they are identical. As the IGBTs produce a significant amount of heat, which in turn affects their performance, an electrothermal network is added as part of the model to provide specific information about the device's operation status including the junction temperature. The models are applied to a three-terminal HVDC system, where line faults are simulated to activate HHB protection sequence. Comparison of device-level and system-level performance from HIL emulation with those of commercial offline simulation tools validates the accuracy of the proposed models as well as the efficacy of the solution approach.

Advances in patch-based adaptive mesh refinement scalability

Patch-based structured adaptive mesh refinement (SAMR) is widely used for high-resolution simulations. Combined with modern supercomputers, it could provide simulations of unprecedented size and resolution. A persistent challenge for this combination has been managing dynamically adaptive meshes on more and more MPI tasks. The distributed mesh management scheme in SAMRAI has made some progress SAMR scalability, but early algorithms still had trouble scaling past the regime of 105 MPI tasks. This work provides two critical SAMR regridding algorithms, which are integrated into that scheme to ensure efficiency of the whole. The clustering algorithm is an extension of the tile-clustering approach, making it more flexible and efficient in both clustering and parallelism. The partitioner is a new algorithm designed to prevent the network congestion experienced by its predecessor. We evaluated performance using weak- and strong-scaling benchmarks designed to be difficult for dynamic adaptivity. Results show good scaling on up to 1.5M cores and 2M MPI tasks. SOLIT - AN AUTOMATED-SYSTEM FOR SYNTHESIZING RELIABLE SEQUENTIAL-CIRCUITS WITH MULTILEVEL LOGIC IMPLEMENTATION

The paper presents SOLiT, an automated system for synthesising reliable sequential circuits with multilevel logic implementation. The reliability enhancement is achieved by using concurrent error detection scheme with coding techniques. The system receives the behavioural description of finite-state machines, determines the required checker circuits, and generates the physical layouts. The synthesised circuits can detect multiple unidirectional errors. A novel output partitioning algorithm is presented to reduce the hardware cost of the required checker circuits. Results show that the overhead for reliability enhancement of the synthesised sequential circuits is relatively low.
