Fingerprinting is the prevailing positioning method for location based service (LBS) and indoor positioning applications when compared with other methods such as cell of origin (CoO) and trilateration. It is especially more suitable for complicated indoor environments. However, higher positioning accuracy is still expected for it to match the capabilities of other mature techniques such as GPS. This paper presents a new algorithm for improving the positioning accuracy of the Nearest Neighbour (NN) algorithm from a Wi-Fi-based fingerprinting method. The new algorithm initially used the NN algorithm to identify the initial position estimate of the user being tracked. Then two distance correction values in two roughly perpendicular directions were calculated by the path loss model based on the two signal strength indicator (RSSI) values observed. The errors from the path loss model were eliminated through differencing two calculated distances which were derived from a similar environment. The new algorithm was tested and the results evaluated against that of the NN algorithm. The preliminary results from 24 test points showed that the positioning accuracy of the new approach has improved consistently and the root mean square accuracy improved to 3.4 m from 3.8 m with the NN algorithm.

Pseudolites are ground-based transmitters that send global navigation satellite system like signals, such as GPS, GLONASS, or Galileo. As an independent system for indoor positioning, pseudolites technique can be explored for a wide range of positioning and navigation application where the signal of satellite GNSS can't be received. However, with indoor environment, the positioning method of pseudolite navigation system is not entirely same as GNSS, and there are some challenging issues in research and system design. In this paper, a signal difference carrier phase measurement system with pseudolites is design. Furthermore, two major problems are studied that they are multipath error and linear errors.

With the development of social intelligence and information, it is of more and more great significance in recognizing traffic patterns automatically. Traffic patterns recognition, refers to identifying the user's currently traffic pattern, which can be widely used in the transportation planning, location based services, social networks and many other fields. With the development and popularization of smart terminals, mobile phones have more and more powerful perception, computation, storage and communication abilities, making recognize user traffic patterns with the mobile phones a hot topic of current research. This paper firstly introduces the current research situation of the traffic patterns recognition. Then the positioning algorithms and classification algorithms are presented, and appropriate algorithms are selected for our systems. Based on the selected algorithms, the traffic patterns recognition system is developed with smart mobile phones, which has three main functions: sustaining traffic patterns recognition, record the current traffic information and view the history traffic locus.

One conventional technique for source localization is to utilize the time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) measurements of a signal received at spatially separated sensors. A simple TDOA-based location algorithm that combines the advantages of two efficient positioning methods is developed. It is demonstrated that the proposed approach can give optimum performance in geolocation via satellites at different noise conditions.

Research on improved localization algorithms RSSI-based in wireless sensor networks

The localization problem is a key supporting technology in wireless sensor network (WSN). The performance of commonly used positioning algorithms in WSN in terms of node density, beacon node ratio and different terrain is firstly analyzed and compared in this paper. The analysis shows that the magnitude of the positioning error of the trilateration method based on the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) ranging technology is 10(-15), which is far lower than other positioning algorithms, but the node proportion that cannot be located is 20%-50% or so, which is much higher than other algorithms. Therefore, an improved trilateration positioning method based on RSSI ranging (ITRSS) is proposed, that is, the unknown nodes that have been located is used as new beacon nodes to locate other unknown nodes. MATLAB simulation shows that the positioning error of the proposed ITRSS method is only reduced by an order of magnitude, moreover, the proportion of nodes that cannot be located is reduced to about 1%, which is only some remote individual node out of the communication range in the area. The Zigbee network established by the CC2530 chip is used for preliminary experimental verification. The experimental results show that the nodes that could not be located at first can be located, and the positioning error does not exceed the set threshold of 3 m. Thus shows the proposed ITRSS method is of feasibility and effectiveness, which help to improve the positioning capability of the entire WSN network.

UWB-Based Indoor Localization: How to Optimally Design the Operating Setup?

Localizing objects in indoor environments with anchor-based systems poses several challenges to be faced. The main one is the design phase. What is the minimum number of anchors to be adopted? What is the optimal placement of the anchors in the operating domain? These are typical issues that need to be solved in this stage. Such issue is generally addressed by several experimental tests, imposing high costs both in the required large amounts of time and in the use of devices. In addition, sometimes the experiments will not warrant to identify the optimal design solution. In this work, a black-box design tool is proposed, able to manage different environments, in terms of domain size, maximum number of available anchors, device metrological features, and target performance. Such an approach, to be effective, needs a preliminary validation versus experimental results to make the future performance predictions reliable and avoid unexpected localization accuracy degradation. For this reason, the presented work adopts a side-by-side development, by evaluating results' compatibility, in static and dynamic contexts, before addressing further and more complex analyses relying on the design tool only. Such a comparison proves the goodness of the developed design tool, and the outcomes allow an accurate localization system design by finding anchors' placement solutions with the minimum computational burden.

In this work, we present a mean square estimation (MSE) based algorithm to calculate the position of a scintillation event within the crystal of a gamma camera dedicated to single photon imaging applications. The performances analysis takes into account pixilated and continuous shape configuration crystals, coupled to an Hamamatsu H8500C multi-anodes PMT (MA-PMT). The readout electronics used for readout has 64-independent channels each reading simultaneously the 64 anodes of the MA-PMT. An array of Nal(TI) scintillation crystal with 2.0 mm pitch, one of CsI(TI) with 1.6 mm pitch and one of YAP with 2.0 mm pixel size are taken into account. In addition, a continuous LaBr3(Ce) crystal coupled to an Hamamatsu H8500C-Mod8 MA-PMT equipped with a super-bialkali photocathode (38% QE at 380 nm) was analyzed. Position linearity and spatial resolution analyzed with collimated (for continuous crystal) and uncollimated (for pixilated crystal) Co-57 radioactive source and the scintillation points are calculated both with MSE and with a standard center of gravity (COG) algorithm. The MSE algorithm improves spatial resolution and expands the useful field of view (UFOV) of the gamma camera that nearly reaches the size of the photocathode area thus showing a great advantage with respect to the CoG algorithm. In this work we study the effects on the spatial resolution when depth of interaction (001) information is included in the parameterization of the line of response (LOR) for a small animal positron emission tomography (PET) system. One of the most important degrading factors for PET is the parallax error introduced in systems that do not provide DOI information of the recorded gamma-rays. Our group has designed a simple and inexpensive method for DOI determination in continuous scintillation crystals. This method is based, on one hand, in the correlation between the scintillation light distribution width in monolithic crystals and the DOI, and, on the other hand, on a small modification of the widely applied charge dividing circuits (CDR). In this work we present a new system calibration that includes the DOI information, and also the development of the correction equations that relates the LOR without and with DOI information. We report the results obtained for different measurements along the transaxial field of view (FOV) and the image quality enhancement achieved specially at the edge of the FOV. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. Construction of Probability Graph Optimization Model on Basis of Localization algorithm

Accurate positioning is crucial in fields such as indoor positioning, autonomous driving, and robot navigation. However, traditional base station positioning algorithms are often affected by factors such as sensor errors, environmental noise, and uncertainty, resulting in certain errors in the positioning results. The article constructed a probability graph model using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) by using position estimation results as variables. In this model, each position estimation result was represented as a node, and the dependency relationship between positions was represented as an edge. This article observed sensor data and uses Bayesian inference methods to update the probability distribution of each node. The experimental results showed that compared to traditional base station positioning algorithms, the probability graph optimization model based on radio frequency identification can significantly improve the accuracy and reliability of positioning. The highest values for both reached 0.989 and 0.95, respectively. This model has significant advantages in positioning tasks and provides an effective solution for practical applications.

Research on the Visualization of Electromagnetic Environment in Nuclear Power Plants

The equipment and cables of the various plants of Nuclear Power Plant are complex, which greatly improves the possibility of electrical equipment being subjected to electromagnetic interference, and electromagnetic interference is mainly reflected in the interference of digital, pointer-type instrumented systems and automatic control systems, resulting in false alarms and electromagnetic compatibility failures. In order to solve such faults, the project team conducted field tests in and developed a set of electromagnetic environment visualization system based on image recognition algorithm, including image recognition, image processing, electromagnetic signal monitoring, etc., to visually display the electromagnetic environment in key areas of the plant and sort out a complete test and monitoring process.
