Limited Feedback Designs for Two-Way Relaying Systems with physical network coding

This paper considers a limited feedback system for two-way wireless relaying channels with physical network coding (PNC). For full feedback systems, the optimal structure with the PNC has already been studied where a modulo operation is employed. In this case, phase and power of two end node channels are adjusted to maximize the minimum distance. Based on this result, we design new quantization methods for the phase and the power in the limited feedback system. By investigating the minimum distance of the received constellation, we present a codebook design to maximize the worst minimum distance. Especially, for quantization of the power for 16-QAM, a new power quantization scheme is proposed to maximize the performance. Also, utilizing the characteristics of the minimum distance observed in our codebook design, we present a power allocation method which does not require any feedback information. Simulation results confirm that our proposed scheme outperforms conventional systems with reduced complexity.

This letter considers a multi-user wireless communication system employing physical network coding (PNC), where a pair of users communicates with each other via a relay. To attain reliable communication over time varying channels, we apply an opportunistic scheduling scheme for the PNC to both the broadcast channel phase and the multiple access channel phase. We propose two criteria for selecting users based on the channel norm and the minimum distance. Also, an efficient method to compute the minimum distance for superposed QPSK signals is introduced. Simulation results show that the proposed scheduling for PNC provides a significant improvement over conventional schemes.

Precoding Designs Based on Minimum Distance for Two-Way Relaying MIMO Systems with physical network coding

In this paper, we propose new precoding methods for two-way multiple input multiple output physical network coding (PNC) systems which employ the modulo operation. In our work, the transmit and receive filters are determined to maximize the minimum distance of the received constellations assuming global channel state information. The precoding operations are separately optimized for the multiple access (MA) and the broadcast stages, and the optimal precoding is obtained by applying a semidefinite relaxation method. Especially, we prove that for the system with linear detection the modulo operation for the PNC achieves optimality with the derived precoding for the MA stage in terms of the minimum distance. Also, we present a closed-form solution for the optimal filter designs for two special cases. For computing solutions, we transform our max min problem into a simple maximization problem by imposing additional constraints. Also, we propose a suboptimal non-iterative precoding scheme whose performance is within 1 dB at a bit error rate (BER) of 10(-4) compared to the optimum iterative method with much reduced complexity. Finally, the simulation results show that the proposed systems achieve 2-3 dB gains at a BER of 10(-4) compared to the optimal amplify-and-forward systems.

Optimal Power Control for OFDM Signals over Two-Way Relay with physical network coding

This paper describes an optimal power allocation scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiple access two-way relay networks with physical network coding. The aim is to enhance the achievable sum rate of the terminals for a constrained total transmit power. Convex optimization is used to derive a closed-form solution for the power allocation between the relay node and the two terminals. This reduces the variable dimensionality of the objective function for the power assignment problem among multiple carriers when the total transmit power is constrained. This solution is then used to derive the optimal power control scheme. This method reduces the implementation complexity compared with the traditional resource allocation scheme. Numerical and simulation results show that the approach achieves almost the optimal sum rate and outperforms the fixed power assignment method with less computational load in various scenarios.

We present in this paper a partial coherent receiver for detecting (at the relay) the modulo-2 sum bit of the uplink orthogonal modulations in a two-way relay communication system with physical network coding and fading. The detector exploits the availability of implicit pilot symbols in every signaling interval of an orthogonal modulation and is able to provide reasonably accurate data recovery without the need of sending pilot symbols. Using the characteristic function approach, we were able to derive a tight analytical upper bound on the bit-error-rate (BER) of the detector. The first component in the upper bound tells us that when the uplink symbols from the two users are identical, the BER approaches that of conventional point-to-point coherent detection, i.e. the multiple-access interference arising from physical network coding has no effect on the BER when the two data bits are identical. On the other hand, the second component in the upper bound shows that when the data from the two users are different, the BER increases dramatically. In essence, the BER of the proposed partial coherent detector is the average of those of the coherent and non-coherent detectors. We also outline in the paper a simple technique for achieving full coherent detection at the relay without resorting to transmitting any pilot symbols.

In this paper we consider the application of joint signal alignment (SA) and physical network coding (PNC) for the uplink of heterogeneous networks. The joint design of SA and PNC provides higher system degrees of freedom (DoF), than the case where only PNC or interference alignment (IA) is employed. The concept of SA-PNC is inspired by the recent advances in IA, where SA aligns signals not the interference. In fact, in SA design, there is no interference and all data transmissions are treated as signals. We consider a scenario where a set of small cells coexist under the same spectrum with the macro-cell. For this scenario, we design new joint SA and PNC based schemes under different levels of inter-tier coordination. We compare the proposed joint SA-PNC schemes with the IA based techniques, recently designed for uplink heterogeneous systems. Simulation results show that the proposed SA-PNC is quite efficient to remove the inter-tier/system interference while allowing to increase the overall data rate, by serving more users, as compared with the IA based ones.

physical layer network coding (PNC) significantly improves the throughput of the two-way relay channel (TWRC). However, most of current work on PNC just focuses on one pair users, and there are limit work on multi-pair PNC, in which the main bottleneck on system performance is the interference caused by the remaining communicating pairs. In this paper, we consider a scenario where multiple pairs communicate with each other through one relay node. For a purpose of comparison, we present the analytical capacities of the multi-pair version of the existing TWRC schemes in closed forms. Considering more practical issues such as the direction distribution of incident signals, we propose a spatial multi-pair physical layer network coding scheme. The novelty includes: in the multiple access phase, the log likelihood ratio combination scheme is proposed, which is robust in bad communication conditions;in the broadcast phase, two adaptive group broadcasting schemes are proposed, which can efficiently overcome the near interference problem. Simulation results validate the superiority of the proposed algorithms.

Under the background of TDD mode and LTE-Advanced scene, in this paper, we combine physical network coding with relay technology in order to make physical network coding-decode and forward(PNC-DF)together with physical network coding-amplify and forward(PNC-AF)transfer mode can be used to improve network throughput by using interference. Because of the ability to listen to the multi-user relay service, we need to optimize and select user group of physical network coding. In this paper, we use over-hearing mechanism in order to optimize user group, even more we also need to improve the department of transport protocol on delay. At last, depending on improved transport protocol, we design two kinds of frame structure which could adapt to improved transfer model. The simulation result shows that PNC-DF and PNC-AF with over-hearing mechanism could reduce the bit error rate.

In this paper we consider a two-way relaying system with two sources A, B and one relay R, where the two sources desire to exchange information through the relay. The transmission consists of two states: multiple access (MAC) stage, where A and B transmit the channel-coded signals to R simultaneously, and broadcast (BC) stage, where R transmits towards both A and B. One critical process at R is to decode the superimposed signal from A and B in such a way that A and B could decode the information from each other reliably at the BC stage. Instead of decoding the individual information belonging to A and B separately, R aims to decode the superimposed signal to the network-coded combination of the two source information, i.e., the binary XOR of the two source information. We refer this decoding process as the joint channel decoding and physical network encoding (JCNC). In this paper, a novel iterative decoding algorithm is presented for the physical network coding scheme, which is applicable to any linear channel code, e.g. Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) code. Furthermore, the two-way relaying scheme is extended to distributed multiple input multiple output ( MIMO) multi-hop networks. Based on an antenna selection criterion within each virtual antenna array (VAA), the end-to-end (e2e) BER of the multi-hop system can be further reduced. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms other recently proposed network coding schemes with slightly increased complexity.

In this paper, we propose a spatial multi-user physical layer network coding (SM-PNC) scheme by jointly utilizing PNC and beamforming techniques in a multi-user one relay communication system. The relay is equipped with multiple antennas and each user node is only equipped with a single antenna. The two way relay transmission consists of two phases. In multiple access phase, the summation and difference of the user data are combined with log likelihood ratio combination, which has a superior robustness to the traditional separation detection under any channel condition;In broadcast phase, optimal adaptive select-group broadcasting scheme is proposed, which can efficiently overcome the problem of near interference in beamforming. Simulation results validate the ability of the proposed algorithms.
