With the continuous updates, iterations, and promotion of Bluetooth standard specifications, Bluetooth has filled many gaps in existing indoor positioning technologies with its comprehensive technical specifications, rich application ecosystem, and a series of advantages such as low power consumption and low cost in hardware. Especially after the introduction of ADA/AOD direction finding technology in the Bluetooth 5.1 protocol specification, Bluetooth positioning can achieve high accuracy at the sub-meter level. Therefore, Bluetooth-based indoor positioning has become a current research hotspot and an important future development trend. However, there is currently relatively limited research and application of positioning algorithms and positioning systems based on Bluetooth, and there is no standardized set of positioning algorithms and positioning systems. Therefore, this paper proposes research and design on Bluetooth AOA positioning algorithm and Bluetooth AOA indoor positioning system. Through testing in actual indoor scenarios, the algorithm has been validated to achieve sub-meter positioning accuracy, and the entire positioning system has successfully completed the entire process from deployment to application demonstration. © 2023 IEEE.

The success of the Global positioning System (GPS) makes the demand for location-based services increase rapidly. However, in the indoor environment, since the reception of the satellite signal is disrupted severely, the accuracy of GPS positioning can not meet the requirements. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology with the advantages of non-contact, non-visibility, low cost and high positioning accuracy, begins to get more and more attention and becomes the most suitable indoor positioning technology. RFID location is a technique which is based on signal strength positioning, using the received signal strength indication (Received Signal Strength Indicator,RSSI) to determine the position of the object. In recent years, the indoor positioning technology has made great progress, especially on the verity of the localization algorithm. In this paper, we will briefly describe the basic principles of RFID, then we introduce the algorithms of existing indoor RFID positioning system. Finally, we analyze their strengths and weaknesses.

RFID is an automatic identification technology that enables tracking of people and objects. Both identity and location are generally key information for indoor services. An obvious and interesting method to obtain these two types of data is to localize RFID tags attached to devices or objects or carried by people. However, signals in indoor environments are generally harshly impaired and tags have very limited capabilities which pose many challenges for positioning them. In this work, we propose a classification and survey the current state-of-art of RFID localization by first presenting this technology and positioning principles. Then, we explain and classify RFID localization techniques. Finally, we discuss future trends in this domain.

Multipath Suppressing Method Based on Pseudorange Model Using Modified Teaching-Learning Based Optimization algorithm

Satellites based positioning has been widely applied to many areas in our daily lives and thus become indispensable, which also leads to increasing demand for high-positioning accuracy. In some complex environments(such as dense urban, valley), multipath interference is one of the main error sources deteriorating positioning accuracy, and it is difficult to eliminate via differential techniques due to its uncertainty of occurrence and irrelevance in different instants. To address this problem,we propose a positioning method for global navigation satellite systems(GNSS) by adopting a modified teachinglearning based optimization(TLBO) algorithm after the positioning problem is formulated as an optimization problem. Experiments are conducted by using actual satellite data. The results show that the proposed positioning algorithm outperforms other algorithms, such as particle swarm optimization based positioning algorithm,differential evolution based positioning algorithm, variable projection method, and TLBO algorithm, in terms of accuracy and stability.

Vehicle Localization and Velocity Estimation Based on Mobile Phone Sensing

In recent years, smart devices have become ubiquitous. Many of these devices are equipped with global positioning system (GPS), Wi-Fi, and other sensors. With their high mobility, the idea of mobile devices as probes has been attracting more and more attention. Mobility and flexibility offered by smart mobile devices are what traditional fixed sensors lack. However, mobile devices' power supplies are quite limited. Although GPS is accurate, its high power consumption somewhat limits its accessibility and sustainability. In contrast, Wi-Fi is less power hungry, but at the same time, less accurate. For the sake of sustainability, by adopting Wi-Fi as an alternative to GPS, longer operation is attainable at the cost of losing some degree of accuracy. In this paper, a Wi-Fi-based algorithm based on log-normal probability distribution of distances with respect to received signal strength is proposed. It is suitable for an outdoor environment, where Wi-Fi access points (APs) are abundant. Simulations are conducted over known AP locations, and results show that the proposed algorithm can save, on average, as much as 35% more battery power than GPS does. The average localization error is similar to 18 m, and the average velocity estimation error is similar to 25%.

Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Vision Guided Docking Experiments Based on L-Shaped Light Array

In order to realize recovery of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), the L-shaped light array installed at the bottom of the fork-carrying-pole docking device is designed, and the visual positioning algorithm based on the L-shaped light array is proposed. The L-shaped light array is identified by a camera installed on the abdomen of the AUV, the relative position deviation from the AUV and the light array is calculated, and the AUV is docked according to the obtained positional deviation. The monocular four-degree-of-freedom positioning algorithm for AUV solves the problem of missing part of the target light source. Judging the heading angle is improved when the AUV has a longitudinal inclination (heeling angle). The docking experiment of AUV recovery is carried out to verify the feasibility of the L-shaped light array as visual guidance and the stability of the positioning algorithm.

Localization algorithm of wireless sensor network based on matrix reconstruction

In view of the situation that the sensor network is applied to the complex environment, the connectivity is low, the ranging information is limited, and the ranging data has noise, this paper propose the positioning algorithm based on the addition of the generalized Lagrange matrix. Based on the low-rank characteristics of the distance matrix between the nodes of the sensor network, the distance recovery problem under partial sampling information is modeled as the matrix completion problem under Gaussian noise. The unmeasured distance information can be inferred through matrix filling and the noise and anomaly caused by the external environment can be filtered at the same time, which reduces the influence of environmental noise on the positioning and improves the positioning stability and accuracy.

Performance comparisons of continuous miniature crystal element (cMiCE) detectors

In this paper, we investigated the performance characteristics of continuous miniature crystal element (cMiCE) detectors. Versions with a 25 mm by 25 mm by 4 mm-thick LSO crystal and with a 50 mm by 50 mm by 8 mm-thick LYSO crystal were evaluated. Both detectors utilize a 64-channel flat panel photomultiplier tube (PMT). The intrinsic spatial resolution for the detectors was evaluated using Anger (i.e., simple centroid) positioning and a statistics based positioning (SBP) algorithm. We also compared the intrinsic spatial resolution for the 8-mm-thick LYSO crystal using different reflective materials (e.g., TFE Teflon, white paint, and a polymer mirror film) applied on the entrance surface of the crystal. The average energy resolution was 20% for the 4-mm-thick LSO crystal and ranged from 16% to 21%, depending upon reflective material, for the 8-mm-thick LYSO crystal. The average intrinsic spatial resolution for the 4-mm-thick crystal was 1.8-mm full width at half maximum (FWHM) for Anger positioning to within 3 mm of the crystal's edge and 1.14-mm FWHM for SBP to within 2 mm of the edge. The average intrinsic spatial resolution for the 8-mm-thick crystal was 2.2-mm FWHM for Anger positioning to within 8 mm of the crystal's edge and 1.3- to 1.5-mm FWHM (depending on reflective material used) for SBP to within 2 mm of the edge. Intrinsic spatial resolution is reported without correcting for point source size. The point spot flux had a FWHM of about 0.52 mm. The SBP algorithm resulted in significant improvement in intrinsic spatial resolution, linearity of positioning result, and effective field of view (FOV) for our cMiCE detector.

Development of a Monte Carlo simulation for APO-based PET detectors using a continuous scintillating crystal

We are currently developing a multilayer avalanche photodiode (APD)-based detector for use in positron emission tomography (PET), which utilizes thin continuous crystals. In this paper, we developed a Monte Carlo-based simulation to aid in the design of such detectors. We measured the performance of a detector comprising a single thin continuous crystal (3.1 mm x 9.5 mm, x 9.5 mm) of lutetium yttrium ortho-silicate (LYSO) and an APD array (4 x 4) elements;each element 1.6 mm(2) and on a 2.3 mm pitch. We showed that a spatial resolution of better than 2.12 mm is achievable throughout the crystal provided that we adopt a Statistics Based positioning (SBP) algorithm. We then used Monte Carlo simulation to model the behavior of the detector. The accuracy of the Monte Carlo simulation was verified by comparing measured and simulated parent datasets (PDS) for the SBP algorithm. These datasets consisted of data for point sources at 49 positions uniformly distributed over the detector area. We also calculated the noise in the detector circuit and verified this value by measurement. The noise value was included in the simulation. We show that the performance of the simulation closely matches the measured performance. The simulations were extended to investigate the effect of different noise levels on positioning accuracy. This paper showed that if modest improvements could be made in the circuit noise then positioning accuracy would be greatly improved. In summary, we have developed a model that can be used to simulate the performance of a variety of APD-based continuous crystal PET detectors.

Accurate and simple source localization using differential received signal strength

Locating an unknown-position source using received signal strength (RSS) measurements in an accurate and low-complexity manner is addressed in this paper. Given that the source transmit power is unknown, we employ the differential RSS information to devise two computationally attractive localization methods based on the weighted least squares (WLS) approach. The main ingredients in the first algorithm development are to obtain the unbiased estimates of the squared ranges and introduce an extra variable. The second method improves the first version by implicitly exploiting the relationship between the extra variable and source location through a second WLS step. The performance of the two estimators is analyzed in the presence of zero-mean white Gaussian disturbances. Numerical examples are also included to evaluate their localization accuracy by comparing with the maximum likelihood approach and Cramer-Rao lower bound. (C) 2013 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
