We present implementation of phase modulated polarization coding by polarizing sagnac interferometers. At four different low input voltages of the phase modulator, coder encodes pulse into four different polarization states, 45 degrees, 135 degrees linearly polarized or right, left circle polarized, while the decoder serves as the complementary polarizers. The mean visibility of the system is tested at 94.31%.

Most of the matched filtering techniques that have been used for pattern recognition have manipulated amplitude and phase information. Light, however, has another principal type of information that has not yet been used for pattern recognition. mie propose a matched filtering technique which manipulates the polarization of light and shows the merits of using polarization information. The amplitude transmittance of input images is coded into the two-dimensional orientation distribution of linearly polarized light. A polarization spatial filter, which can change the light polarization two-dimensionally, is designed by considering the polarization distribution of the Fourier transform of an image to be detected which is polarization-coded. The proposed technique shows a better capacity to discriminate gray-scale images than do the conventional matched altering techniques.

In this paper, a ring chipless tag insensitive to the incident wave angle is proposed. The tag adopts the patch type frequency selective surface structure, the surface of the dielectric substrate is composed of three groups of rings. By designing the coding frequency band as the staggered arcs, designing the radius and radian of them, in addition extracting and processing the dual polarization Radar Cross Section(RCS), the frequency domain and polarization coding are realized. Changing the incident angle of the plane wave to the tag, due to the good symmetry of the tag, the shift of the RCS absorption extreme frequency point of the tag is small, which improves the feasibility of tag coding.

The method is reported better capability to discriminate gray-level images. It has been formerly reported that we have implemented the polarization coding and polarization spatial filter using liquid crystal spatial light modulators with phase modulation and optical rotatory power. In recent years the use of bacteriorhodopsin (BR) as a holographic recording material has been studied intensively. BR films are sensitive to polarization because the BR is the photoinduced anisotropic material. In this paper, we propose the possibility of bacteriorhodopsin films for polarization spatial filter and investigate simplification of pattern detection system with polarization information.

In this paper, a polarization-coding scheme for subcarrier multiplexing quantum key distribution (SCM-QKD) is proposed, in which the overall QKD can be substantially increased by relying on parallel sideband channels. The polarization state of each sideband can be randomly and independently synthesized by controlling the phase difference of subcarriers. We derive the mathematical formulas of quantum bit error rate (QBER). Both the theoretical analysis and the numerical results show that an efficient implementation of BB84 protocol is feasible. By the proposed polarization coding in a parallel QKD system, without relying on dispersion compensation, a 6% performance gain in terms of correct bit rate over the conventional BB84 protocol (i.e., without polarization coding) is obtained. More importantly, the proposed polarization-coding-aided SCM-QKD can help achieve a long-distance QKD with a low QBER.

A SO(3) transformer of a three-plate polarizer is adopted to rapidly achieve the transformation of the polarized state. The polarization coding based on Stokes components S-2 and S-3 is analyzed and demonstrated. Tabu search algorithm is used to accelerate the transformation of the polarized state by utilizing Mueller matrix roots decomposition to decompose the SO(3) matrix, and substituting first order Taylor series approximations for the trigonometric functions in the SO(3) matrix. The results show that bias voltage is less than 120 V in the coding zone. The search speed of our algorithm is faster than the one without first order Taylor series approximations by 4 times.

And the influence of the interferometers to the polarization state is analyzed. Quantum bit error rate of polarization coding caused by birefringent and coordinate system difference between incident light and the fast and slow axes in fiber interferometer is simulated.
